Kairos stepped out of the bathroom first, hair still damp, wearing a simple black t-shirt and gray sweatpants the hotel had provided. He felt refreshed after the long drive, but the single large bed in the center of the luxurious suite made everything feel heavier.
Aria came out a few minutes later, wearing a soft white hotel robe that reached her knees. Her raven-black hair was loose and slightly wet, framing her face. She looked calm on the surface, but the faint blush on her cheeks told a different story.
They both sat on opposite sides of the huge bed, the rose petals from the honeymoon setup still scattered around them.
Kairos cleared his throat, trying to break the awkward silence.
"So… are you hungry? Should I order dinner?"
Aria nodded, her violet eyes meeting his for a moment before looking away.
"Yes. I'm hungry."
Kairos picked up the room phone and ordered quickly — grilled seafood, fresh salad, rice with herbs, and two glasses of juice. He added a dessert at the end, not thinking much about it.
While they waited, they talked about the hunt.
"How exactly are we going to locate the shard once we're in the rift zone?" Aria asked, her voice steady but curious.
Kairos leaned back against the headboard.
"The Chrono Echo crystal I have will help guide us. It has a resonance with time-related shards. The system says the target is deep, around 1,200 meters, but the currents are strong. We'll need to be careful with the submersible."
Aria nodded, playing with the edge of her robe.
"I'll handle the illusions to hide us from larger creatures. My barriers can also deflect minor temporal riptides. But if we run into a leviathan pod…"
"We'll use the harpoon and the stun rounds first," Kairos replied. "Only fight if we have to."
They continued discussing equipment, routes, and backup plans. The conversation flowed easily now — professional, focused, and strangely comfortable.
A soft knock came at the door twenty minutes later.
Dinner arrived.
The staff wheeled in a trolley with covered plates. The food smelled amazing — steamed fish with lemon-herb sauce, crisp salad, and fragrant rice. Along with the main meal was a small silver dish containing two heart-shaped chocolates, beautifully wrapped in red foil with a note that read "Compliments of the House – For Special Guests."
They both assumed it was standard honeymoon service.
Kairos smiled. "Looks good."
They ate together on the bed, plates balanced on their laps. The food was delicious, and the conversation shifted from the hunt to lighter topics — stories from the market, Reck's ridiculous behavior, even a few jokes about the single bed situation.
When they finished the main course, they both reached for the chocolates at the same time.
"These look fancy," Aria said, unwrapping hers.
Kairos did the same. "Probably just regular hotel chocolate."
They ate the chocolates slowly.
At first, nothing happened.
Then, a gentle warmth began to spread through their bodies.
It started in the chest and slowly moved outward — a soft, tingling heat that made their skin feel more sensitive. Their breathing became a little deeper. The room suddenly felt warmer than before.
Kairos glanced at Aria. She looked even more beautiful under the soft lighting. The way her damp hair fell over her shoulder, the curve of her neck, the way her violet eyes caught the light…
Aria felt the same. Kairos's gray eyes seemed deeper, his jawline sharper, his presence more magnetic. She couldn't stop looking at him.
The flirting that had been light and playful all day suddenly became heavier, more intense.
"You know…" Kairos said, voice lower than usual, "you look really beautiful tonight."
Aria's cheeks flushed. She leaned a little closer.
"You're not so bad yourself."
They kept talking, but the words were laced with something new — lingering gazes, small smiles, accidental touches when they reached for water glasses.
The warmth kept building.
Aria's control slipped first.
She suddenly moved forward, cupping Kairos's face with both hands, and kissed him.
It wasn't gentle. It was urgent, full of the heat the chocolate had awakened.
Kairos froze for half a second — then responded. His hands found her waist, pulling her closer as he kissed her back.
For a few long moments, the only sounds in the room were their breathing and the soft rustle of fabric.
Then the interface flared brightly in Kairos's vision.
[Warning: External influence detected.]
[Desire-enhancing compound in the chocolate. Apologies — I detected it too late.]
[Neutralizing now.]
A faint, colorless gas released from the air vents — silent, odorless, and fast-acting.
Both of them felt their eyelids grow heavy almost instantly.
Aria pulled back slightly, eyes fluttering.
"What… is happening…?"
Kairos tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come.
They both collapsed onto the bed, side by side, falling into a deep, dreamless sleep.
Morning light filtered through the curtains.
Kairos woke first. His head felt slightly foggy, but the memories of last night came rushing back in sharp, vivid flashes — the chocolate, the warmth, the kiss.
He turned his head.
Aria was still asleep beside him, breathing softly.
His gaze fell on her lips.
There was a small, faint cut on her lower lip — like a tiny mark from where they had kissed too intensely.
Kairos touched his own lips instinctively.
He felt the same small cut there.
The realization hit him like cold water.
Everything from last night — the chocolate, the sudden heat, the way they had lost control — came back in full color.
He stared at the ceiling, heart pounding.
What the hell happened last night…?
To be continued...
