Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Facing Obito for the First Time

"Alright, that's enough."

Watching the Kaguya Clan and the Kirigakure Ninja in the stronghold already clashing, Obito intended to leave with Yagura.

"Aren't you going to continue the bombardment with Tailed Beast Balls?" Zetsu asked.

"No need. The final farewell party is over. Now, I'm preparing to head back and imprison the Three-Tails."

Tailed Beast Sealing must follow a specific order. Since the resource collection and personal grudges here in Kirigakure have been settled, it's time to officially proceed with the implementation of the Infinite Tsukuyomi Plan.

Just as Obito was about to take Yagura away, a beautiful figure suddenly blocked his path.

"Oh? Faster than I expected."

Obito was truly surprised. According to his estimations and arrangements, even if the Hidden Mist Village was full of second-rate trash, they shouldn't have arrived this quickly.

Looking at the Masked Man and the Fourth Mizukage not far from him, Mei Terumī and the others immediately unleashed their prepared Ninjutsu. Meanwhile, a Ninja who seemed skilled in Taijutsu tried to circle behind to break the Genjutsu.

"Water Release: Water Mirror!"

A massive water mirror rose from the ground, instantly blocking all of Mei Terumī's long-charged attacks.

As for the companion who had circled back to break the Genjutsu, he had already vanished to who-knows-where.

Mei Terumī naturally didn't think he had deserted. Although it was only for a split second, she had seen the spiral distortion of space.

[It matches the intelligence, but I didn't expect it to be so fast.]

Biting her lip, now that they were clashing directly, she was basically convinced that Hohzuki Mangetsu's intelligence was true. This meant the matters regarding the Sharingan and Wood Release were likely... "Does Konoha want to start a war?"

Having finished speaking, her hand signs were complete. Boil Release: Skilled Mist Technique began to spread forward.

[This technique is a bit troublesome for me, but only if it can actually drift over.]

Obito ignored her; to him, it was a pointless question. He immediately began to deal with the technique.

Kamui, the technique granted by this Mangekyo, had two obvious weaknesses: first, the user must solidify when absorbing, releasing, or attacking; second, the intangibility only lasts for about five minutes.

Therefore, for a large-scale, continuous move like the Skilled Mist Technique, Obito really had to find a way to counter it.

In the next instant, the storm whipped up by Kamui, combined with Fire Release, overwhelmed the acidic mist with devastating power and charged straight at Mei Terumī.

Facing this move, Mei Terumī was about to use Water Encampment Wall, but a sudden force tackled her to the side.

Boom!

A large hole was blasted into the mountain behind her. If Mei Terumī had tried to take it head-on just now, there wouldn't even be a whole corpse left of her.

"Hiding to the side, ready to break Yagura's Genjutsu at any time, but exposing yourself to save someone? A decent plan, but unfortunately, you were discovered long ago."

Having said that, Obito didn't dodge, letting Nakamura Iku's blade pass right through his body.

Simultaneously, the person who had just tackled Mei Terumī lunged toward the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura.

One person to pin down Obito, one to step forward and break the Genjutsu, while Mei Terumī used her Ninjutsu advantage for long-range support.

In Mei Terumī's mind, Genjutsu ultimately required continuous control; as long as they could pin down Obito, Yagura would naturally be easy to save.

However, the reality was that the Jonin who rushed forward was instantly restrained by Yagura with a Water Prison. Nakamura Iku's blade hit nothing but air, and he was immediately kicked away.

"This is...! The attack passed through?"

Mei Terumī was shocked. If that was the case, pinning down Obito would be impossible without understanding the secret of his technique.

"Use whatever other tricks you have. If you don't hurry, the Hidden Mist will vanish after today."

Obito's pointed words put immense pressure on everyone.

Even without being Sensing Ninjas, they could sense how tragic the battle below was.

To release the Fourth Mizukage from control, basically all the experts in the stronghold were here. With the Great Clam destroyed, how could there be any spare combat power to deal with the Kaguya Clan?

At this moment, Nakamura Iku's gaze grew deeper, his thoughts unknown.

"Not coming? Then I'll come to you."

!

Everyone was startled as the Masked Man took a step and lunged toward Mei Terumī. Although Nakamura Iku reflexively swung his blade midway, it passed right through just like before.

As for the other Jonin, he didn't react at all, only able to turn his head with a murderous gaze to see the outcome in the next second.

"Goodbye."

