Chapter 4 - Chapter 4:The First Decision

Once you start seeing lies…

You can't unsee them.

I noticed everything now.

Daniel smiling at messages.

Vanessa avoiding direct eye contact.

The way conversations stopped when I entered rooms.

Before, I would have cried.

Now I observed.

That was my first change.

Saturday evening Vanessa came over again.

Like nothing was wrong.

Like she wasn't destroying my life.

We ordered food and watched a movie.

Daniel sat between us.

Too comfortable.

Too relaxed.

Halfway through the movie Vanessa laughed and touched his arm.

Lightly.

But her hand stayed there.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three.

Daniel didn't move.

My stomach tightened.

But I smiled.

Because now I understood something important.

Never show your enemy what you know.

Later that night, after she left, I checked Daniel's phone again.

This time I didn't hesitate.

Most messages were deleted.

But he wasn't careful enough.

Cloud backup.

Amateurs always forget cloud backup.

I recovered part of the conversation.

One message from Vanessa froze me.

"I wish things were different."

Daniel replied:

"Me too."

No more doubt.

No more denial.

This was real.

I expected myself to cry.

Instead I felt… calm.

Strangely calm.

Like something inside me had gone quiet.

"Good," the whisper said.

I didn't react this time.

I was starting to get used to it.

"Pain makes you stronger."

That scared me more than the betrayal.

Because a small part of me agreed.

That night I wrote something in my notebook.

Three rules.

Rule 1: Don't confront without proof.

Rule 2: Don't show pain.

Rule 3: Don't trust anyone again.

I stared at the rules for a long time.

Then added one more.

Rule 4: If they want war… I will finish it.

As I closed the notebook, the room felt colder.

The lamp flickered once.

My shadow stretched toward the wall.

Almost like it approved.

"Finally," it whispered.

For the first time since this started…

I wasn't just reacting anymore.

I was preparing.

And Daniel and Vanessa had no idea…

Their victim had just become their biggest problem.
