The night sky over Kamui Station in Kamino Ward was choked with the heavy, metallic scent of industrial grease and the salty, damp air of the nearby ocean. It was an eerie, stagnant kind of quiet—the sort of silence that felt like a held breath right before a scream.
High above the sprawling yard of rusted shipping containers, crouched on the cold steel crossbeams of a towering cargo crane, two heroes maintained their silent watch over the empty shipyard below.
Ryukyu, the Dragoon Hero and the current Number 10 Pro Hero of Japan, kept her piercing golden eyes fixed downward. Despite her prestigious rank, there was no arrogance in her posture. If anything, her shoulders carried the invisible, crushing weight of constant self-reflection. She often wondered if she truly deserved her spot in the Top 10, if she was truly doing enough for the people who looked up to her. She was always quick to share the credit with her agency, her sidekicks, and the police force. But tonight, all of her self- doubt was pushed aside by a fierce desire to protect her city and the young student crouching beside her.
Nejire Hado, a third-year student from U.A. High's prestigious "Big Three," was a stark contrast to the quiet tension of the night. She was practically vibrating with unspent energy, her long, periwinkle hair catching the faint moonlight as she leaned dangerously far over the steel beam, her wide eyes taking in every inch of the yard.
"Hey hey hey, Ryukyu!" Nejire whispered, her voice an excited, rapid-fire stream of pure curiosity. "Why are we specifically at Kamui Station? Is it because it's by the water? Are we looking for boat criminals? Or train criminals? Do you think they have a submarine? You said your sidekicks caught someone scary yesterday, but how scary are we talking? Scary like a late-night horror movie, or scary like an unexpected math test? And what exactly are we looking for? Is it a secret? It's a secret, isn't it!"
Ryukyu couldn't help but offer a gentle, patient smile, her draconic eyes softening as she looked at her intern. She deeply valued Nejire's bright spirit and incredible potential, knowing how easily the grim reality of hero work could crush such optimism. It was her job to nurture that light, not dim it.
"It's not a secret, Nejire. Just a very delicate, very dangerous situation," Ryukyu explained softly, her voice carrying a maternal warmth. "One of my sidekicks apprehended a low-level gang member yesterday. He had a piece of weaponry so incredibly destructive, that when it misfired, it nearly leveled an entire apartment complex. I still shudder thinking about what could have happened to the families sleeping inside if we hadn't been there. When we interrogated the man, he was absolutely terrified. He confessed that the dealers who sold it to him are making a massive shipment tonight, right here. If these weapons hit the streets... I don't know if the local heroes could handle it. I have to stop it. It's my responsibility."
"Ooh," Nejire breathed, her eyes widening as she processed the gravity of the situation. Her bubbly demeanor dialed back a fraction, replaced by the sharp focus of a hero-in-training. "A mystery weapon! Does it shoot lasers? Or explosions? Or maybe exploding lasers? We won't let them hurt anyone, Ryukyu. I promise!"
"I know we won't. Shh," Ryukyu placed a gentle hand on Nejire's arm, her senses flaring. "Look. They're here."
The low, guttural, rumbling VHRRRMMM of heavy diesel engines broke the quiet of the station. Two massive, unmarked transport trucks rolled into the secluded clearing between the shipping crates. Right behind them, a sleek, black sedan glided to a smooth stop.
From the heavy trucks, several men emerged. They were entirely covered in deep, blood-red, heavy robes, their faces hidden by thick hoods that swallowed their features in shadow. From the sedan, a lone figure stepped out, and just the sight of him made the scales on the back of Ryukyu's neck prickle with unease.
It was a man in his mid-twenties with dark red, violently messy hair. Strapped over the lower half of his face was a heavy, bolted metal muzzle. His outfit was a chaotic, intimidating mess of red camouflage pants, heavy black boots, and a red singlet jacket. But what stood out were the spikes. Thick, sharpened steel spikes protruded from his knee guards, his shoulder pads, his arm guards, and his heavy metal gloves. And they weren't just for show—they were angled inward, digging into his own flesh.
"That's a known super-villain," Ryukyu murmured, her brow furrowing in deep concern. "He goes by the name Grit. A mercenary."
