I searched for Princess, my heart hammering against my ribs as the elevator climbed back up from the underground world. When the doors slid open, I stepped outside and let my eyes scan the lot. The night air was cooler now, but it didn't do much to settle my nerves. I finally spotted her by her car, just leaning against the metal with her head down.
"Hey, Princess, I was looking for you. Why are you here?" I said, walking toward her. I reached out, trying to hold her or just touch her arm, but she drifted away from me. She moved like I was a stranger, her body language turning cold and distant.
"What happened? Is it because of the underground race..." I asked, my voice trailing off. I was trying to figure out why she was so quiet, why the energy between us had suddenly shifted into something sharp.
She didn't say anything at all. She just stood there, staring at the pavement and avoiding eye contact like it was a chore.
