Finneon and Fennekin aren't a reasonable combination. Even if the latter rides on the former, it only prevents Finneon from diving underwater to protect Fennekin, making it a target for the opponent's Coalossal.
Link isn't sure what Coalossal's ability is, so he can't easily let Finneon use a move that's 4x stronger than the opponent's Water-type move.
Coalossal with the "Flame Body" ability will burn any opponent it touches.
Coalossal with the "Steam Engine" ability will increase its Speed by 6 stages when hit by Water or Fire-type attacks.
But since the opposing trainer chose a Water-type Bikini as a partner, it's likely that it has the "Steam Engine" ability.
They probably want Coalossal to cover Bikini's maximum offensive power, and then the latter to cover Finneon's maximum Speed...
In an instant, Link made his judgment.
Just as he was thinking, the Digivice in his bag shone with the badge of knowledge, and even Fennekin and Dolphin seemed to be encouraged by their trainer.
"Big Cart, keep using 'Original Power'!"
Yusuke continued to greedily use the all-around stat boost from "Original Power," while simultaneously creating a suppressive attack to give the distracted Bebop time to recover.
Link, of course, wouldn't stand idly by while his opponent continued this simple tactic, having already written the equation for victory.
"Dive underwater and use 'Charm' on Big Cart, Fennekin, get ready to hold your breath."
"Eek?"
Upon hearing this, Finneon instinctively looked at the clearly Rock/Fire type Pokémon, wondering if it should use a Water type move.
However, its friendly and affectionate nature prevented it from hesitating too much, and it immediately obeyed its trainer's instructions.
Finneon carried Fennekin directly into the bottom of the pool, avoiding the barrage of "Original Power."
Immediately following, a "bewitching voice" emanated from the water, directly impacting the mind, traversing the barrage of rock projectiles and a distance of nearly half the arena to attack the consciousness of the Great Charcoal Car.
Its spirit momentarily weakened, but its exceptional endurance and special defense allowed it to withstand the attack.
Meanwhile, the Fennekin used "psychic power" to control the air as the Water Finneon entered the water, creating an air bubble above its head.
Although being wet was uncomfortable, it didn't need to worry about being unable to breathe or move underwater for a short time.
That said, this situation actually benefited Yusuke.
The Great Charcoal Car continuously suppressed the pool bombardment with "Primal Power" while waiting for the Great Tanuki behind it to break free from the "One More Time" interference.
During this time, the Great Charcoal Car, having repeatedly activated its Primal Power, had already luckily and significantly boosted all its abilities without even needing its teammates' assistance.
The rock-attribute energy projectiles became increasingly dense, their impact upon hitting the water still powerful enough to reach the bottom.
If it weren't for the limited visibility both above and below water, making it difficult for the large coal cart to aim, and the dolphins' ability to easily detect objects with sonar, the "Primal Power" used for suppression alone would have been enough to end the battle.
However, what the opponent never expected was that their idea of using firepower to buy time was entirely within Link's calculations.
"Black Mist."
Under the black mist, all beings are equal; any enhancement or weakening of abilities would be completely eliminated under the interference.
In just a moment, the pitch-black mist rising from the swimming pool spread throughout the entire arena, interfering with visibility both inside and outside the arena.
The large coal cart, which was already unable to hit anyone, continued to use "Primal Power" for suppression, while the large-tailed raccoon, who had finally recovered from "One More Time," looked around blankly with its sword drawn.
Where are they?
The sudden blockade of vision left Yusuke unable to think of a way to break through, while Link, who was already prepared, lit the smoke signal for a counterattack.
"Fennekin, use 'Psychic'."
The fox-dolphin hybrid, designed to avoid instant kills, hid in the pool, waiting for an opportunity. Taking advantage of the black mist blocking its vision, it used 'Psychic' to fly out of the pool.
This simple tactic, so straightforward it only required improvisation, didn't even need prior instruction; the Fennekin ,waiting underwater, acted on its own.
Although it still couldn't see clearly, guided by the water Finneon, it found a weak point in the enemy's firepower and used 'Psychic' to leave the pool.
Unaware of this, the giant caravan continued to bombard the pool with "Primal Power."
However, judging from the sounds of rocks hitting the water and the battlefield, the massive power boost was also causing significant strain. The caravan, which had been repeatedly casting "Primal Power" since the start of the battle, was gradually becoming exhausted and needed rest.
"Primal Power" consumed far more stamina and energy than most Rock-type moves.
Pokémon are living beings, after all, and they get tired too. Link seized this opportunity.
"It's time! Use 'Water Gun' to finish off the caravan!" The presence of the "
Mist" meant Link didn't need to worry about the "Steam Engine" ability, and the already poised Finneon immediately unleashed its highly effective "Water Gun."
However, even a four-times super effective attack couldn't render the Great Cart incapacitated.
Firstly, the Great Cart was excellent in both strength and stamina, and secondly, the Finneon was weak in all abilities except for stamina and speed...
"Great Cart?"
Yusuke asked tentatively, and upon receiving a response from his Pokémon, immediately seized the opportunity to counterattack: "Use 'Fire Vortex' and 'Water Jet' in the direction of the attack and the sound!"
The scorching "Fire Vortex" plunged into the "Mist," dispersing most of the mist while trapping objects at the target location within it.
Finally having a chance to attack, the Great Tanuki unleashed a massive jet of water from its tail, bursting forth with astonishing speed as it leaped across half the field to attack.
However, when it arrived at the vortex, it found it empty.
The Fennekin had already used "Psychic" to remove the Finneon from its original position.
As the two Pokémon's counterattacks failed, the latter, already back in the pool, seized an opening and fired a "Water Gun" at the Great Charcoal.
Even though its abilities far surpassed those of the Water Finneonthe Great Charcoal, whose abilities had been neutralized by "Black Mist," was ultimately unable to battle after two attacks that were four times more effective against it.
Without even a moment's grief over the Pokémon's defeat, Yusuke, having already identified his opponent, immediately ordered Tanuki to use "Water Jet" to pull him into close combat.
Tanuki's abilities also far surpassed those of the Water Finneon... It was best not to give them the opportunity to engage in close combat if possible.
"Psychic!" Stop! Ultrasonic! Interfere!
Just as Tanuki was about to plunge into the pool, its body suddenly froze in mid-air. It was attacked by the Fennekin, which had somehow gotten off the Water Pulse Dolphin, using its psychic powers.
But this was useless. The water-type energy surging around Tanuki destroyed the stability of its psychic powers in less than a second.
Unfortunately, before it could continue its attack, the Water Finneon below unleashed its full power with "Ultrasonic."
The unusual sonic waves threw the raccoon into disarray. Its previously maintained "Water Jet" attack suddenly lost direction, and it spun around, crashing headfirst into the battlefield!
"Charm Voice," "Hypnosis."
Seeing stars, the raccoon was about to continue its attack when a subsequent mental attack and hypnotic suggestion rendered it asleep on the spot…
