Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 – Edge of Collapse

The Argonaut's alarms blared, vibrating through the hull. The void outside Elysium Colony shimmered with incoming thrusters—too many to count, and all converging on a single point: the colony itself.

Leon Hartmann gripped the Aegis controls tightly. "This isn't just a strike. He's coming for the colony—everything we've been protecting."

Mira Solenne in Valkyrie fired thrusters aggressively, scanning for the first wave. "Multiple units—he's coordinating them perfectly. It's like he knows exactly how we'll react."

Rika Hartmann in Bastion adjusted her targeting, voice steady but tense. "We have to hold the line. No gaps. He can't be allowed near the colony."

Rolf Brenner's calm, firm voice came over the comms. "This is the ultimate test of the Trident. Anticipate, coordinate, and execute flawlessly. One mistake, and the colony is lost. Trust in your training—and each other."

The first wave struck, black units darting through space with lethal precision. Energy beams ripped across the void, explosions lighting the darkness. Valkyrie slashed through the nearest attackers, her agility unmatched, while Bastion's twin cannons hammered incoming units with relentless force.

Leon maneuvered the Aegis with perfect timing, dodging and countering, his reflexes honed to a razor's edge. Every movement was calculated, every shot precise. The Vagan ace, at the center of the formation, was like a shadow weaving through chaos, striking unpredictably.

"He's here," Leon muttered, scanning the sensors. The black Gundam-class suit twisted through space, narrowly avoiding Valkyrie's daggers. Sparks flew as beams grazed its armor.

"Split formation!" Rolf barked. "Force him to react, to overextend. Push him into our trap!"

Leon executed the maneuver, flanking the ace with Valkyrie while Bastion covered the rear. The ace reacted instantly, launching a counter with blinding speed. Energy beams collided, thrusters screamed, and the void trembled with the intensity of battle.

For the first time, Leon saw a crack in the ace's composure—a fraction of a second where calculation faltered. He signaled Valkyrie and Bastion, and the three units converged in a perfectly coordinated strike.

The black suit twisted violently under the assault, forced to take evasive action. Sparks erupted across its armor, and one of the support units was destroyed entirely.

"Keep pressure! Don't let him regroup!" Mira shouted, weaving through debris and laser fire.

The battle reached a crescendo. Leon pushed the Aegis to its limits, Valkyrie flanking with precision, Bastion providing suppressing fire. Every move, every maneuver, every shot was a test of their training, of their unity.

The ace pilot, realizing he could not gain the upper hand, made a daring retreat into the shadows of orbit. Silence fell, broken only by the hum of engines and the crackling energy of spent beams.

Leon exhaled, chest heaving. "We held the line… but this war isn't over. Not by a long shot."

Mira hovered nearby, Valkyrie's thrusters glowing softly. "He's strong. Too strong to underestimate. But we survived. That counts for something."

Rolf's voice came over the comms, measured but weighty. "Survival is the first step. Growth comes next. You've adapted under pressure, coordinated perfectly, and held the colony. That is victory. But the ace will return. And the next time, the test will be harder."

Leon placed a hand on the Aegis' arm, feeling the familiar weight and presence of the machine. "Next time," he whispered, "we won't just survive. We'll break him. And this war will end on our terms."

Outside, the void stretched endlessly, stars glittering coldly and indifferent. But inside the Argonaut, a fire burned brighter than any light. The Trident had survived, adapted, and grown stronger. And when the Vagan ace returned, Leon Hartmann and his team would be ready—not just to defend, but to strike with unity, precision, and relentless resolve.
