The tree using its branches grabbed him without giving him a chance to fight back.

The branches of the tree were slowly sucking his vitality, and spiritual energy. The only way to save himself is to choose wisely to increase his stats.
He put 25 ability points in strength. A total of 65 points of strength. with this much strength he can lift upto 2.5 tons of high density metal. Remaining points went to agility.
Using his strength he tore off the branches which were grabbing him, More and more branches tried to grab and squeeze him, its a futile effort in front of his strength. He was dodging and Evading while trying to get close to the tree.
In matter of time of time all branches of the tree were either torn or unable to move. Without any branches the tree was defenseless. the tree was unable to stop Caelan from getting closer to it.
In an attempt to stop the Approaching human, The tree tried to use it's roots. Unfortunately it was too late.
In a single blow Caelan killed the mutant tree effortlessly, as his strength is superior from the defense of the mutant tree.

While Caelan was killing his enemies Xu Zhi and Sara were escaping from various monsters.
They were not as lucky as Caelan. As they were not martial artist and also they don't have much combat ability, there was only one choice left, that is to flee until finding a shelter.
It's commendable that they didn't collapse in this unfamiliar and dangerous environment.
Running around for nearly 30 minutes, Xu Zhi's And Sara's stamina had hit rock bottom, they were unable move. Many monsters who were Chasing them finally saw an opportunity and pounced on them.
'It seems like we'll be dyeing here today. We're sorry, Caelan we weren't able to save you'. Sara thought while closing her eyes. She collapsed from exhaustion, as they were running for nearly 30 minutes.
Suddenly, numerous gunshots were heard. Xu Zhi was stunned by scene in front of him. The monsters who were supposed to be attacking them were lying dead in front them.
"Are you okay ?" A soldier asked him.
"It looks like you both are quite exhausted." said another soldier.
"She needs to go to hospital, she just fainted." Xu Zhi said in a worried tone.
"There won't be any hospitals working now, the best option right now is to take both of you the bunker".
"SOLDIERS!! Escort them to the bunkers". The Captain ordered in commanding tone.
"YES SIR". all the soldiers replied while saluting.
