Police arrived fast.

"Is he alive?" I asked immediately.
The officer hesitated.
"He's injured."
Relief and fear collided inside me.
"Where is he?"
"At the hospital."
The drive there felt endless.
When we arrived, Daniel was conscious.
But badly hurt.
Bandage around his head.
Arm in a sling.
The doctor said he was lucky.
Lucky.
But Daniel grabbed my wrist urgently.
"He planned it."
My chest tightened.
"The crash?"
Daniel nodded slowly.
"He wanted to slow us down."
"Us?"
His expression turned dark.
"While he does something else."
A cold realization spread through me.
Victor never does anything randomly.
Which meant while we were distracted here…
