Another morning dawned, the sky overcast and gloomy, making the air feel even more stiflingly hot. Everyone was hoping for a quick rain to cool things down, but the dark clouds drifted lazily across the sky, showing no intention of releasing a downpour. The weather was tormenting people, stirring irritation in their hearts.
Jiang Yun was no exception. Sitting up in bed, a fine layer of sweat already coated his forehead, and his body felt sticky and uncomfortable. He picked up the remote and turned on the air conditioner. The cool breeze that followed eased some of the frustration in his heart.
Glancing at the clock, he saw it was just past 8 a.m. He got out of bed and walked out of his bedroom. The living room was empty. Usually, by this time, his mother would have already tidied up the house and prepared a delicious breakfast. But lately, she seemed increasingly tired and was getting up later and later.
Jiang Yun figured it was probably because the start of the school year was approaching, and there were more things to handle, leaving her exhausted and sleeping in. Being considerate, he didn't disturb her. Instead, he rummaged through the fridge for some leftovers to fill his stomach, then turned on the TV, keeping the volume low as he started watching a program.
He hadn't been watching for long when the doorbell suddenly rang. Jiang Yun wondered who could be visiting so early in the morning.
He got up and walked to the door, peeking through the peephole. To his surprise, it was that annoying Wang Kai again, leering right at the peephole. The sight instantly sent shivers down Jiang Yun's spine.
He unlocked the door and pushed it open just a crack before quickly retreating to the living room. Not wanting to interact too much with Wang Kai, whom he suspected of being a creep, Jiang Yun didn't even notice the person standing behind Wang Kai—someone he disliked even more: Sun Haoran.
Back in the living room, Jiang Yun resumed watching TV. Hearing footsteps approaching, he glanced up and saw Wang Kai holding a backpack and staring at him, while Sun Haoran trailed behind, looking awkward and uneasy, his head bowed.
The sight of Sun Haoran here too ignited a surge of anger in Jiang Yun. How dare this sleazy fat guy show up at his house?
Jiang Yun shot to his feet and strode over to the two of them, glaring directly at Sun Haoran as he snapped, "What the hell are you doing at my house?"
"Uh... I..."
"Calm down, Jiang Yun. Sun Haoran is also here for tutoring with Teacher Lin, right?"
"Yeah... right, tutoring."
"What are you butting in for? You're not welcome here. Get out!"
"Jiang Yun! How can you speak to a classmate like that? Apologize to him right now!"
"Apologize, my— cough cough—Mom, you're awake?"
Jiang Yun had almost blurted out, "Apologize, my ass," but halfway through, he realized something was off. That voice had been a woman's, and the only woman in the house was naturally his mother, Lin Mengjie. Thankfully, he managed to stop himself in time. If he had talked back to his mom and cursed, Jiang Yun felt his future would be bleak and hopeless.
Lin Mengjie, dressed in casual clothes, walked over to the group. Her slightly angry expression swept over them, making both Jiang Yun and Sun Haoran tremble and lower their heads. The stifling air around them suddenly felt icy cold. Of course, Wang Kai's thoughts were entirely different.
Lin Mengjie had woken up once during the night while sleeping alone at home. The first thing she wanted upon waking was to seek comfort from her young master, Wang Kai, but then she remembered he wasn't by her side, leaving her feeling particularly lost and empty. She tossed and turned for a long time before finally drifting back to sleep out of exhaustion.
When the doorbell rang just moments ago, Lin Mengjie woke up again. She nearly rushed out to greet her master completely naked but suddenly remembered Jiang Yun was still in the house. Flushing with embarrassment, she hastily threw on a couple of pieces of clothing and hurried out, only to find the group in the middle of an argument.
She spoke up first to stop the quarrel, then swept her cold, almond-shaped eyes over the group. Both Jiang Yun and Sun Haoran guiltily lowered their heads. But when her gaze landed on Wang Kai, who wore a mischievous grin, the ice in her eyes instantly melted into a pool of tenderness. She looked at him with a gentle yet slightly aggrieved expression.
Wang Kai gave her a reassuring glance, then tilted his head slightly toward Jiang Yun. Lin Mengjie nodded, took a deep breath, and composed herself. Wang Kai thought to himself how skilled women were at acting—their expressions changed faster than flipping a page. By then, Lin Mengjie had already spoken again:
"Of course, I'm awake. With all this commotion you're making, what's going on? Hmm?"
"This fat… ahem, he says he wants to come to our place for tutoring too."
"Oh? You're from Class 3, Sun… Sun, right?"