"Grit! I remember his file from the agency!" Nejire popped up slightly, though she kept her voice low. "Hey hey hey, his quirk is super weird, right? 'Agony Drive'! It basically allows him to convert his physical and mental pain into raw kinetic strength! That means to be super strong, he must always be in pain. That's why he wears all those spikes! That sounds so awful. Why would anyone want to live like that?"
Down below, one of the robed men stepped forward, carrying a heavy, reinforced metal case. Grit stomped over to him, moving with an aggressive swagger, and snatched the case right out of his hands.
CLACK
He popped the heavy latches and threw it open, staring inside with undisguised greed and a manic glee dancing in his eyes.
"Yeah... they got the good stuff," Grit's voice was muffled and rough through the metal muzzle, dripping with malice. "The big man is gonna be very, very happy with this."
The lead robed man nodded and gestured to the others. The robed men moved to the back of the transport trucks, throwing open the heavy doors. They began wheeling out massive wooden crates reinforced with thick steel bands.
Grit walked over to the nearest crate and violently kicked the lid off. CRACK! Wood splintered everywhere. He reached in and pulled out a weapon different from any other gun humanity has ever built. It looked half-gun, half-medieval lance, sleek and deadly, pulsing with a terrifying inner light.Level 5 black technology.
"As promised," the leader of the robed men spoke, his voice cold, hollow, and fanatical. "Factory new Laser Lances. They possess ether-point energy modules and antenna focus emitters."
The robed man pointed a gloved hand toward a large, rusted intermodal shipping container on the far side of the yard. "They are good for thirty-six minutes of continuous fire at point-six terawatts. Is that good enough for you, heathen?"
Grit smirked behind his muzzle. He hefted the heavy lance, aimed it casually at the massive shipping container, and pulled the trigger.
ZZZ-FWOOOOSH!
A blinding, searing beam of concentrated white energy erupted from the tip. The air cracked like a thunderclap. The beam struck the heavy steel shipping container, and in a fraction of a second, the massive box blew up, becoming an inferno caused by the phenomenon known as a dust explosion. A massive shockwave washed over the yard, rattling the massive crane Ryukyu and Nejire were hiding on. The edges of the remaining metal glowed white-hot, melting into slag.
Ryukyu gritted her teeth, her heart aching at the thought of those weapons being aimed at civilians, at children. "We can't wait for backup," she said, her voice filled with quiet, absolute resolve. "We can't let those weapons hit the streets. They're too dangerous. Nejire, stay close to me. We are taking them down now."
A hundred yards away, crouched behind the rusted, hulking wheels of an old steam train, three hidden figures watched the exchange in absolute horror.
"Who are these guys?" Itsuka Kendo whispered, her beautiful emerald eyes wide with shock as the shipping container literally evaporated before her eyes.
Beside her, Tatsuo Kendo grimaced, his weathered face tight with stress. He was wearing his heavy, white-and-black Plumber suit, looking like a heavily armored astronaut ready for war. He gripped his high-tech energy blaster tightly. "I'm not entirely sure about the buyer, but those weapons... that is Level 5 technology. Earth has only achieved Level 3 technology. This planet isn't ready for Level 5 tech yet. If that gets out, it will tear this city apart."
Izuku Midoriya, crouching on Tatsuo's other side, suddenly pointed up at the sky. "Look!"
Ryukyu had leapt from the crane. Mid-air, her body expanded, twisting and elongating as shimmering golden scales erupted across her skin. Massive, leathery wings snapped open, catching the coastal wind. Beside the magnificent dragon, Nejire descended gracefully, riding glowing spirals of golden-yellow energy.
THOOOOOM!
Ryukyu's draconic form slammed heavily onto the concrete, the impact cracking the ground beneath her talons. She glared at them with her piercing golden eyes, spreading her wings wide. "Halt, villains!" her draconic voice boomed over the shipyard, echoing like thunder. "You are all under arrest! Put your weapons down and your hands behind your heads!"
Behind the train, Tatsuo face-palmed, letting out a frustrated groan. "Damn it. What are they doing here? They think this is a standard villain bust. This adds far too many complications to the mission." He had brought Izuku and Kendo here to observe and assist from the shadows, not to engage in a multi-way war.
