After Kaien finished eating at Temari's house, Temari personally walked him out.
She was worried that if Kaien stayed any longer, not only would he lose control—but she might too.
Just earlier, when they were in the living room, they had almost been discovered by Yoshino Nara.
Thankfully, Temari reacted quickly and avoided an awkward situation.
Yoshino watched Temari send Kaien away and sighed softly. She couldn't help wondering whether she should secretly continue playing with Kaien tonight.

The moment Kaien stepped outside, the system notification rang.
"Uh…" Kaien hesitated. Should he use them now, or save them for later?

"It's already pretty late. I should head home," Kaien said, glancing at the darkening sky.
With nowhere else to go, he figured he might as well return home and sleep.

Suddenly, a black shadow streaked through the air at high speed, like lightning.
"Hm?" Kaien frowned and followed it with his eyes.
Seeing it heading toward the Hokage Building, he muttered, "Who's sneaking toward the Hokage Building so late at night?"
Curious, Kaien changed direction and followed.
"Who's there?!" A crisp, youthful voice rang out, and a small figure leapt from the shadows.
It was a petite girl with short black hair, red pupils, and fair, delicate skin—like a porcelain doll. Cute, yet carrying a hint of heroic sharpness.
Kaien felt she looked oddly familiar.
"Who are you? What are you doing sneaking around so late?" the girl demanded, one hand on her hip, the other pointing at Kaien.
"Uh…" Kaien chuckled at her fierce-but-adorable expression. "Heh, little sister, wandering around so late—doesn't your mom worry?"
The girl puffed out her cheeks in annoyance. "I'm asking you a question! Why are you laughing?!"
"Mirai, what's going on?" A man walked over from the side.
"Brother Kaien?" the man blurted out in surprise when he saw him.
"Konohamaru? Long time no see!" Kaien recognized him immediately and smiled.
"Brother Kaien, it really is you!" Konohamaru Sarutobi said excitedly.
"Yeah, long time no see," Kaien replied warmly.
As Naruto's junior, Konohamaru was close in age to Kaien, and the two had gotten along well in the past.
They'd both attended Naruto's wedding, but with so many people around, they hadn't crossed paths.
"Brother Konohamaru, do you know him?" the girl tugged on Konohamaru's sleeve and asked curiously.
"Heh, Mirai, he's your Brother Kaien," Konohamaru said gently, patting her head.
The girl looked at Kaien with doubt. She didn't recall ever hearing of a Brother Kaien before—but if Brother Konohamaru said so, then he must be trustworthy.
"Is she Teacher Kurenai's daughter—Sarutobi Mirai?" Kaien asked with a smile.
He'd just been talking about her earlier in the day and hadn't expected to run into her at night.
"That's right," Konohamaru nodded. "Because of the special alert today, we're patrolling the area tonight."
"Isn't it too late to have someone so young on patrol?" Kaien frowned slightly.
"What's wrong with being young? I'm a ninja too, you know!" Mirai protested, glaring at him.
"I know it's not ideal," Konohamaru said wryly.
"But it's already late. I'm worried about her going home alone. I can't leave my post, and she doesn't want to go back either, so I let her stay with me."
Kaien nodded in understanding.
"By the way, Brother Kaien, why are you still out so late?" Konohamaru asked. "From the direction you came—were you heading toward the Hokage Building?"
"I was about to head home," Kaien explained, "but I saw someone rushing toward the Hokage Building and got curious."
"Then you probably saw Sasuke Uchiha," Konohamaru said. "He just returned and went straight there."
"Sasuke is back?" Kaien was startled.
"Yeah. He probably returned because of the special alert," Konohamaru nodded.
Kaien's heart sank.
With Sasuke back, would Sakura's old feelings resurface? He'd been so close to winning her over.
More importantly—where would he sleep tonight?
No. He absolutely couldn't let that happen.
"Oh, I thought it was a suspicious person," Kaien said calmly. "Since it's Sasuke, I'll head back."
"Alright. You two patrol safely," Kaien said, waving to Konohamaru as he turned to leave.
"Wait, Kaien!" Konohamaru suddenly called out.
"What is it?" Kaien stopped.
"Are you free to take her home?" Konohamaru asked, pointing at Mirai.

Kaien had been about to refuse—but with the mission issued, he had no reason to decline.
"Sure. No problem," Kaien nodded.

"Mirai, be good," Konohamaru coaxed, gently stroking her head. "If you don't go back, Auntie won't let me bring you out again."
"Hmph!" Mirai pouted, reluctantly letting go of his clothes.
