Chapter 17 - chapter 17 : The first quest

After all that, walked out of the tavern and headed toward a large building.

He entered the place, looking around with curiosity. Everyone stared at him attentively, and some people whispered,

"What's a kid doing here?"

Joel approached the secretary and asked,

"Ma'am, what is this place?"

The secretary replied,

"This is the ."

Joel smiled slightly.

"I'm going to become an adventurer."

The secretary looked surprised and replied with a polite smile,

"You're still young. Being an adventurer is very dangerous."

Joel froze for a moment, thinking. Then he asked,

"Ma'am… what is an adventurer?"

The secretary smiled again.

"An adventurer is someone who completes quests and hunts monsters."

Joel nodded and replied confidently,

"Then I must become an adventurer."

Some people in the room began laughing.

"This kid really wants to become an adventurer!" one of them mocked.

However, a woman dressed in yellow and black, with long silver hair, simply smiled.

Nearby stood a large man with a scar over his left eye. He wore silver armor and carried a long sword on his back. He slowly approached Joel.

"Kid, being an adventurer is dangerous. You have your whole life ahead of you. I don't want to see someone so young die."

Before Joel could answer, the silver-haired woman intervened.

"What is your goal, child?"

Joel replied with confidence,

"I want to find a witch who can remove a curse I have."

Several people in the room murmured,

"A curse…"

The woman stepped forward.

"Enroll him," she said.

This woman was known as , the Mad Fury, a genius strategist, powerful mage, and sword master who had made contracts with several demons.

Joel was then registered.

He thanked the woman, and she smiled quietly to herself.

"Interesting… that curse."

Joel soon left the guild with his adventurer card in his hand.

On it was written a E (large E), the lowest rank.

Joel was very happy.

But then he realized something.

He had forgotten to take a quest.

So he returned to the guild.

"That kid again…" some people whispered.

Joel walked to the secretary again.

"Madam."

"Yes?" she replied.

Joel showed his card and smiled slightly.

"Please give me a quest."

She handed him a quest.

"Gather medicinal herbs in a forest near the city."

Joel listened carefully and then left.

He exited the city and entered the forest with the map in his hand. Once he was far enough away, he opened it.

He then opened his eyes and looked at the map.

After that, he looked down at the grass and said,

"But I know this grass!"

Joel ran through the forest, searching for the medicinal herbs.

Suddenly, his gaze met that of a bird.

The bird immediately fell to the ground, dead.

Joel looked at it sadly and closed his eyes.

He continued walking through the forest, lost in his thoughts.

Soon he entered the cursed forest, found the herbs, and placed them in a bag.

While returning, he noticed a female adventurer.

Instinctively, Joel closed his eyes.

Meanwhile, the woman was looking around nervously.

Joel approached her.

"I feel something approaching me," she whispered while slowly turning toward a silhouette.

She was breathing heavily, clearly frightened.

I thought the monsters of this place would kill me… Will I die here?

Then she saw a child.

She exhaled in relief.

"What is a kid doing here?" she asked.

Joel replied with a small smile.

"I was gathering herbs."

At that moment, the wind blew strongly.

The woman immediately covered her nose and mouth.

Joel remained calm.

She thought,

He must be used to this smell.

She appeared to be a normal civilian, and beside her was a small carriage.

Joel was about to leave.

"No, please… I'm lost. Let's walk together," she said.

Joel nodded.

They walked together for a while.

Joel asked,

"Did you push this carriage all the way here?"

She sighed with a disgusted expression.

"No. My horse ran away."

Joel smiled slightly.

"Are you mocking me?" she asked.

Joel said nothing.

Suddenly she covered her mouth.

"This smell will kill me…"

She ran aside and vomited.

After that, Joel helped her push the carriage, and eventually they reached the city.

She inhaled the fresh air and smiled.

"Thank you."

They then went their separate ways.

Joel returned to the guild.

Inside the guild, he approached the secretary again.

She frowned slightly.

"What is that smell?"

Joel replied,

"Ma'am, I found the herbs."

The secretary thought,

So quickly… for a first quest.

"Where did you find them?" she asked.

Joel answered,

"In a forest not far from here."

The secretary wondered,

Which forest?

No… it can't be the cursed forest.

"But they smell terrible," she said.

"Please go wash yourself. Then take your reward."

She handed him four silver coins.

Joel smiled proudly.

He thought he could continue like this.

Then the secretary suddenly asked,

"Are you blind?"

Joel calmly replied,

"Yes."

And he left the guild.