Down in the yard, the men in the red robes didn't even flinch at the sight of the giant dragon. Instead, the ones wheeling the crates reached up and grabbed the edges of their own faces.
SHHH-LUCK.
They literally tore their faces off.
With a sickening, high-pitched.
VREE-CHOO
And a blinding blue flash of light, they were no longer human. They were towering, pale-yellow monstrosities with bulbous orange eyes, writhing, grotesque tentacles for mouths, and limbs that bent at unnatural, sickening angles.
Kendo gasped, stumbling back against the train, her hands flying to her mouth. "Are those... is that what attacked you?" she asked Deku, her voice trembling. She wrapped her arms around herself, shuddering. "That's so gross..."
Deku swallowed hard, his fists clenching tight. "Right? DNAliens..."
The DNAliens shrieked, a sound like grinding metal and screaming animals, and began to advance on Ryukyu and Nejire.
Ryukyu immediately stepped in front of her intern, her instincts taking over. She spread her massive wings, shielding the girl. "Back off!" she roared, swiping a massive clawed hand through the air.
Nejire, usually so lighthearted, wrinkled her nose in disgust, but her eyes were sharp, scanning the battlefield with the mind of a top U.A. student. "Hey hey hey, ew! You guys are super gross and creepy! How do you all have the exact same quirk? Is it a mutation? A hive mind?"
She thrust her hands forward.
VWOOSH!
A massive wave of golden spiral energy blasted from her palms, striking two of the DNAliens square in the chest and sending them skidding backward across the concrete. "Ryukyu, what are they?"
"I don't know, Nejire! Just keep your distance and provide cover fire!" Ryukyu commanded.
But the remaining robed men—the ones who hadn't transformed—stepped forward. Their leader glared at the pro hero and the student. "Heretics!" he shouted, throwing off his red hood to reveal a gleaming, silver knight's helmet and heavy medieval armor. "Children of impurity!"
The other hooded men followed suit, casting off their robes to reveal that they too were clad in full plate armor, gripping the Laser Lances tightly.
"Brothers, come and fight with me!" the leader bellowed, raising his lance to the sky. "Eliminate these devil spawns! Purge the impure and restore the world back to its pure, untainted state!"
"Forever Knights," Tatsuo whispered from behind the train, his eyes narrowing in pure hatred.
"What are Forever Knights?" Kendo asked frantically, her hands glowing as her quirk prepared to activate.
"I've read up on them on the Heronet awhile back while studying for the entrance exams," Deku said rapidly, his mind racing. "They're an extremist cult. They constantly harass people with mutant type quirks and believe that they are the only pure beings left. They want to wipe out anyone who isn't 'normal' by their twisted standards."
In the yard, the situation deteriorated in seconds. The DNAliens completely swarmed Ryukyu. The dragon hero fought valiantly, swiping her massive claws—SLASH! ROAR!—sending three of the beasts flying into a stack of crates. But there were simply too many. Several DNAliens shot thick, muscular tentacles from their chests, wrapping them tightly around Ryukyu's arms, legs, and delicate wings. They pulled, using their immense, unnatural strength to drag the Number 10 hero down to the concrete.
"Ryukyu!" Nejire shouted. Her bubbly demeanor was entirely gone, replaced by pure, desperate panic. She raised her hands, charging up a massive wave of energy to blast the aliens off her beloved mentor.
But a DNAlien leaped from the shadows beside a truck.
SQUELCH!
It spat a massive glob of thick, viscous, yellow goop directly at Nejire's face.
The goop hit her dead-on, wrapping around her head and solidifying instantly into a rock-hard shell. Nejire's blast fired harmlessly into the sky as she collapsed to her knees, clawing frantically at her face. She couldn't breathe. The hardened slime was suffocating her, sealing off her nose and mouth completely.
Ryukyu saw her precious intern thrashing on the ground and let out a heartbreaking, desperate roar of pure anguish. She thrashed against the tentacles, caring nothing for her own safety.
"Nejire! No! Let me go! NEJIRE!"
She tried to rear back and breathe fire, but the Forever Knights raised their Laser Lances and opened fire.
