The sun hadn't risen properly when the preparation for House Valerius began. The bunker felt smaller than it had the night before.
Adrian stood in front of the bedroom mirror. On the bed lay a dark, expensive suit Lucian's guards had brought in. Adrian ignored it. Instead, he dug through the limited wardrobe Lucian's men had brought for him from his mum's old apartment. He pulled out a charcoal blazer and a clean white shirt. It wasn't bespoke.
It was a small rebellion, but it felt necessary.
He walked into the main room. Lucian was standing by the tactical terminal, his back to the door. He was already fully dressed in a midnight-blue suit that looked like it cost more than Adrian's entire life.
Lucian turned. His gaze swept over Adrian's choice of clothing. He didn't comment on the lack of designer labels. Neither did he tell him to change. He simply watched, his eyes tracking the way the fabric sat on Adrian's shoulders.