The somber voice announced the impending victory.

But just as Obito was about to touch Mei Terumī, a shuriken coincidentally flew toward his head.

This fatal attack was thus broken amidst the sound of the shuriken clashing with rock, along with Obito's ability.

"It seems he solidifies when attacking."

Nakamura Iku gripped his blade tighter, glancing toward the direction from which the shuriken had just flown.

"An ambush too? How cautious."

Obito activated his Sharingan and looked in that direction; there was a mass of Chakra nearly twice the size of Kakashi's, radiating pure killing intent toward him!

[It really is him! Should I go all out and gamble with all my trump cards to see if I have a chance?]

The Shadow Clone that had been following Mei Terumī and the others arrived. Suppressing the surging killing intent, it thought calmly, finally concluding that it was absolutely impossible with just the four of them.

Unless someone could break Yagura's Genjutsu right now. With a Kage-level Perfect Jinchuriki, they might surpass Obito in combat power.

But if he fled, it would be virtually impossible for anyone to stop him, given his Space-Time Ninjutsu.

Recalling the scenes of her birth, a sense of regret slowly began to rise as she suppressed her killing intent.

Her current power was still not enough!

[But even if I can't get my revenge here today, I'll make you pay a price!]

As the decision was made, the situation on the field reached a fever pitch.

After understanding how to attack, the remaining three seemed to have reformulated their strategy in a short time.

But knowing how to attack was one thing; being able to utilize that knowledge effectively to counterattack was another.

It could be seen from Obito's earlier dash that, aside from Nakamura Iku reacting and launching an attack, both the other Jonin and Mei Terumī only managed to react without acting. This was a difference in physical capability.

Currently, although Nakamura Iku was the primary attacker and Mei Terumī understood her techniques were a threat to Obito and constantly harassed him with large-scale Ninjutsu, they were still being completely suppressed by Obito.

Moreover, there was another dangerous factor on the field: the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura.

Every now and then, a small Tailed Beast Ball was fired. As the controller, Obito even used his intangible body as bait, repeatedly putting Mei Terumī's trio in life-threatening situations.

The only silver lining was that Yagura's movements were very stiff; it seemed the Genjutsu control indeed had significant limitations.

The battle fell into a stalemate for a time. After all, the three were all Jonin-level, and there was also the secret assistance of someone with Kagura Minds Eye.

Specifically, Amane's presence was quite a headache for Obito.

At this point, he was certain that Amane possessed very strong sensing abilities; whenever he wanted to move against her, she always detected it in advance. This level of sensing almost made Obito think she was Ao.

But if it were Ao with his Byakugan, he should have tried to break Yagura's Genjutsu long ago. Why would he use such a tactic primarily intended to annoy him?

This point was also noticed by Mei Terumī's trio. Unlike Obito, they had some inkling.

The person who had indirectly informed them within the Hidden Mist Village that Yagura was absent.

[It seems she can't break Genjutsu from a distance like Ao can. In that case, we must find a way to cooperate and create an opportunity for someone.]

The identity of the person in the shadows wasn't important right now; as long as she was hostile toward the Masked Man, it was enough.

Mei Terumī made a decisive move, rushing past the protection of Nakamura Iku and the other Jonin, using almost all her Chakra to release a large-scale Boil Release forward!

The two immediately understood Mei Terumī's plan and charged toward Yagura, no longer caring about Obito's next move.

While Amane thought Mei Terumī was bold, she couldn't help but feel a secret admiration and decided to cooperate.

But how could Obito fail to see through such an obvious plan?

[Using a large-scale Boil Release to make me hesitate, then going all out to break Yagura's Genjutsu. Even if I choose to attack regardless of injury, that person in the shadows would intervene at the same time.]

Simple, but effective.

Provided that Obito's only teammate was the controlled Yagura.

In the next second, all four were attacked simultaneously. White Spores began to spread over their bodies, continuously absorbing Chakra at a rapid pace, before the Spores transformed into white humanoids.

"Damn it! What is this now?"

Having nearly exhausted her Chakra, Mei Terumī appeared especially pained. Seeing all her teammates caught, a look of despondency appeared on her face.

"It's been fun. Goodbye then."

Wooden stakes quickly emerged from Obito's hand and were then shot toward each of the four.

This was Obito's strength. Not only did he avoid falling into a disadvantage while fighting one against four, but with Zetsu's hard crowd control, he instantly put all four of them in a death trap!