PHEW! PHEW! PHEW!
The searing beams struck Ryukyu's golden scales. Even her draconic armor couldn't fully deflect Level 5 technology. She roared in agonizing pain as the heat scorched her flesh, pinning her down to the ground.
Behind the train, Izuku Midoriya's eyes widened in sheer horror. He saw the gentle, noble pro hero screaming in pain. He saw the gitl Nejire thrashing on the concrete, her movements growing weaker by the second as she suffocated.
His body moved before his brain could even register the command.
"Deku! Wait!" Kendo screamed.
But Izuku was already sprinting out from behind the train, tearing across the open shipyard. He didn't have a quirk. The Omnitrix on his wrist was currently locked, still glowing a dull red in its recharge cycle. He had no powers. But he physically could not just stand there and watch them die. It wasn't in his DNA.
"We have to help them!" Kendo shouted, her heroic instincts flaring to match Izuku's bravery. She didn't hesitate for a second. She ran right after him, her hands glowing brightly as she activated her quirk. Her hands expanded rapidly, growing to the size of massive wrecking balls.
"Itsuka! Midoriya!" Tatsuo screamed, stepping out from cover. He raised his heavy energy blaster and opened fire.
KRA-KOOM! KRA-KOOM!
Brilliant blue bolts of plasma struck the Forever Knights' line, blowing their Laser Lances out of their hands and scattering their ranks. "Don't you touch my granddaughter!" Tatsuo roared, providing expert covering fire.
Deku sprinted across the battlefield. As he ran, his eyes locked onto a jagged, heavy piece of sheared metal plating—scrap from the vaporized shipping container. He slid on his knees across the concrete, grabbing the heavy iron bar, and charged headlong at the Forever Knights.
A Forever Knight drew a heavy broadsword and swung it down at the green-haired boy. Deku ducked under the heavy blade, his analytical mind reading the man's stance instantly. He stepped inside the Knight's guard and swung his metal bar with everything he had.
CLANG! He struck the Knight hard in the knee joint, buckling the man's leg, before spinning and slamming the bar directly into his silver helmet. CRACK! The Knight stumbled back, completely disoriented.
"Kendo! Help Ryukyu!" Deku screamed, dropping the bar and diving toward Nejire's unmoving body.
Kendo nodded, her massive fists swinging like pendulums of doom. WHAM! CRASH! She slammed her giant hands into the DNAliens holding Ryukyu down, sending the disgusting aliens flying through the air like bowling pins. "Get your filthy tentacles off her!" she yelled fiercely, standing protectively in front of the wounded dragon hero, her massive hands raised like shields.
Deku dropped to his knees beside Nejire. She had stopped thrashing entirely. Her body was completely limp, and she wasn't breathing.
"No, no, no," Deku panicked, tears welling in his eyes. He grabbed the hardened goop over her face and pulled with all his meager strength. It felt like trying to rip solid concrete with his bare hands. It didn't even crack. "Tatsuo! Help! I can't get it off!"
Tatsuo rushed to his side, his blaster still smoking. He took one look at Nejire, then looked up. Kendo was fighting brilliantly, but more DNAliens were pouring out of the trucks, and the Knights were recovering, aiming their lances right at Kendo's back.
"Step back!" Tatsuo ordered Deku. He aimed his blaster directly at the goop on Nejire's face, dialed the power output down to an absolute minimum, and fired a localized heat-pulse.
CRACK
The goop splintered and fractured. Tatsuo grabbed the edges and violently ripped it apart, freeing her face.
She was completely still. Her lips were a terrifying shade of blue.
"She isn't breathing!" Deku shouted, his voice cracking with pure terror.
Tatsuo heard Kendo cry out in pain—a DNAlien had managed to graze her arm with a barbed tentacle. "Midoriya, listen to me!" Tatsuo barked, his voice commanding and absolute, cutting through Deku's panic. "I have to help Itsuka! You have to save her! Chest compressions and CPR! Now!"
"I don't know how to do it right!" Deku cried, tears streaming down his freckled cheeks.
