Chapter 12 - chapter 12: Coma.

Chapter 12: Coma.

Keifer didn't wake up after surgery.

The doctors had warned us.

"Severe trauma," they said.

"His body needs time."

"He may remain unconscious."

Time.

I didn't know ten days could feel like ten years.

Day 1

The machines were the first thing I memorized.

The steady beep of the heart monitor.

The slow rise and fall of his chest.

The quiet hum of the ventilator support.

I sat beside his bed and held his hand.

It was warm.

That was enough to keep me breathing.

Aries came in the morning.

"You should rest," he said.

"I am resting."

"You didn't sleep."

"I blinked."

He didn't argue after that.

Felix came later with food.

He placed it on the table.

"You don't have to eat now," he said quietly.

"But if you collapse, Keifer's going to wake up just to scold you."

I ate.

Because that sounded like something Keifer would do.

Day 2

The hospital room smelled like antiseptic and silence.

I learned the nurses' schedules.

7 AM – vital checks.

9 AM – medication.

12 PM – doctor rounds.

The doctor explained again.

"His brain experienced shock, but there's no severe permanent damage detected."

"So he'll wake up?" I asked.

"Yes."

Pause.

"We just don't know when."

That word again.

Time.

That night, I leaned closer to him.

"I'm still here," I whispered.

"In case you forgot."

Day 3

Section E came.

All of them.

They tried to be quiet.

That lasted three minutes.

Felix stood near the bed.

"…Bro, if you don't wake up soon, Aries is becoming the main character."

Aries smacked him.

Ci-N placed snacks on the table.

"For Jay," she said. "Not you. You're useless right now."

For the first time since the accident, I smiled.

Before leaving, Aries spoke softly near Keifer.

"Everything's handled. Don't worry."

Because even unconscious…

Keifer worried about everything.

Day 4

His father arrived.

Keizer Watson stood at the foot of the bed.

Two bodyguards waited outside.

He didn't touch Keifer.

Didn't speak immediately.

Just watched the monitors.

Then he asked me, "Have you left this room?"

"No."

"When did you last sleep?"

"I don't remember."

He studied me the way he studied everything.

Then he said quietly:

"Good."

Not comfort.

Not kindness.

Approval.

Before leaving, he added:

"He doesn't wake up for weakness."

That night, I held Keifer's hand tighter.

Day 5

I started talking to him more.

About school.

About Section E chaos.

About Felix almost getting suspended again.

"Aries is handling everything," I told him.

"But he looks stressed. So you need to come back."

The nurse said hearing familiar voices helps.

So I kept talking.

Even when my voice got tired.

Day 6

The swelling had reduced.

That's what the doctor said.

"His body is responding well."

But he still didn't wake up.

I rested my head on the side of his bed.

"I know you hate losing control," I murmured.

"So you should probably wake up soon."

No movement.

Just the steady beeping.

Day 7

I finally slept.

Only because Aries and Ci-N forced me to.

Two hours.

When I woke up, my first reaction was panic.

I rushed back into the room.

He was still there.

Still breathing.

Still fighting.

I sat down again.

"I'm not going anywhere," I told him.

Day 8

Kuya angelo came again.

This time he spoke to keifer.

"You caused a security review," he said calmly.

"The driver is in custody."

Pause.

Then, quieter:

"Wake up."

It was the closest thing to emotion I'd heard from him.

Day 9

The doctor said something new.

"Sometimes patients wake suddenly after long unconscious periods."

Suddenly.

I held onto that word all day.

That night, I leaned close.

"Ten days, Keifer," I whispered.

"That's enough drama."

Day 10

Nothing changed.

And somehow, that scared me more than anything.

The room felt too quiet.

Too still.

I held his hand with both of mine.

"I know you can hear me," I said softly.

"You don't lose. You don't quit."

My voice broke.

"So don't you dare lose this."

A tear fell onto his hand.

I didn't wipe it away.

Day 11 – Morning

I was half asleep, my head resting beside him.

The machines beeped steadily.

The sunlight was just starting to enter the room.

Then—

Something moved.

At first, I thought I imagined it.

I lifted my head.

His fingers.

They twitched.

My heart stopped.

"Keifer?"

Slowly.

Very slowly.

His hand tightened around mine.

His eyelids moved.

Then opened.

Unfocused at first.

Then searching.

Until they found me.

I was already crying.

"You're late," I whispered.

His voice was weak.

Dry.

But it was him.

"…You didn't leave."

I shook my head.

"Not once."

His fingers tightened slightly.

Then, even like that…

Barely awake.

Barely strong.

He said:

"Good."

Because even after ten days in darkness—

The first thing Keifer Watson checked…

Was whether I was still there.
