Maya's POV
They barely made it out of the collapsing chamber alive.
Kaden pulled her through the disintegrating passage as concrete fell around them. They ran up the hidden stairs two at a time. The entire tower was shaking.
When they burst into the war room, soldiers scattered. The alarms were still blaring. The system was still failing.
And Maya turned on Kaden with fury so intense it made his soldiers take a step back.
"You should have told me," she said, her voice deadly calm.
"I did just now."
"After you compromised me," Maya snapped. "I'm entangled with you now. If you're being tested, then so am I. You used me without my knowledge."
"That's not what happened."
"Then what did happen?" Maya's voice cracked. "Walk me through it, Kaden. You found out you were a Sovereign candidate. You found out they were testing you. And you decided what? That I couldn't handle the truth? That I was too weak to know?"
Kaden's expression broke.