"Listen to me!" Tatsuo grabbed Deku's hands, forcing him to focus. "Since she's a female, it's different than for a male! You must press the heel of your hand directly on the center of her sternum, between her breasts! Do not press on the lower ribs or you will puncture her lungs! Thirty compressions, two breaths! Like this!" Tatsuo pressed Deku's hands down, giving one firm, deep compression to show the required force. "Save her, kid! You can do this. Be the hero!"
Tatsuo spun around, raising his blaster, and charged back into the fray to protect Kendo and Ryukyu.
Deku was alone with the dying girl. The chaotic sounds of battle—blasters firing, monsters roaring, metal clashing—faded into a dull hum in the background. All he could focus on was Nejire's pale, lifeless face.
He positioned his hands perfectly, right where Tatsuo had shown him. One, two, three, four... He counted aloud, his voice shaking, pressing down hard, his arms burning with exertion. At thirty, he pinched her nose, tilted her chin up to open her airway, and blew two deep breaths into her mouth.
Nothing. Not even a twitch.
One, two, three, four... He pumped her chest again, pushing faster, pushing harder, pleading in his mind. Please. You're a hero. You're supposed to save people. I'm supposed to save you. He gave two more breaths.
Still nothing.
"Come on!" Deku screamed, tears falling freely onto Nejire's hero uniform as he started the third set of compressions. "Come on, come on, COME ON! Don't give up!"
He gave her the final two breaths, pulling away and staring at her chest, begging to whatever deity was listening for a rise.
Suddenly, Nejire's back violently arched off the concrete. She let out a jagged, hacking cough, rolling to her side as she sucked in a massive, ragged breath of sweet air.
Deku collapsed backward onto the pavement, sobbing openly in pure, unadulterated relief.
Nejire took another deep, shuddering breath, her chest heaving. She slowly opened her eyes, her usually bright blue irises dull and exhausted. She looked at the tear-stained, green-haired boy sitting next to her. Her bubbly demeanor was entirely gone; she looked at him with an intense, serious clarity, realizing just how close she had come to dying.
"Who... who are you?" she rasped, her voice incredibly weak.
Deku wiped his eyes, about to answer, but Nejire's head snapped to the side. Her hero instincts were returning, even if her strength wasn't. She saw Ryukyu, bloody and forced back into her human form, trapped alongside Tatsuo and Kendo behind a wall of snarling DNAliens.
"Ryukyu..." Nejire tried to force herself up, her hands glowing faintly with spiral energy, but she was far too weak. She slumped back against the concrete, her eyes filled with desperate, serious urgency. "You... you have to help them. Please."
Deku scrambled to his feet, panic seizing his chest again. He looked across the yard.
A Forever Knight, completely enraged, advanced on Kendo. The orange-haired girl was completely exhausted, her breathing ragged, her hands forcibly returning to their normal size. The Knight aimed his glowing Laser Lance directly at her head.
"Goodbye, impure filth," the Knight sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger. "May your death lead to a purer world."
Deku saw the gun. He saw Kendo's terrified, wide eyes.
Before his body could even think, before he could register the sheer impossibility of what he was doing, his legs were moving. He sprinted directly at the Knight, throwing himself right into the line of fire.
Suddenly, the Omnitrix on his wrist came alive.
The dull red light abruptly cut out. The faceplate of the watch began to physically shift, gears whirring and clicking loudly. It began beeping rapidly—
BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!
The core popped up, flashing a brilliant, blinding, neon emerald green. A holographic silhouette of a massive, hulking creature projected into the air. The watch had recalibrated. It was ready.
As the Knight pulled the trigger, Deku jumped directly in front of Kendo and slammed his palm down onto the watch.
K-CHOWWWWW!
An explosion of raw green energy consumed the shipyard, so bright it turned the night into day. The deadly laser beam struck the dome of light and dissipated completely harmlessly.
Inside the light, Izuku felt his body shifting. It wasn't painful, but it was incredibly intense. His bones lengthened, cracking and reforming into massive, dense pillars. His skin hardened, transforming into thick, pebbled, brown armor plating. His muscles expanded exponentially, pushing his height past Tatsuos, past All Mights, until he was towering twelve feet in the air. A massive, heavy, spiked tail slammed into the ground behind him, cracking the concrete.
