[Jake's POV]
The Golden Koi penthouse smelled like coffee and clean glass at 8 AM.
Sunlight was coming in hard through the panoramic windows. It cut across the marble dining table and made the three tablets in front of me glare.
Downtown Macau was quiet. That was wrong.
There should have been sirens. There should have been chatter on the police scanners. There should have been at least one report of a street fight now that two syndicates had collapsed overnight.
There was nothing.
Li stood by the window. Black silk blouse. Arms crossed. She hadn't gone to bed. The dark under her eyes gave her away.
I was still in yesterday's suit. The jacket was off. Sleeves rolled up.
In front of me: Nia's merged reports.
Column 1: Golden Koi street revenue from the docks and transit yards.
Column 2: Vivian Chau's Jade Palace casino laundering, now tripled with the new foot traffic.
