Two men in hazmat suits entered the room as I was changing into my hoodie.
I thought they were exaggerating at first. But I was reminded how dangerous I really am so I never bothered to ask.
They stood by the entrance, observing each and every move I made. Their suit shone under the fluorescent light. Every inhale fogged their masks slightly, a quiet hiss marking their breaths.
Whenever I look at them, they'd avoid me but continue to observe once I look away.
'Haa. This is uncomfortable.'
I grumbled. Rubbing the back of my neck in awkward discomfort.
"Hey," I asked one of the guys in the hazmat. "Have you seen Dav—"
Just then, the door burst open. The man in question appeared.
"Hmph! So you've missed me already."
'No. It's not like that. I just felt weird around them.'
"Still, you should've contacted me."
"Contact?"
"Seriously? They haven't given you your phone?"
"Ah, it was that?"
A rectangular box wrapped in black wrapping paper and a gold ribbon sat on the table across from me.
"It radiated suspicious vibes so I just left it."
"Oh come on, open it!"
'You're more excited than me, ya know?'
David draped an arm around my shoulder and pressured me even more to open the box. He was practically bouncing now.
'I can see a tail wagging behind him. If he had ears, he'd be a retriever right now.'
Overwhelmed by his constant "please," I hesitantly opened the box.
I had imagined scenarios in my head where a random ghost would appear, or a snake would pop out, or maybe a curse would latch onto me. But none of those happened… for some reason.
Ah, and finally, the content of the box!
'Oh. It was an ordinary phone packaging…? Huh?'
