The interview began at exactly seven o'clock. Adrian watched from his office without moving; the television hung on the wall across from his desk. The volume was low, but every word reached him with perfect clarity.
Evelyn sat beneath bright studio lights with calm confidence; she wore a dark suit and very little jewellery, and her expression revealed nothing.
The host smiled politely.
"Ms. Crane, thank you for agreeing to speak with us."
"Thank you for inviting me," Evelyn replied.
The host folded his notes.
"There has been widespread speculation about your professional relationship with Adrian Mercer and his company. What would you like the public to understand?"
Evelyn did not answer immediately. She looked toward the camera instead.
