Chapter 66 - Chapter 66 - The Weight of the Boundary

The wind moved quietly across the headquarters rooftop.

Asher stood alone.

Below him, the city looked calm — almost indifferent. As if the world had already accepted Sebastian's death and decided to move on.

But Asher hadn't.

"Captain."

The word felt heavier than any pressure he had ever created.

Sebastian's voice wasn't just a memory.

It lingered.

"Power is meant to protect. Not to crush."

Asher closed his eyes.

And then—

The air shifted.

Zero Field activated.

He hadn't called it.

The atmosphere thickened. The metal railings around the rooftop bent inward with a low groan. The wind lost direction.

"Stop…" he whispered.

But the energy didn't listen.

This was different.

This wasn't just Zero Field.

This was deeper.

A Fracture in Time

Sound dulled.

The city noise faded as if submerged underwater.

Then he heard it—

Heartbeats.

Not just his.

Everyone's.

Inside the headquarters.

Dozens of rhythmic pulses overlapping inside his mind.

Time slowed.

A bird in midair seemed suspended, frozen between wingbeats.

Asher opened his eyes.

The red ring in his right eye glowed steadily now.

But within that crimson circle… something darker moved.

"What are you…?" he murmured.

The Emergence

Space twisted.

A black distortion formed several meters ahead.

The air folded inward, collapsing around a single point.

Something stepped out.

It wasn't human.

It wasn't alive.

It was a remnant — a fragment of Boundary energy left behind after the forbidden zone incident.

Its form flickered like broken geometry.

Asher stepped forward.

No fear.

Only confusion.

The entity vanished.

And reappeared in front of him.

Impact.

Their clash cracked the rooftop concrete.

Asher slid back but didn't fall.

He countered with a punch.

But this time—

He didn't compress the air.

He compressed space.

The point of impact disappeared for a fraction of a second.

Erased.

Reality blinked.

From a distance, Wang watched, eyes narrowing.

"That… isn't Zero Field."

The Hesitation

The entity struck again.

Asher blocked.

But for a split second—

He saw Sebastian's face overlapping the creature's distorted form.

His hands trembled.

Hesitation.

That moment cost him.

The entity's strike slammed into his chest and sent him crashing across the rooftop.

Blood touched his lips.

He dropped to one knee.

The Voice

Then he heard it.

Cold.

Detached.

Inside him.

"Compress everything."

His breath grew heavy.

No.

"You hesitate because you are weak."

It wasn't Sebastian.

It wasn't Cassiel.

It was something else.

The Boundary itself.

Asher closed his eyes.

He remembered Sebastian's final expression.

Not anger.

Not fear.

A quiet smile.

"Protect."

The entity charged again.

This time—

Asher stood.

Boundary Burst

He raised his hand.

A sphere formed.

But not the usual one.

Red and black energy intertwined within it, unstable yet silent.

"Zero Field… Boundary Layer."

The sphere expanded—

And detonated without sound.

Silence swallowed the rooftop.

A 20-meter radius bent inward.

Concrete warped.

Air collapsed.

The entity vanished.

Completely.

The Most Terrifying Part

Asher remained standing.

Blood ran down his chin.

But he felt—

Nothing.

No pain.

No rage.

No grief.

Sebastian's death, which had been burning inside him…

Went quiet.

Empty.

And that emptiness was worse than agony.

The rooftop door burst open.

"Asher!"

Ella ran toward him.

"Are you okay?"

He looked at her.

One second.

Two.

Three.

"Yes."

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

The red ring in his eye no longer flickered.

It stabilized.

Darkness settled deeper within it.

From below, Wang watched in silence.

And thought:

"Sebastian… what exactly did you leave behind?"

The camera pulls back.

The city remains peaceful.

But the boy standing on that rooftop—

Is no longer the same.

A captain was born.

And the Boundary has opened.
