Morning—
The sun hid behind the clouds.
Qinran got up, washed, and dressed. The apartment was quiet except for the soft sounds of the building waking up around her — pipes settling, distant footsteps from the floor above.
She walked to the bed.
"Wake up, Luoli. Time for kindergarten. Go brush."
"Mhm… okay…" He sat up, yawning sleepily, rubbing his eyes.
"Good boy."
She headed to the kitchen.
The food sizzled in the pan.The aroma of eggs and something savory drifted through the small apartment, filling the corners.
"Mom, I'm done."
"Good. I placed your clothes on the bed. Go wear them."
"Okay!" He ran off.
—
Later, after sending Luoli to kindergarten—
Qinran stood in front of Xingchen Tech.
Tall glass building. Steel edges. Pale reflections of a cloudy sky stretching across its surface. People moved in and out of the entrance with the quiet efficiency of a place that ran whether you were ready or not.
She took a deep breath.
First day as a corporate game dev ....again
She walked in.
—
Floor 7.
The elevator doors opened to the low hum of a working team — keyboards, quiet conversations, the occasional click of a mouse. Monitors glowed. Coffee cups sat half-finished on desks.
She stood in front of the team.
"Hello. I'm Qinran, a new employee. I hope to work well with everyone."
A woman leaned back in her chair. "Oh? You're the genius Team Lead Guo hired."
"Genius?" Qinran frowned slightly.
"You solved that backend bug we'd been stuck on for a week."
Ah
"I'm not a genius," she said calmly.
The woman laughed. "Sure, sweetie. Name's Han Ming. Call me Sister Ming — like everyone else."
"Okay. Sister Ming."
"That's your seat — middle row. Team Lead will come soon. We're starting a new project today."
Qinran nodded and sat down.
The desk. The monitors. The faint hum of machines running in the background.
She looked around slowly.
Everything felt… familiar And yet unfamiliar
She let out a small chuckle.
A second life really does come with a second office
—
A while later, Team Lead Guo entered.
The room shifted. Conversations dropped. Postures straightened.
It was the same man who had interviewed her.
"Alright, everyone. Listen up." He set a folder on the desk. "This is an important company project. One of the biggest we've taken on."
The room quieted.
"We're developing the world's first large-scale multiplayer online role-playing game." He paused. "Players from different countries will log in and play together in real time. Simultanously."
Qinran's eyes sharpened.
...open world and MMORPG
"No fixed storyline. No rigid class paths. Players choose their professions. They form guilds. They build the economy. Player-driven systems"
Murmurs spread across the room.
"Classless combat system. Open PvP zones. Large-scale battles."
Silence.
Qinran leaned back slightly.
Ambitious....Very ambitious
Her fingers rested lightly on the desk.
She said nothing.
But behind her eyes, something was already moving — old instincts waking up, familiar gears beginning to turn.
She had done this before....She could do it again
