Chapter 262 - 263 | My Neutrality

"I ruined my own day. Yours is collateral." She stepped past me without waiting for the invitation, which is the most Laurana thing she could have done, and her coat brushed my arm and I got a hit of something with amber in it under the smell of night air. "Where is your demon?"

"Asleep. She'll wake up if you insult her."

"Then she will wake up eventually."

Laurana crossed to the windows. The light came in hard off the glass towers and lit up the side of her face, and I stood there and looked at her the way I have never once apologized for looking at anyone.

Wine red hair, loose, still damp at the ends. Cheekbones you could open mail with. That mouth that spends most of its time delivering bad news to nineteen year olds who thought they were talented.

She shrugged the coat off and dropped it over the back of the chair.
