My mother raised the gun again.
Daniel struggled harder against the ropes.
"Run!" he shouted.
My legs refused to move.
Fear froze me.
Then suddenly Daniel did something unexpected.
He threw his chair sideways.
It crashed into her arm.
The gun fired again.
A loud sound filled the warehouse.
For a second everything stopped.
Then Daniel collapsed.
Blood spreading.
My heart stopped.
"Daniel!"
He looked at me weakly.
"I guess… this is my apology."
My hands shook.
"No… no…"
His breathing slowed.

He stopped moving.