"Uh… yes… yes, hello, Teacher Lin. I'm Sun Haoran."
"Haoran saw how much I improved after studying with Teacher Lin for a few days, so he wanted to come for tutoring too."
Wang Kai deliberately emphasized the word "studying" and winked at Lin Mengjie as he finished. She caught the underlying meaning in his words and blushed slightly, though no one but Wang Kai noticed.
"Is that so?"
"Yes… yes, I'd like to ask Teacher Lin for some tutoring."
"Nonsense! Mom, you can't agree to this, you fatso!"
"Jiang Yun! How can you address a classmate like that? That's so rude! Apologize to him right now!"
"But, Mom, he's… ugh, I don't know how to explain it to you."
Jiang Yun scratched his head in frustration. How could he possibly say in front of his mother that Sun Haoran had a terrible character and had been masturbating to a photo of Su Qing? The thought made him so agitated he kept tugging at his hair.
"One thing at a time. Even if you don't like Sun Haoran, you shouldn't speak to a classmate like that. Do I need to say it a third time?"
"I!… Sigh… I'm sorry."
"It's… it's fine…"
Under his mother's stern gaze, Jiang Yun finally gave in. He took a deep breath, swallowing his anger, and forced out an "I'm sorry" through gritted teeth. Sun Haoran was also quite annoyed and didn't want to accept the apology, but with Jiang Yun's mother present, he repeatedly replied, "It's fine."
"Jiang Yun, go back to your room and do your homework!"
"But I've already finished it!"
"Then do it again!"
"Huh? But… Mom, I…"
"Hmm?"
"Uh… alright… fine, I'll do it again."
Jiang Yun trudged dejectedly back to his bedroom. Sun Haoran felt particularly pleased seeing Jiang Yun put in his place, though he didn't dare show it on his face. Even though Lin Mengjie wasn't his homeroom teacher, she still taught his class, and he held a deep respect and fear for the strict Teacher Lin.
Last night, Wang Kai suddenly called and told me to meet at this address by 9 p.m. Wang Kai was famously known as the top dog at school, so when Sun Haoran received his invitation, he couldn't help feeling a bit apprehensive. He arrived early at the given location and waited for a while before Wang Kai showed up. After some explanation, he realized this was actually Jiang Yun's home.
Sun Haoran immediately wanted to leave, but Wang Kai said, "Don't you want revenge? Against the man who stole your beloved Su Qing?" Sun Haoran froze in his tracks. However, Wang Kai didn't elaborate further, only instructing Sun Haoran to follow his lead. The two then approached Jiang Yun's door, leading to the scene that had just unfolded.
Sun Haoran secretly glanced at Lin Mengjie. Dressed in casual homewear, she lacked her usual intimidating aura, instead exuding a lazy kind of beauty. But when he recalled the cold, sharp look she had given him earlier, he still felt a shiver of fear.
His gaze drifted upward again and noticed that Teacher Lin wasn't looking at him, but her expression startled him. It was a look he knew all too well—the same gentle, infatuated gaze Su Qing had whenever she mentioned Jiang Yun or saw him. Every time Su Qing wore that expression, it pained Sun Haoran deeply, because the man in her eyes was never him.
But Sun Haoran had no time to dwell on his heartache now. He was utterly baffled as to why the usually cold and stern Teacher Lin would suddenly show such an expression. Following her gaze, he realized she was looking at—Wang Kai!?
Sun Haoran's mind went blank for a moment, feeling completely short-circuited. Why would Teacher Lin look at Wang Kai that way?
Logically, no teacher would ever like a school bully like Wang Kai. Could it be... that the two of them were having an affair?
Sun Haoran stood frozen, unsure of what to do, while Wang Kai unzipped his backpack and pulled out a bundle of clothes, handing them to Lin Mengjie. She took the clothes, then turned and glanced at Sun Haoran. Her eyes instantly turned cold and sharp again, making him wonder if what he had seen earlier was just an illusion. Yes, this was the Teacher Lin he knew.
But Wang Kai's next move completely shattered Sun Haoran's image of the aloof Teacher Lin. Wang Kai took two steps forward, stood in front of Lin Mengjie, and slapped her butt hard, producing a sharp "smack."
"Little bitch, go change into these clothes and let Haoran and me have a look."
"Mmm... yes, Master."
Lin Mengjie picked up the clothes, her face flushed with embarrassment, and returned to the bedroom. Wang Kai, meanwhile, casually sat down on the nearby sofa and turned on the TV, then waved for Sun Haoran to come over. Sun Haoran walked over in a daze, his mind reeling with shock.
