Chapter 101 - Red Banners

Third Person

The kingdom held its breath for two days. Everyone expected the outcome to be bad, so preparations had begun in silence.

Within the king's private chamber, Prince Marcus and his mother, Morgan, stepped in for the first time since Rain's imprisonment.

"My king," Morgan purred as she stepped forward.

King Aldric did nothing to stop her wandering fingers from roaming all over his body. He was worried, his brows furrowed, but it was not at her. It was a fact that the man he called his mate had left the palace three days ago and was yet to return or send word about his safety and whereabouts. King Aldric was even more worried because the guard trailing Bel had lost him, and now two others couldn't locate him.

Marcus took a seat opposite his parents, his head held high and his eyes burning with hope.

King Aldric cleared his throat and slightly shifted forward.

"How is preparation going?" he asked so calmly that one would think he was talking about the weather.
