Chapter 52 - Ch 52- Truth

Arata walked up to Accelerator and quietly looked at her.

He had always been more sensitive to the emotions of others than most of the students around him. Otherwise, he would not have been able to get along so well with Komoe-sensei and the others.

Although Accelerator's personality had been twisted almost beyond recognition because of the experiment, her original intention had never truly disappeared.

Deep within those bloodshot eyes that were overflowing with killing intent and rage, there was still a faint longing for the world of light.

"Hoo... I have never mocked anyone. You and I were never enemies to begin with. At most we were temporary opponents. My only goal is to save the Misaka Sisters. There is nothing more to it."

Arata sighed softly as he looked at Accelerator.

After what had happened between the two of them earlier, he found it difficult to attack her without hesitation. When it came to feelings, he had never been a careless or indifferent person.

Even though that ridiculous system had forced him to sacrifice most of his dignity, that instinct of his would never change.

"Heh heh heh. You don't even consider me your opponent."

"Stop joking around, you disgusting bastard. You're just afraid that someone else will reach Level 6 before you do, aren't you?"

Accelerator clenched her fists tightly while a despairing smile slowly curved across her lips.

"Level 6? I don't need to stop it or interfere with it at all. I will naturally reach that level within a year."

Arata spoke calmly while casually using his telekinesis to create an invisible barrier within a radius of one hundred meters, preventing any sound from spreading outside the area.

"You bastard..."

Accelerator gritted her teeth.

In the end, nothing had changed.

Absolutely nothing.

She was still the same as before.

The plan that she had long since grown tired of would probably come to an end here.

"Hey. Suzushina Yuriko. Since you can't defeat me anyway, why don't we just sit down and talk for a bit?"

Arata spoke with a faint smile.

Having a normal conversation with Accelerator was truly an extremely difficult task.

"Hehehe. Is this supposed to be the attitude of a victor after defeating me?"

"You scoundrel. I have nothing to say to you."

Accelerator revealed a disdainful grin. The murderous aura around her did not weaken in the slightest. In the dim night, she looked like a white grim reaper wandering through darkness.

She could accept defeat.

But she would never accept the arrogant attitude of this disgusting victor.

"It's about the true meaning behind the 'Level 6 Shift Project'."

Arata half closed his eyes as he spoke calmly.

"After hearing the truth, maybe the two of us could even become friends. After all, you have been completely kept in the dark about Academy City's real secrets."

"Ah? Ha. What did you just say?"

"That pretentious tone again. I have absolutely no interest in any of Academy City's secrets."

Accelerator sneered coldly before turning around.

The air around her carried the lonely and exhausted feeling of a defeated person preparing to leave.

She had already given up completely.

This experiment had already been ruined because of this shameless interference. There was no reason for her to ever return here again.

"You can keep those dolls. They're nothing but defective products. If you want, you can even sue them."

Her hands were clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white. If it were physically possible for a human to crush their own palms, her hands would probably have already been dripping with blood.

She had completely lost the will to live.

"That won't do."

Arata shrugged slightly. With a small motion of his hand, he used his ability to release the safety restriction that had been interfering with Accelerator's power and grabbed her arm firmly.

Then he spoke in a firm tone.

"What else do you want from me now?"

"Heh. Just kill me already. That way I won't remember this grudge in the future."

Accelerator slowly turned her head. Her eyes were filled with darkness, and a cold and sinister smile appeared on her lips as she spoke.

"No. I've never killed anyone before."

"But this time you have to listen to what I have to say. After you hear the whole story, what you choose to do afterward will be entirely up to you."

Arata smiled faintly.

He believed that Accelerator would definitely change her way of thinking after hearing the truth.

"Hmph. The more you talk, the more I want to tear you into pieces."

Accelerator spoke coldly.

"The so called 'Level 6 Shift Project' will never actually allow you to become a Level 6."

"It's nothing more than a cover for another plan being carried out within Academy City."

"If that plan were ever exposed to the public, it would lead to the complete destruction of Academy City itself."

"Because of that, the 'Level 6 Shift Project' must continue until August 20."

Arata spoke slowly.

Accelerator's expression gradually calmed down as she listened to these words that sounded almost absurd.

"What a ridiculous story."

"It sounds like some kind of bad joke."

"Your ability to make up nonsense is becoming more and more impressive. You're truly pathetic."

Accelerator's crimson eyes stared at Arata as she spoke with a mocking smile, clearly unconvinced.

"Maybe you don't believe me right now."

"But do you really think that esper abilities are the only kind of power that exists in this world?"

"Academy City would stand no chance against those mysterious forces."

Arata continued speaking calmly.

"Academy City needs a large number of Misaka Sisters."

"So they use the 'Level 6 Shift Project' as a convenient cover."

"That's all I'll say for today."

"Think about it carefully."

"If you want to know the truth, you can come find me anytime."

Arata spoke in a slightly mysterious tone.

If he simply told someone everything all at once, they would most likely assume he was making up an elaborate story.

But if he allowed them to think about the clues themselves and slowly connect the pieces together, the psychological effect would become far stronger.

Of course, whether Accelerator would actually think that deeply about it was another matter entirely.

After all, she had already lost almost all hope in life.

"Suzushina Yuriko."

"You will still come to the next experiment, right? Continue attending them until August 20."

"By that time, you will definitely step into the World of Light."

Arata said with a faint smile.

On August 20, the Misaka Sister production system would change completely. The remaining units would cease their current role and the project to create Last Order, the command center of the network, would begin.

"You disgusting bastard have no right to order me around."

Accelerator's pupils shrank slightly as her body trembled with anger.

"This bastard... can he really see right through me?"

"How did he figure it out?"

What I truly want is...

Damn it.

That bastard.

"Don't be so angry. Like I said before, we were never enemies."

Arata shrugged helplessly.

"I still want to tear you apart and grind you into filth on the ground."

Accelerator replied coldly.

"My time manipulation ability has already been exposed. I'm going to be in serious trouble soon."

"So I should leave first. Goodbye."

"Oh, right. About what happened yesterday..."

Arata suddenly revealed a mischievous grin.

"I suggest you stop binding your chest. It's not good for your development."

"Despicable bastard!"

The anger that Accelerator had barely managed to suppress instantly exploded again like a powder keg that had just been ignited.

"Goodbye!"

Arata glanced once more at Suzushina Yuriko's chest and waved with a smile before disappearing from the spot.

"Despicable bastard... that meaningless trick from yesterday..."

...

At the same time, the massive battle that had just occurred had already caused a huge commotion inside the Seventh Pharmaceutical Research Center, which had been monitoring the entire area in real time.