("What the... hell? What did I just see? What did I just hear? Little... little bitch? Master? ...Teacher Lin and Wang Kai...??")
"So? Surprised?"
Wang Kai asked with a mischievous grin. Sun Haoran nodded numbly, thinking to himself that this was far from a surprise—it was downright terrifying. But Wang Kai had said he was bringing him here to get revenge on Jiang Yun. Did he mean...?
As thoughts of some R-rated scenarios crossed his mind, Sun Haoran suddenly felt a surge of excitement, growing eagerly anticipatory of what was to come.
On the living room sofa, Su Qing lay lazily, draped in a nightgown. Her eyes were unfocused, and her hair, usually tied into a cute ponytail, was now disheveled and cascading down her back. This disarray stripped away her usual playful charm, replacing it with a somewhat disheveled beauty.
Her red-rimmed eyes and deep dark circles revealed a sleepless night—a natural reaction for a high school girl who had suddenly endured gang rape. The fact that she hadn't completely broken down was a testament to her resilience.
Su Qing had barely slept, tossing and turning in bed. Several times, she picked up her phone, wanting to confide in Jiang Yun, but she always ended up hesitating. She hadn't figured out how to tell him, and she even wondered if it might be better to just break up.
Yet, she couldn't bear the thought of parting with Jiang Yun, while at the same time feeling too ashamed to continue their relationship.
Tears trickled down again as she drifted in and out of restless sleep, crying intermittently. In the middle of the night, she slipped out to buy emergency contraception. After taking the pill, she couldn't resist taking another shower, and it was nearly three or four in the morning before she finally fell into a heavy sleep. But the noise of her parents leaving for work woke her, and after that, she couldn't drift off again. So she had been sitting on the sofa ever since.
With a soft click, the bedroom door opened, and Su Lang emerged, looking just as exhausted—if not more so—than Su Qing. Hearing the sound, Su Qing snapped back to attention and, seeing her younger brother's weary appearance, quickly asked:
"Xiao Lang, why do you look so drained? Are you sick?"
"Huh? I… I just have a bit of a headache. Didn't sleep well."
"Are you okay? Do you have a fever?"
Su Qing stood up, hurried over to Su Lang, and reached out to feel his forehead, then her own.
"Hmm… you're a little warm, but I don't think it's a fever. Let me boil some water for you to drink!"
"Okay, thank you, sis."
"Hehe, Xiao Lang, no need to be so polite with your sister!"
Su Qing gently pinched Su Lang's cheek before turning and heading to the kitchen to boil water. Su Lang sniffed slightly; the faint scent of his sister still lingered in the air. Watching her force a cheerful expression while still caring for him despite her own pain, he couldn't help but inwardly question himself.
("Sis still cares for me so much… but I… I'm the one who caused her to… And now, even if I regret it… it's too late… Luo Qiang and the others won't stop.")
Once this had started, the situation was no longer in Su Lang's control. He knew better than anyone how captivating his sister was. Luo Qiang and his gang wouldn't be satisfied with just one encounter. Lost in thought, Su Lang stood frozen until Su Qing emerged from the kitchen, holding a cup of hot water.
"Xiao Lang? What are you thinking about? Why are you still standing there spacing out?"
"Ah… n-nothing."
"Come have some hot water. Be careful, it's hot."
"Mm…"
The siblings sat together on the sofa. Su Lang slowly sipped from the cup while Su Qing, feeling the awkward silence, turned on the TV. But neither was in the mood to watch, and they both ended up staring blankly at the screen.
"Ding dong! Ding dong!"
The sudden ring of the doorbell startled the dazed siblings, making them both jump to their feet. Simultaneously, they wondered if it was Luo Qiang and his gang arriving. However, their feelings at that moment were vastly different. In the end, Su Qing forced herself to calm down, walked to the door, and peered through the peephole. Sure enough, Luo Qiang and his crew were standing outside.
Seeing Luo Qiang's smug grin through the door, Su Qing's heart raced with panic. But hearing Su Lang's footsteps behind her, she steeled herself and turned to her brother.
"L-Little Lang, go back to your room for now!"
"Huh?"
"Listen to me! Go back!"
"Mm… okay…"
Relieved that Su Lang didn't question her further—after all, he had always been obedient over the years—Su Qing watched him retreat into the bedroom. She took several deep breaths, staring at the front door, before reaching out a trembling hand to turn the knob.