The light faded.
Standing in front of the awestruck Kendo was a gargantuan, bipedal dinosaur-like humanoid. He was a literal mountain of muscle, scale, and raw power.
He threw his massive head back and let out a deafening roar that shook the rusted shipping containers and echoed across the water.
"HUMUNGOUSAUR!"
He looked down at his massive, four-fingered hands, his voice incredibly deep, gravelly, and resonant. "Whoa... is that me?" He flexed his massive arms, feeling the impossible, boundless physical strength coursing through every fiber of his being.
Ryukyu, clutching her side, and Nejire, sitting on the ground, stared in absolute, stunned silence. Tatsuo simply smirked, lowering his blaster. Hiroshi... your grandson would make you so incredibly proud.
Humungousaur slowly turned his massive head toward the Forever Knights and the DNAliens. His green eyes narrowed, a fierce, overwhelming protectiveness radiating from him.
"You're gonna regret hurting my friends!" he bellowed, his voice vibrating in their chests.
The Forever Knight who had just shot at Kendo stood frozen in absolute terror, his lance trembling in his hands. Humungousaur didn't even punch him. He simply stepped forward, casting a massive shadow over the man, and backhanded him.
WHAAAAM!
BOOOM!!
The impact sounded like a cannon firing. The Knight was launched completely off his feet, flying backward over a hundred meters before smashing directly through a brick wall in the distance.
Humungousaur charged the rest. He waded into the DNAliens like a wrecking ball through glass. He punched a DNAlien—CRUNCH!—sending it skipping across the concrete like a stone. He spun, his massive tail—CRAAAASH!—sweeping four more completely off their feet, snapping their tentacles.
The Forever Knights completely panicked. Their fanatical bravery dissolved into pure fear. They opened fire, but as Humungousaur crossed his thick arms over his face, the Laser Lances just bounced harmlessly off his tough hide, leaving tiny scorch marks that he barely even felt.
He lunged forward, grabbed two Knights by their heavy armor, and literally tossed them aside like broken toys. CLANG! CLANG!
He stood tall, towering over the terrified remnants of the villains. "You want some more?!" he roared furiously.
The DNAliens shrieked in absolute, primal terror. They abandoned the crates of weapons, scrambling like frightened insects back into the transport trucks. The Forever Knights dropped their expensive lances and ran after them, their armor clanking in cowardice. The trucks roared to life, tires screeching wildly as they tried to flee the yard.
"Oh no you don't!" Humungousaur thundered.
He sprinted forward, his heavy footsteps—BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!—shaking the earth itself. He reached the side of the speeding truck, lowered his shoulder, and slammed into it with all his momentum.
SCREEEEE-CRUNCH! The massive, multi-ton transport truck was lifted completely off its wheels, flipping over and crashing violently onto its side in a massive shower of sparks, shattered glass, and groaning metal. Humungousaur stood back, admiring his handiwork. "Man, I am strong! Is this what it's like to have a quirk? This is awesome!"
He turned around to check on Kendo and the others when a rough, grating voice called out.
"Hey! Lizard!"
Grit landed heavily in the center of the yard, having leapt from atop a shipping container. His eyes were wide with a manic, battle-crazed fury. He reached his hands to his chest and violently slammed the sharp steel spikes of his gloves directly into his own torso. He screamed in pure, unadulterated agony, but as he did, jagged black and red arcs of kinetic lightning surged around his body, bulging his muscles to grotesque, terrifying proportions. His Agony Drive was at maximum output.
"I've been itching for a real fight for a while now!" Grit screamed through his metal muzzle, spitting blood. "Since you ruined my deal, I might as well get some revenge! Let's see how tough those scales are!"
Grit charged at blinding speed. He leaped into the air and brought his glowing, lightning-wreathed fist down squarely onto Humungousaur's chest.
KABOOOOOM!
The force of the impact was so incredibly intense it created a massive shockwave that blew the dirt and debris away in a perfect circle, cratering the solid concrete beneath Humungousaur's feet. The sound was deafening.
But Humungousaur didn't flinch. The blow hadn't even pushed him back a single inch. He slowly looked down at Grit, who was staring at his own fist in absolute shock.
