Chapter 3 - Chapter3 : The Roots of Ragnarok

Dawn came cold.

Kael stepped out of the half-built shelter, breath visible in the morning air.

The plains were quiet.

Too quiet.

He trained first.

Swing.

Step.

Swing.

Adjust grip.

[Crafting Proficiency Increased]

The system flickered faintly.

His movements were becoming cleaner. Efficient. Controlled.

Angelika approached.

"Water is collected," she said.

Kael nodded.

"Good. Today we expand food reserves."

He needed surplus.

Surplus meant security.

Security meant growth.

He descended toward the forested slope.

That was when he heard it.

A scream.

High.

Panicked.

Not Angelika.

He moved instantly.

The Plant That Should Not Exist

In a clearing ahead, four young women were trapped against fallen logs.

Before them stood something grotesque.

A massive rooted plant.

Its bark split into something resembling a face.

Two hollow eye sockets.

A circular maw filled with fibrous tendrils.

Vines writhed like serpents across the ground.

One root shot forward—

And wrapped around a girl's ankle.

She screamed as she was lifted.

The system activated.

[Monster Identified: Ragnarok Sprout]Level: 2Status: Root-BoundAbilities: Root Extension | Ground Shock | Regeneration

Kael's jaw tightened.

Level 2.

Higher than him.

But it can't move.

Good.

The sprout tightened its grip on the girl.

Time ran out.

Kael sprinted.

Not toward the center—

But toward the outer root network.

He severed the vine with a single clean strike.

The girl fell and scrambled away.

The creature turned toward him.

The ground trembled.

Multiple roots burst upward.

Kael leapt backward—but one struck his ribs.

Pain exploded through his side.

His weapon flew from his grip.

The sprout's mouth opened wide.

Energy pulsed from the soil into its body.

Regeneration accelerating.

Kael forced himself upright.

Think.

Roots.

It draws strength from underground.

He dove toward his fallen blade.

Another root lashed at him—

He caught it mid-swing and twisted, using its own momentum to pull himself closer.

He didn't attack the visible vines.

He slammed his blade into the main trunk.

Sap burst outward.

The creature shrieked.

Roots flailed wildly.

The ground shook violently.

Kael was thrown back.

Blood ran down his side.

He could retreat.

He should retreat.

But if it levels up—

It becomes mobile.

That would mean territory loss.

He grabbed a burning branch from a nearby campfire the girls had abandoned.

Fire.

Plants fear fire.

He charged.

Dodged two lashes.

Then shoved the flame directly into the creature's open maw.

The interior ignited.

The sprout convulsed violently.

Kael leapt forward and drove his blade straight down through the split trunk.

The Ragnarok Sprout split apart.

Collapsed.

Burned.

Silence returned.

[Monster Eliminated: Ragnarok Sprout]Reward: +20 Points

Kael dropped to one knee.

His breathing ragged.

One of the girls approached carefully.

"You… you saved us."

He looked at them now.

They were calm.

Too calm for ordinary villagers.

Strong frames.

Clear eyes.

Balanced stance.

He activated Insider Ability.

The screen flickered.

Species: AbyssariPhysiology: Enhanced Strength (x2 Human)Endurance: HighSocial Structure: Matriarchal Chief System

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Elara

A woman stepped forward.

Older than the others.

Composed.

Her gaze was steady, intelligent.

"I am Elara," she said.

"Chief of the Riverborn."

Kael blinked.

Chief?

"We were ambushed by that creature while relocating."

Her eyes scanned him.

"You fight strategically. Not recklessly."

Kael didn't answer.

He simply asked, "How many are you?"

"Twelve."

Twelve.

The system's mission echoed in his mind.

Recruit 10 villagers.

He studied her.

"You are not human."

It wasn't a question.

Elara did not deny it.

"We are Abyssari. We do not hunt humans. But humans fear us."

Angelika's warning made sense now.

Kael thought quickly.

Strong.

Organized.

Twelve members.

This wasn't charity.

This was alliance.

"You need territory," he said calmly.

"Yes."

"I need manpower."

Silence stretched between them.

Then Elara nodded.

"Then let us speak as leaders."

Titanblood Grows

By evening, the Abyssari reached Kael's settlement.

Angelika's expression tightened immediately.

"They are not human."

"I know," Kael replied calmly.

Elara stepped forward.

"We seek cooperation. Not dominance."

Angelika didn't lower her guard.

"Why should we trust you?"

Elara met her gaze.

"Because if we wanted to take this land, we would not ask."

Silence.

Tension thick.

Kael stepped between them.

"We build together. Or we weaken separately."

Angelika exhaled slowly.

She didn't like it.

But she understood.

Survival was math.

And the numbers favored alliance.

Construction

Four hours of daylight remained.

"Shelter first," Kael ordered.

This time—

He didn't do everything himself.

He directed.

"You. Support beams."

"You two. Timber alignment."

"Angelika, coordinate structure placement."

The Abyssari strength became obvious.

Logs that once took Kael full effort were lifted effortlessly.

With Crafting activated—

Joints aligned.

Foundations stabilized.

By sunset—

Four reinforced wooden houses stood at the mountain base.

Not huts.

Structures.

The system pulsed.

[Village Population: 14][Settlement Status: Recognized][Stability: 28%]

Higher than before.

Kael allowed himself a small breath.

Fire Between Leaders

That night—

The air inside the main house was tense.

Elara sat across from Angelika.

Both strong.

Both intelligent.

Both aware of their positions.

Elara spoke first.

"In Abyssari custom, the one who saves the tribe earns leadership recognition."

Angelika's eyes narrowed.

"And?"

"And I recognize Kael as primary chief."

That was not submission.

That was political alignment.

Angelika understood immediately.

She looked at Kael.

"This will cause friction."

"I know."

Elara added calmly, "Strength attracts challenge."

Kael leaned forward.

"Then we prepare for it."

Silence followed.

Not romantic.

Not seductive.

Strategic.

Two powerful women.

Two cultures.

One fragile settlement.

Outside, the wind moved through the plains.

And somewhere far beyond—

Spirit Wolf scouts were already tracking the river downstream.

System Update

As Kael lay awake that night—

A final notification appeared.

[New Threat Detected: Spirit Wolf Movement][Estimated Contact: 3–5 Days][Preparation Time Limited]

Kael stared at the ceiling.

Good.

Let them come.

Titanblood would not burn like the last village.

It would endure.

It would expand.

And one day—

It would rule
