The arena had become an endless storm of magic, beasts, and treacherous terrain. Mist twisted into ghostly shapes, platforms shifted without warning, and shadows seemed to move of their own accord.
Every zone now overlapped: the shadow forest merged with the storm canyon, lava flows licked the icy islands, and the mirror corridors bled into the swamp. Students could no longer rely solely on their personal skills—they had to adapt quickly to survive together.
Third Fatality — Rylan Cade
Rylan, a skilled illusionist, had been attempting to guide a group across a crumbling ice bridge in Mira's wind zone. His illusions masked the dangerous cracks, giving the others confidence to cross.
Suddenly, the wind shifted violently. His illusions flickered and shattered as a Thunder Serpent lunged from the molten lava below, its fangs snapping just inches from him. Rylan lost balance, his illusions failing entirely.
He fell through the ice bridge, clawing at the mist, trying to hold on. A jagged shard of frozen rock impaled his side as he tumbled into the abyss. Students nearby could only watch, frozen in horror, as his screams faded into the swirling mist.
Lyra's eyes widened. Another one… we have to be faster. We have to survive.
Lyra Nocturne
Lyra darted between roots and shadow wolves, protecting Elara and Mira. One massive Nightmare Stag charged directly at them. Lyra swung her chains, wrapping the beast's legs, yanking it off balance but a second stag appeared from the mist, horns glowing.
She leapt onto a branch that twisted violently beneath her, landing in a crouch, her blade humming with energy. Chains lashed out again, slicing through shadows and beast alike. Her breath came in harsh bursts, heart hammering. We can survive this. We have to.
Mira Veylin
Mira's platforms cracked under the combined assault of wind, fire, and ice. One ice serpent lunged toward Kael, who barely blocked it. Mira sent a spiral of wind to knock it away, but her foot slipped on the melting ice. She barely regained balance, sending a gust that lifted debris and molten rock safely away from nearby students.
Every step is life or death… precision… timing… control…
Kael Veythorn
Kael's shadow labyrinth had grown dangerous. Tendrils twisted toward the Misted Lava zone. He sliced and bound with shadow blades, protecting Lyra and Elara while analyzing the adaptive behavior of the beasts.
A shadow wolf lunged from the fog. Kael struck midair, chains lashing out, binding it before it could reach him. He felt his aura expand, shadows intertwining with his will, sensing danger before it fully materialized.
The arena is learning. But so am I.
Elara Moonshade
Elara's swamp grew treacherous. Shadow reeds whipped violently, water bubbled with unseen creatures, and mist obscured her path. A tentacle-like vine lashed, striking her chains and yanking her toward a pool of black water.
Her shadow blade extended farther than before, slicing the vine and anchoring her to a solid tree root. She felt a surge of control, her magic responding instinctively to the danger. I will not die here.
