~LYRA'S POV~
I stood in the grand hall of the Silverclaw Pack, feeling like an imposter in the elegant gown that had replaced my tattered servant's dress.
The fabric was very soft, softer than anything I'd ever worn, but it couldn't calm the storm of nerves in my chest.
"Are you ready?" Ryland asked, his hand gently touching my elbow.
"I don't think I'll ever be ready for this," I whispered, looking out at the sea of faces filling the hall.
Pack members from Silverclaw mixed with visiting delegations from other territories, all here for what Ryland had called a "significant announcement."
"Remember what I told you," Ryland said quietly. "You belong here. You belong with me."
I nodded, though my hands were shaking. After everything I'd been through, the idea that someone actually wanted me as their mate still felt like a dream I might wake up from at any moment.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Ryland's voice rang out across the hall. "Thank you all for coming tonight. I have called this gathering to share news that will shape the future of our pack."
The conversations died down, all eyes turning toward us. I spotted familiar faces in the crowd, including Kael, who sat with a delegation from Shadowfang.
"It is my honour," Ryland continued, his voice filled with pride, "to introduce Lyra as my mate, my Luna, and the future mother of Silverclaw's heirs."
Gasps rippled through the crowd like stones thrown into still water. Some faces showed surprise, others curiosity, but I was relieved to see none of the cruel mockery I'd grown accustomed to.
"Luna Lyra," someone called out from the crowd, and others began to echo the title.
My heart swelled with something I'd never felt before. For the first time in my life, people were looking at me with respect instead of disgust.
But before I could fully process the moment, the hall's massive doors burst open with a crash that made everyone turn.
A man strode in, his presence commanding immediate attention. He was tall and broad-shouldered, with dark hair and eyes that seemed to burn with an inner fire. Behind him followed a group of fierce-looking werewolves, all bearing the insignia of a pack I didn't recognize.
"I'm sorry to interrupt," the stranger said, "but there's been a mistake."
Ryland stepped forward, his body tense. "Alpha Eren. Thought you said you won't be able to make it."
So this was Alpha Eren of the Bloodfang Pack. I'd heard whispers about him, stories of his ruthlessness in battle, his pack's reputation for never backing down from a fight.
"So I thought until…," Eren replied, his fierce gaze locking onto me, "when it concerns what's mine."
"Yours?" Ryland's voice dropped dangerously low.
"I think you're mistaken."
"Am I?" Eren took a step closer, and I felt it, that same electric pull I'd experienced with Ryland, but different. Wilder. More primal.
"Tell me, little wolf, do you feel it?"
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came. How was this possible? How could I have bonds with two different Alphas?
"She belongs to me," Eren declared, his voice growing stronger. "The mate bond doesn't lie. I can feel it calling to me, just as she can feel it calling to her."
"That's impossible," Ryland snarled, moving protectively in front of me.
"The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes."
"No," came another voice from across the hall, cold and familiar. "She doesn't."
My blood turned to ice as Kael rose from his seat, his dark eyes fixed on me with an intensity that made my skin crawl.
"Which is why," he continued, walking toward us with predatory grace.
"Lyra belongs to me. She was always mine."
"You rejected her!" Ryland snapped. "You threw her away like garbage!"
"A momentary lapse in judgment," Kael said smoothly. "But I'm here to correct that mistake. Lyra, come here."
"No," I whispered, the word barely audible.
"What did you say?" Kael's voice turned dangerous.
"I said no." My voice grew stronger, surprising even myself. "I'm not your possession to reclaim when it suits you."
Pack members began whispering, taking sides, some calling for order while others seemed eager for a fight. The air thickened with tension as three of the most powerful Alphas in the region faced off over me.
"Enough!" Eren roared, and his voice was so commanding that the hall fell silent.
"There's only one way to settle this."
"A challenge," Kael agreed, his hand moving to the blade at his side. "Winner takes the girl."
"Stop it!" I finally found my voice, stepping forward despite my trembling legs.
"Stop talking about me like I'm a prize to be won!"
All three Alphas turned to look at me, and in that moment, something strange began to happen. Deep inside my chest, something stirred, a feeling I'd never experienced before, wild and powerful and completely foreign.
"I choose my own fate," I continued, my voice growing steadier with each word. "And I choose…"
But before I could finish, pain shot through my body. I doubled over, gasping, as something inside me seemed to claw its way toward the surface.
"Lyra!" Ryland reached for me, but I stumbled backward, my vision blurring.
"What's happening to her?" Eren demanded.
"I don't know," Ryland replied, his voice tight with concern.
The pain intensified, spreading through my limbs like fire. I felt my bones shifting, my muscles stretching, my very essence changing in ways I couldn't understand.
"Her wolf," someone gasped from the crowd.
"Her wolf is awakening!"
"Impossible," Kael breathed. "She's human."
But even as he spoke, I could feel it, a presence inside me that had been sleeping for eighteen years, finally stirring to life. The wolf I'd been told I'd never have was fighting to break free.
"Moon Goddess," I whispered, falling to my knees as the transformation began in earnest.
"What's happening to me?"
"Everyone stand back!" Ryland commanded, but his voice seemed to come from very far away.
The hall was spinning around me, voices blending together into a cacophony of shock and fear.
Through it all, I could feel the three bonds pulling at me. Ryland's steady strength, Eren's wild passion, and even Kael's dark magnetism that I wanted to reject but couldn't quite shake.
"She's magnificent," Eren said in awe.
"She's mine," Ryland corrected firmly.
"She belongs to Shadowfang," Kael insisted. "She always has."
Their voices faded as my transformation continued, my consciousness splitting between human awareness and something far more primal. For the first time in my life, I felt power.
When the pain finally receded, I found myself on all fours, breathing heavily. But something was wrong. I was still human. Still myself, despite the overwhelming sensation of having a wolf inside me.
"Why didn't she shift?" Kael said.
"The wolf is there," Ryland whispered.
"I can sense it. But it's... contained somehow."
