In a bright office, a silver-haired man in a formal red gentleman's suit sat in a leather executive chair, gazing out through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
A bodyguard in black pushed the door open and stepped inside. The gentleman didn't turn around—he only spoke in Japanese with a strangely accented tone.
"What is it?"
"Mr. Maximillion Pegasus, President Seto Kaiba of KaibaCorp recently lost a Duel to a woman… and not just once—twice!"
Pegasus didn't respond. Only the golden iris of his left eye flared with a faint glow.
...
Kisaragi had now officially joined KaibaCorp. But because her relationship with Kaiba had been reported throughout the company by Isono, the manager in the game development division didn't assign her much real work. Mostly, she designed various support cards specifically meant to pair with Blue-Eyes White Dragon, at Kaiba's request.
She drew and drafted some of the designs from memory of her previous life, then handed them over to Kaiba.
Kaiba's office
Knock knock knock.
"Come in!" Kaiba said without looking up, continuing to process documents.
When Isono entered, Kaiba finally raised his head.
"What is it?"
"Yes, President Kaiba. Miss Kisaragi has completed some exclusive support-card designs for Blue-Eyes White Dragon."
Isono placed the design sheets on Kaiba's desk.
Kaiba scanned them—and a confident smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"I knew I wasn't wrong about her."
He handed the designs back to Isono.
"Get these printed into physical cards immediately. Six copies of each design. When they're done, deliver them to me and to Kisaragi."
"Yes, sir. I'll arrange it at once."
Isono turned to leave.
"Wait."
"Yes, President Kaiba?"
"Wasn't there a National Duelist Tournament that requested KaibaCorp send a representative?"
"Yes… but you rejected it at the time."
"I'm accepting now. KaibaCorp's representative will be Kisaragi Aoi. As for sponsorship fees—I don't care."
"Yes. I'll call the organizers immediately."
"One more thing," Kaiba said, voice dropping colder. "Are the documents the lawyers prepared ready?"
"They're ready. All that remains is Miss Kisaragi's signature. However…" Isono hesitated.
"However what?"
"I'm concerned that once the Big Five learn about this, they may react… excessively."
Kaiba snorted.
"Hmph. They've coveted the president's seat from the beginning. Good—this is the perfect chance to strip resources out of their hands. If they don't cause trouble, I'll allow them to remain in the company."
He flicked his hand.
"Now go. Get it done."
"Yes, sir!"
After Isono left, Kaiba drifted into memory.
...
"I want to enter the National Duelist Tournament," Kisaragi said.
"Going to 'farm rookies,' are you?" Kaiba scoffed. "If you can beat me twice, there aren't many Duelists in this country who can touch you."
"I only recently came to this city," Kisaragi said with a smile. "I just want to see what the Duelists here are like. Don't worry—I'm only using this tournament to test a few of my decks."
"Fine," Kaiba said. "Tomorrow I'll have Isono contact them. You'll represent KaibaCorp."
"Okay!"
...
Because of Kaiba's influence, Kisaragi entered the tournament without playing qualifiers, advancing directly to the Top 8.
The venue was packed. KaibaCorp was the largest sponsor, so Kaiba sat in the VIP seats watching the matches, with representatives of the organizers beside him.
"President Kaiba, thanks to your sponsorship we could secure such an excellent venue," the organizer said with ingratiating enthusiasm.
"It's fine. Someone from our company wanted to compete—so I came," Kaiba replied, eyes still fixed on the arena.
"That must be the person President Kaiba has taken a liking to," said a gentleman in red as he walked up and took the seat beside Kaiba.
"Maximillion Pegasus," Kaiba said, glancing sideways. "So you're interested too?"
"Yes! Anyone you approve of must be exceptional," Pegasus replied.
"I didn't expect even Mr. Pegasus of Industrial Illusions to attend this event," the organizer said, smiling.
Pegasus simply nodded.
At that moment, the arena lights went dark. Two spotlights snapped on, illuminating the center stage as the announcer appeared.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to today's broadcast! After rounds of selection, eight Duelists have emerged to compete for the championship!"
Applause surged through the crowd.
"Today's matches will narrow the Top 8 down to two finalists for tomorrow's championship. That means each Duelist may have to fight up to two Duels today—this is not only a contest of skill, but also of stamina!"
"Without further ado—Top 8 Match One: the representative of KaibaCorp, Kisaragi Aoi, versus the dinosaur-deck user, Rex Raptor!"
As the announcer spoke, Kisaragi and Rex Raptor entered from opposite sides of the arena, spotlights tracking their steps.
"Look—she's so cute!"
"Yeah! Silver hair, blue eyes, that slim figure… she's a goddess!"
The crowd erupted into excited chatter as Kisaragi appeared.
Yugi's home (watching on TV)
"Wow—Kisaragi's actually in the tournament too," said Anzu.
"Isn't this basically guaranteed 'seal-clubbing'?" Honda said. "She beat Kaiba. Everyone else is probably competing for second place."
"By the way, didn't Jounouchi enter too—and make the Top 8? Which match is he in?" Honda asked.
Anzu checked the newspaper bracket. "Jounouchi's match is the second one."
"Ever since he lost to Kaiba—and then saw Kisaragi beat Kaiba—he got fired up," Honda said. "He's been working like crazy to save up and buy cards…"
Then Honda's eyes widened.
"Wait—doesn't that mean Jounouchi will run into Kisaragi in the semifinals?"
"Yeah," Anzu sighed. "Let's just hope he doesn't lose too badly. This is a national broadcast—don't embarrass yourself in front of the whole country!"
"It looks like his best result this time will be Top 4."
Yugi—and the darker presence behind his eyes—kept staring at the TV, fully focused on Kisaragi's match.
