Chapter 64 - Levitation Charm is the best!

By the time they finished their homework, it was less than twenty minutes until curfew.

Kate cast a Disillusionment Charm on Hermione and hurriedly led her out of the Slytherin Common Room.

It wasn't until they were about to be sent out of the dungeon that Hermione stopped and asked hesitantly, "That was a senior student from a higher year. Is it really okay for you to rashly agree to duel him?"

From the moment she heard their conversation, she had wanted to ask this question.

It was just that all night, she was worried about adding to Kate's psychological burden, so she hadn't dared to ask.

But she had never been good at keeping things to herself, especially regarding Kate, so she finally voiced her concern before they parted ways.

"It's really fine. There are many people in the Common Room on weekends. With other students around, they won't do anything to me."

Kate comforted her in a gentle voice. "Besides, don't you trust my strength? Even if he is a senior student, he can't do anything to me."

Although she said this, Hermione remained worried. "Then... can I come to watch on the weekend?"

"This is an internal Slytherin conflict. If you come, I'm afraid it will cause other complications."

Kate gently scraped her nose, then escorted her out of the dungeon. Only after watching her go up the stairs did she return alone.

"System, what were the extension spells for the Levitation Charm you told me about earlier?"

Upon returning to her dormitory, Kate immediately opened the System to inquire.

She had been too busy during the day and could only check her rewards when she was alone before sleep.

[Opening Levitation Charm Extension Spells...]

[Spell One: Weightless as a Swallow (Allows free flight without a medium)]

[Spell Two: Storm Tornado (Summons a tornado)]

[Spell Three: Phantom Clone (Creates light and shadow clones)]

Kate: ???

You're telling me these are all extended from the Levitation Charm?

"System," she asked with difficulty, "I haven't read many books, don't fool me. Are these really spells I can choose?"

The introductory spell of the magical world, known as the first spell for every young wizard—the Levitation Charm—was a basic spell that even the transmigrator seniors basically ignored...

No matter how she looked at it, it didn't seem like an existence that could extend into so many derivative spells.

[The simplicity and ease of learning the Levitation Charm make it one of the most widely applied basic spells in the entire wizarding world.]

[Because of its strong universality, it can extend into specialized spells in different directions. If it were other spells, the choices for extension directions would be greatly discounted.]

[System Tip: If the Host is unlearned, she can read more books.]

"...You could have spared me that last sentence!"

Kate choked so hard she almost couldn't catch her breath. She sat cross-legged directly on the bed and began to seriously analyze these spells.

She had grinded the Levitation Charm to Level 9 to get these extendable specialized spells to appear, and the fields involved in these spells were obviously quite different.

Spell One was an enhanced, upgraded version of the Levitation Charm.

Although she could fly after using Levitation now, she could only float leisurely in the air, completely lacking abilities like aerial maneuvering or dodging.

But Weightless as a Swallow, according to the System's description, would allow her to shoot up from the ground into the sky just like Superman. The acceleration in between would consume Mana.

Spell Two, this was a spell for both offense and defense. It could control air currents of different scales to create tornadoes of various sizes.

This already belonged to the category of natural disaster-level spells.

And Spell Three—this sounded very much like Naruto's Shadow Clone—created light and shadow clones.

As long as a certain amount of Mana was injected, the created clones could appear corporeally for a certain period.

Most importantly, if she encountered any emergency situation, this spell combined with Apparition would simply be an excellent means of preserving her life!

Compared to her previous hesitation, this time Kate didn't think too much and directly chose Spell Three: Phantom Clone.

The reason was simple: One and Two were replaceable.

As for flight, at worst she could practice more with the broomstick and the Summoning Charm. As for the creation of storms in Two... she wasn't the Dark Lord, so what did she need such a highly lethal spell for?

Moreover, no matter when or where, staying alive was the number one priority!

Now that she had the Phantom Clone, she would learn Apparition later. When the time came, even if Voldemort attacked, she could create a clone and then use Apparition. Would she still fear Avada Kedavra then?

[Host has learned Phantom Clone. Current Level: 1]

[Current number of castable clones: 1]

Is it just one clone at Level 1?

Then theoretically, she could create up to ten clones at once.

Enough, it's enough. As long as she didn't run into the great Hogwarts melee in the final year, there basically wouldn't be any problems.

Kate was relieved now.

In her plan, she just needed to finish grinding her studies, grind Occlumency, finish grinding Occlumency, then grind Phantom Clone, and grind some Emotion Points in between.

If she had spare energy, she could also grind other basic spells to Level 9 and get some extension spells.

Then there was a high probability she could graduate from Hogwarts alive!

It was very simple!

As for the wizard's duel in a few days?

What a joke. Her main defensive targets were the White Dark Lord and the Dark Lord. What did some random senior count for?

She'd just fight casually when the time came; she was tired.

Just as she wanted to test the effect of her Phantom Clone, Kate remembered something else. "System, why haven't I seen you issue me any quests recently?"

Ever since the Sorting Hat Main Quest last time, she hadn't heard the System issue any tasks.

[Currently no Main Quest.]

[Beep! Detected that Host has triggered a wizard's duel. Now issuing Duel Quest!]

[Duel Quest: Defeat the Wizard Leif Wilson. Failure will result in the deduction of arbitrary Attribute Points.]

Kate: ???

Why is there only a punishment and no reward?

[Rewards will be issued after victory. Please treat this seriously, Host.]

Fine. She had intended to just phone it in, but it looked like she had to be serious now.

Another Wilson. Given the British magical community's population of just over ten thousand and Slytherin's traditional preference for pure-blood families...

This Wilson was most likely the brother of that girl who got sent to confinement on the first day of school.

Very good. She bullied the small one, and the big one came.

Winning against a senior student inside the House likely wouldn't be spread externally; they couldn't afford that embarrassment.

What Kate needed to consider now was how to deter other Snake House students while ensuring the opponent lost.

Because of her identity, most people here wouldn't be friendly toward her. So, at least before Voldemort returned, she had to show some strength so they wouldn't dare to provoke her.

"Day after day, what kind of lousy matters are these?"

Kate lay back on the bed with a face full of despair, then suddenly sat up abruptly.

"System, I can't be idle anymore! I have to continue practicing Occlumency and Phantom Clone tonight!"

How to resolve one's worries? Only by grinding madly!
