Chapter 129 - Chapter 129: Return

Namek, or rather, the reborn Namek.

As hundreds of Namekians descended in pillars of light and set foot on their homeland once more, the overwhelming joy of returning home instantly turned into tears streaming down their faces.

The land before them was scarred and battered, yet it was still familiar.

With Frieza's army gone, the planet had finally returned to the peaceful paradise it once was.

Grand Elder Moori stood atop a rocky rise, watching his people cheer and celebrate.

Some even knelt down to kiss the blackened soil beneath their feet.

His heart swelled with emotion.

"We survived..."

"Even in the depths of such despair, we survived."

Turning around, he gazed toward the massive crater that still bore the terrifying scars of battle.

That was where Krillin, Goku, and Piccolo had fought their final battle against Frieza.

"We must never forget this debt."

Though aged and weary, Moori's voice carried unquestionable authority.

"The future generations of Namek must forever remember the three heroes who saved our race."

"Upa!"

A young Namekian warrior stepped forward and bowed respectfully.

"Pass down my orders. Before we rebuild our villages, there is something we must do first."

Moori pointed toward the tallest mountain on the planet.

"We will build a temple there."

"And atop it, we will erect three great statues."

"The one in the center shall be Lord Krillin, the Bald God of War. Through his wisdom and strength, he secured our chance to survive."

"The statue on the left shall be Lord Son Goku, the Golden Warrior who shattered the demon's ambitions."

"And the one on the right shall be our fellow Namekian, Piccolo, who carried the pride and hope of our people."

"Yes, Grand Elder!"

The Namekians erupted into enthusiastic cheers.

Not a single voice objected.

To them, these three were no longer merely benefactors.

They were figures worthy of reverence.

...

Two days later.

Earth, West City.

It was a bright and beautiful afternoon.

Bulma sat beneath a large garden umbrella, enjoying afternoon tea.

Although she held a fashion magazine in her hands, her eyes drifted toward the sky every few seconds.

Launch sat nearby, carefully cleaning her submachine gun.

Aki, the Hydrangea Maiden, was watering the flowers in the garden.

Her gentle and graceful presence seemed to make the blossoms bloom even more brilliantly.

Chi-Chi had brought Gohan along and was chatting with Bulma on the other side of the garden, complaining about how Goku had torn another set of clothes.

Yet the anticipation in her voice was impossible to hide.

Then suddenly...

A familiar presence appeared on the lawn without warning.

A presence so familiar that it sent a tremor through their souls.

There was no roar of a spaceship landing.

Only a faint pop as the air was displaced.

Whoosh!

Three figures appeared out of thin air.

Standing in the center was a shiny bald man wearing the Turtle School gi, a trademark mischievous grin plastered across his face.

The kind of grin that made people want to punch him.

On his left stood Goku, his hair as messy as ever, smiling foolishly.

On his right stood Piccolo, arms crossed and wearing his usual expression of "I'm annoyed, but I'm not saying it."

The air seemed to freeze for a second.

"Hey, everyone's here."

"Did we make it back just in time for lunch?"

Krillin raised a hand and greeted them casually, as if he'd merely stepped out to buy groceries.

"Krillin!!!"

A shrill cry shattered the silence.

The teacup in Bulma's hand slipped and shattered on the ground.

She didn't even bother putting on her shoes.

Barefoot, she sprinted across the lawn like a white cannonball and slammed straight into Krillin's chest.

"Oof!"

Krillin staggered back half a step.

Before he could say anything, a pair of soft arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

"You idiot! You liar!"

"Do you have any idea how worried I was?!"

Bulma cried as she pounded her fists against his chest.

Though it looked like hitting, it felt more like a desperate release of emotion.

Krillin felt her trembling body against his.

The familiar scent of her perfume lingered in the air.

The tension that had remained in his heart since the battle finally melted away.

"Sorry, sorry."

"I made you worry."

Krillin gently patted her back, his eyes filled with affection.

"But look, I came back in one piece."

"Not even a single hair is missing."

He paused.

"Oh, right. Bad example."

"Pfft!"

Bulma burst out laughing through her tears.

Looking up, her rain-soaked face radiated pure happiness.

"You didn't have any hair to begin with!"

Nearby, Chi-Chi rushed forward and threw herself into Goku's arms.

"Goku! You jerk! Why did it take you so long to come back?!"

"Gohan's studies have fallen behind because of you!"

"Haha, Chi-Chi..."

"Everyone's watching."

Goku scratched the back of his head, blushing bright red.

Still, he hugged his wife tightly.

Only Piccolo remained standing by himself.

Watching the two couples openly displaying their affection, his face seemed to grow even greener.

"Hmph. Ridiculous."

Snorting, Piccolo slowly floated into the air, preparing to leave this place overflowing with romance and head for the Lookout.

"Hey, Uncle Piccolo!"

Gohan ran over and grabbed his cape.

"Don't go!"

"Mom made lots of delicious food. Stay and celebrate with us!"

Piccolo looked into Gohan's clear, earnest eyes.

His body stiffened slightly.

After a long pause, he slowly descended back to the ground.

Turning his head away, he muttered,

"Fine."

"I suppose I can stay and eat a little."

Trillin also charged over and wrapped himself around Krillin's leg.

"Dad!"

"You're amazing!"

"Did you punch Frieza so hard he exploded?"

"Of course I did!"

Krillin laughed, lifting his son onto his shoulders.

"Your dad is the strongest bald guy in the universe!"

"Oh, and I brought a gift back for your mom too."

Aki and Launch walked over as well.

Neither was as openly emotional as Bulma, but the joy and affection in their eyes were no less genuine.

For a brief moment, the entire garden was filled with laughter.

The threat of the Emperor of the Universe was gone.

The shadow of death had vanished.

All that remained was the joy of reunion and hope for the future.

Krillin looked at the scene before him, his heart completely at peace.

This was the world he wanted to protect.

This was the reason he had worked so hard to become stronger.

At that moment, a familiar system notification finally echoed in his mind.

It marked the perfect conclusion to the long journey.

Krillin's smile widened as he read the rewards.

"Alright, everyone!"

"Let's go home and eat!"

With a grand wave of his hand, Krillin led everyone inside amid a chorus of cheers.

Sunlight spilled across the lawn, scattering patches of golden light over the grass.

Warm.

Bright.

And full of promise.