Humungousaur simply reached out, grabbed Grit by the collar of his spiked jacket, lifted him completely off the ground, and casually tossed him away. Grit flew through the air, crashing hard against a massive metal shipping container, leaving a deep dent in the steel.
Grit groaned, sliding to the ground. He looked up, his rage boiling over as he saw the Forever Knights and the DNAliens escaping in the other truck, leaving him behind with no tech and no money.
"This is your fault!" Grit screamed like a madman. He scrambled to his feet, grabbed the bottom of the massive metal shipping container he had just dented, and with a scream of pure, agonizing effort, lifted the multi-ton box straight over his head. He spun around, aiming not at Humungousaur, but at Kendo, Tatsuo, Ryukyu, and the recovering Nejire.
"DIE!" he roared, throwing the massive container right at them.
Kendo gasped, throwing her arms up. Ryukyu tried to move to shield them, but she was too injured. They all shut their eyes, bracing for the crushing, fatal impact.
But the pain never came.
A massive shadow fell over them. Kendo slowly opened her eyes and looked up.
Humungousaur was standing directly over them, his massive arms raised high. He had caught the flying container right out of mid-air. He looked down at Kendo, giving her a gentle, reassuring smile that looked completely out of place on his terrifying dinosaur face.
"I got it," he rumbled gently.
He looked back up. Grit was rushing at him again, howling in mindless fury, his fists glowing with red energy.
Humungousaur narrowed his eyes. He shifted the way he was holding the massive container, gripped the edges tightly, spun his entire twelve-foot body around to build incredible momentum, and swung the container like a massive baseball bat.
BAMMMMM!
The metal container smashed squarely into Grit. The villain didn't stand a chance. He was launched violently into the night sky, flying up and over the shipyard, disappearing into the dark distance like a shooting star.
"HOMERUN!" Humungousaur shouted, throwing his massive arms up in victory.
Suddenly, the Omnitrix symbol on his chest began to beep loudly.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BWOO!
The symbol flashed a bright, warning red.
With a flash of crimson light, the giant dinosaur vanished completely. Izuku Midoriya dropped to his hands and knees on the cracked concrete, gasping for breath, completely and utterly exhausted. The adrenaline was leaving him, leaving only sore muscles and a pounding headache.
He heard frantic footsteps running toward him. "Midoriya!"
Before he could even stand up, Kendo crashed into him. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder. She was crying, her body shaking violently against him.
Izuku froze, his arms hovering awkwardly in the air. He was completely flustered, his face turning bright red. "K-Kendo?"
Tatsuo walked over, raising his blaster and firing a low-powered beam to dissolve the remaining goop trapping Nejire's legs, finally freeing the U.A. student completely.
"You absolute idiot..." Kendo sobbed into Izuku's shoulder, holding him tighter. "I was so worried! Seeing you jump in front of that gun to save me... I thought you were gonna die! I should have listened to my grandpa. It's all my fault..."
Izuku's hesitation melted away completely. He slowly lowered his arms and hugged her back, his grip firm and comforting. "Kendo....Itsuka," he said softly, using her first name to ground her. "It's okay. I would have done the exact same thing again. I'm just so glad you're okay."
As the two teens held each other, Tatsuo helped Ryukyu to her feet. The pro hero was battered, her costume torn, and her scales were gone, but she stood tall.
Ryukyu looked around the destroyed shipyard. She looked at the abandoned, high-tech Laser Lances scattered on the ground. She looked at the residual yellow slime left by the horrific DNAliens. And finally, she looked at the two teenagers holding each other, and the old man in the highly advanced space suit.
Her usual gentle, humble demeanor was entirely gone. It was replaced by a stern, heavily suspicious glare of a veteran hero who realized she was standing in the middle of something much, much bigger than a simple weapons deal.
"I am grateful for your assistance, and for saving my intern's life," Ryukyu said, her voice tight, cold, and utterly professional. "But I need answers right now. I have never seen tech like that in my entire career, and I have never heard of villains mutating into monsters like that. And I certainly want to know what two children and an old man in an astronaut suit are doing fighting a war in my city. So start talking."
