The heavy Vanguard transport truck barreled down the main paved highway, its massive diesel engine roaring like a trapped beast.
Through the thick glass of the front windshield, the towering stone gates of the capital city were rapidly growing closer, framed by giant columns of ugly black smoke.
On the dashboard console, the red light of the encrypted military radio was still flashing wildly.
Raven's voice cut through the heavy static again, sharp and entirely serious.
"If you idiots don't turn that wheel right now, you're dead. There's a twelve man heavy execution squad sitting at the bridge checkpoint. They've already got their thermal repeaters warm, and they are painting your lane."
Talia jammed her boots down on the accelerator, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the oversized steering wheel.
"Lucien! Decide right now! What if this isn't Raven? What if the vanguard hacked our radio frequency and they're trying to bait us off the road?"
