Chapter 97:
Gwen StacySome universeSome street in New York
"Hey! You guys know what?"
Gwen Stacy stood steadily on the roof of a red Toyota, twirling her dual katanas nimbly in her hands.
"Last week I ran into a guy who could spit fire. Guess what happened? He burned off his own eyebrows! Hahaha!"
Five mutant villains surrounded her in a fan formation, each looking more dumbfounded than the last.
The leading Lizard Man scratched his ear with a claw.
"God, she's even more talkative than the intel said!"
"Watch her blades!"
The female villain in metallic armor warned in a low voice. "S.H.I.E.L.D. files say she's not simple!"
"Whoa! You guys actually read S.H.I.E.L.D. files?"
Gwen Stacy suddenly vanished from the car roof. The next second she appeared behind the female villain, lightly tapping the back of her helmet with the flat of her blade.
"Does that file mention that I hate spoilers the most?"
"Get her!"
The battle erupted instantly.
Gwen Stacy moved through the hail of bullets like she was tap-dancing, still chattering nonstop.
"Seriously, your teamwork is way worse than Thanos' army in Avengers 4! Oh sorry, that's the movie universe, right?"
Her pink dual katanas drew dazzling arcs, precisely flicking away incoming bullets.
A grenade launcher fired straight at her. She actually reached out and caught it, then flung it back like a baseball.
"Yang Jian's serum is really good!"
She hummed a little tune and did a backflip to dodge an energy beam.
"Although it's not as good as Deadpool's healing factor, this hundred-ton arm strength is pretty nice."
At that moment, Gwen Stacy spotted someone trying to sneak up on her.
She vanished from the spot and reappeared behind the sturdiest villain. With one hand she lifted the two-meter-tall brute and smashed him toward his companions.
The concrete road cracked with a huge fissure.
"You guys know what?"
Gwen Stacy squatted beside the fallen villain, pulled out her phone and took a selfie.
"This is a little secret — in Earth-1218, my figures sell better than Spider-Man's!"
One of the villains finally broke: "Can you focus on the fight?!"
"Fine, fine!"
Gwen Stacy pouted, then suddenly turned serious.
Her figure turned into a pink afterimage. Blade light swept over like a blizzard.
A few seconds later, all the villains lay neatly on the ground, tied up like dumplings with their own equipment.
"Done!"
She happily sheathed her dual katanas, then opened a comic page, reached in and pulled out a Polaroid camera.
"Come on, smile! This is going on Twitter!"
Villains: ......
Soon, police sirens approached from afar. Gwen Stacy was already squatting on a streetlamp, flipping through the photos she had just taken.
"Hmm, this composition is nice, but Lizard Bro's expression is too vicious! Yang Jian would love to see this."
Thinking of this, she suddenly looked up at the starry sky. Her eyes behind the pink mask blinked.
"Speaking of which, where is that guy Yang Jian playing in which universe right now?"
As if to answer her, a burst of golden sparks suddenly bloomed beside her out of thin air.
She jerked her head up. Her white eye-pieces behind the pink mask widened dramatically.
"Whoa! New Karma Taj fireworks?"
The sparks spun and expanded into a portal. Yang Jian stepped out casually with his hands in his pockets, a familiar smile on his lips.
"I just arrived and already heard someone talking about me."
He had originally planned to return directly to his own universe, but after thinking about it, he hadn't seen this girl for a while, so he came to check on her.
"Yang Jian!" Gwen Stacy instantly turned into a pink lightning bolt and pounced straight into Yang Jian's arms.
Yang Jian caught her steadily, spun once with her in his arms, then set her down.
"Where have you been running off to all this time?"
Gwen Stacy put her hands on her hips, her white eye-pieces behind the mask exaggeratedly wide.
"I flipped through all the comic books and still couldn't find you!"
Yang Jian smiled and ruffled her hair: "I went to a few universes you haven't drawn yet."
He deliberately lowered his voice. "There are things in there you'd never expect. You'd definitely love them."
"What?!"
Gwen Stacy jumped excitedly in place. "Next time you have to take me with you! I can use my cross-dimensional transporter!"
"We'll see how you perform." Yang Jian raised an eyebrow.
Gwen Stacy immediately perked up and struck several exaggerated superhero poses.
"Look! I've been training seriously this whole time!"
She suddenly did a spin, accidentally kicking the lid off a nearby trash can.
Yang Jian facepalmed, somewhat helpless about her personality: "Alright, alright. Let's find a place to talk slowly."
But after glancing at her, he pointed at her still-wearing costume.
"Are you sure you want to walk the streets like this?"
"Of course!"
Gwen Stacy bounced after Yang Jian. "This is the perfect publicity opportunity!"
She suddenly leaned in mysteriously. "I've been planning an awesome popularity-boosting scheme lately."
Yang Jian raised an eyebrow. A plan? What was she planning now?
The two walked slowly along the street. Gwen Stacy gestured animatedly.
"First, I'm going to open a new Twitter account! Then post uniform maintenance tutorials every week, and do challenge videos with Spider-Man!"
She suddenly lowered her voice. "I'm also planning to add a special emoji pack for myself in the comics!"
Yang Jian listened to her endless stream of plans and showed a helpless smile.
But he didn't interrupt her. He quietly listened to her chatter.
The night wind blew past. Gwen Stacy's voice carried far. In the distance, the lights of police cars cast long shadows behind the two of them.
In this chaotic and wonderful universe, this kind of reunion felt especially warm.
Five minutes later
The two walked into a retro-style coffee shop. Gwen Stacy plopped down on a high stool, her legs swinging happily.
She took off her mask. Her pink hair was messy and tousled. Before she even ordered coffee, she couldn't wait to start talking like a machine gun.
"Not just Spider-Man — villains work too, like Doctor Doom, or other villains."
She tapped rhythms on the tabletop with her fingers as she spoke.
"Then I'll go to Asgard and have Loki teach me some minor magic. How about that?"
Yang Jian leaned back in his chair, looking at the energetic girl in front of him and couldn't help laughing lightly.
"Any more interesting plans?"
Gwen Stacy suddenly paused, bit her straw and thought for a few seconds. Her eyes suddenly lit up.
"I have a super awesome idea!"
She leaned in mysteriously. "We can trick all the Avengers onto a small island."
"And then?" Yang Jian raised an eyebrow. It felt a little familiar.
"Hold the strongest Avengers tournament!"
Gwen Stacy slapped the table excitedly, making the coffee cups clink.
Yang Jian was stunned. He remembered — wasn't this the plot from the comics? Although slightly altered.
"But now that you're joining, we can change it to the Silver Superman Challenge!" Gwen Stacy continued.
Yang Jian couldn't help laughing: "You want me to solo the entire Avengers?"
"No no no!"
Gwen Stacy waved her hands, trying to show how strong she was.
"It's us as a team. The Avengers challenge the two of us!"
She proudly puffed out her chest. "I've injected your serum now. I can lift over a hundred tons!"
She continued describing the plan details animatedly, occasionally grabbing Yang Jian's arm and shaking it a few times, like a little girl eager to share a secret.
Yang Jian watched her radiant expression and suddenly felt that this crazy plan didn't seem so ridiculous after all.
