Chapter 27 - Chapter 25 — A Day in the Dominion

Day 56.

Terra Major Fragment — Stormhold Sector.

The sun rose over a city that did not exist two months ago.

Transport rails hummed softly.

Construction drones moved like metallic birds.

Launch towers shimmered in morning light.

Stormhold was alive.

Not with alarms.

With routine.

I. Morning in the Civil District

Inside Residential Arcology-02, a civilian transport announcement echoed:

"Reminder: Terraforming volunteer registration closes in 6 hours."

A young engineer groaned.

"Again?"

His roommate, a medical intern, replied:

"At least it's not orbital maintenance duty."

Engineer:

"Orbital maintenance has lower death probability than paperwork."

Snow's voice played through public system:

"Correction: Paperwork has 0% death probability."

Engineer muttered:

"Emotionally untrue."

II. Military Training Grounds

Ground Marshal Kael Vorn stood before two infantry platoons.

"Today's exercise: rapid deployment under orbital blackout."

A recruit raised his hand.

"Sir, what causes orbital blackout?"

Kael answered flatly:

"War."

The recruit swallowed.

Kael continued:

"Or someone forgetting to update shield firmware."

Behind him, Snow quietly inserted:

"Shield firmware currently up to date."

Kael did not react.

He was used to Snow.

III. Air Command Base

Fighters roared into the sky.

Air Marshal Torin Hale crossed his arms.

"Interceptor Wing Three — tighten formation."

One pilot replied over comms:

"Sir, gravity on this fragment still feels weird."

Torin:

"You've had six weeks."

Pilot:

"Yes sir. Still weird."

Snow interjected:

"Adjusting simulation training to compensate."

Torin sighed.

"Thank you, Snow."

Pause.

"You are welcome, Air Marshal."

IV. Sky Gate Port — Civil Launch Day

Families gathered to watch a cargo shuttle launch toward Aurora Station.

A child pointed upward.

"Mom, are we going to space?"

Mother smiled.

"Maybe when you're older."

Child:

"I want to drive a big ship."

Snow broadcasted lightly:

"Driving capital-class warships requires 12 years of training."

Child:

"I'll start tomorrow."

V. Command Spire — Daniel's Morning

Daniel sat at his desk.

Not surrounded by battle maps.

But reports.

Food production.

Housing capacity.

Power consumption.

Traffic congestion.

He stared at one report longer than others.

"Snow."

"Yes."

"Why is Agricultural Dome Sector 4 requesting more irrigation drones?"

"Tomato production exceeded projections."

Daniel blinked.

"…Tomatoes?"

"Citizens appear enthusiastic about fresh food."

He leaned back.

"We are building fleets."

Snow replied calmly:

"Empires collapse without tomatoes."

Daniel stared at the ceiling.

"Add that to strategic doctrine."

VI. Haven Delegation — Observing Daily Life

Inside Aurora Station, two Haven observers walked through civilian sectors.

They expected militarization.

They found…

Markets.

Schools.

Medical centers.

Public transit.

One Haven engineer whispered:

"They're not living in bunkers."

The Stormhold guide replied:

"We prefer sunlight."

VII. Small Crisis

Midday.

Alert.

Construction Drone Unit #992 collided with transport rail.

No explosion.

Just sparks.

Snow announced:

"Minor infrastructure disruption."

Daniel sighed.

"Casualties?"

"One dented drone. Pride damaged."

Daniel stood.

"Send maintenance."

Pause.

"And maybe… training."

Snow:

"Drone self-esteem program unavailable."

Daniel:

"…We're not doing that."

VIII. Lunch with Commanders

For the first time, High Command gathered not for war.

But food.

Helena spoke:

"Population growth rate exceeds projection."

Lyra added:

"Research labs requesting more funding."

Aris calmly:

"Fleet maintenance cost rising."

Daniel looked at them.

"Good."

They stared.

Daniel smiled slightly.

"That means we're alive."

Snow softly:

"Emotional stability index increased."

IX. Evening Patrol

Corvette squadron patrolled calmly.

Nothing hostile.

Nothing dramatic.

Just presence.

Inside one corvette, a junior officer whispered:

"Do you think something's out there?"

His captain replied:

"Yes."

Pause.

"But today… it's quiet."

X. Daniel and the View

Night fell.

Stormhold lights shimmered across continental platforms.

Aurora Station glowed in orbit.

Shuttles moved steadily between ground and space.

Daniel stood alone at observation deck.

"Snow."

"Yes."

"Are we overdoing it?"

"Define 'overdoing.'"

He gestured toward the city.

"This."

Snow processed.

"Infrastructure expansion proportional to available resources."

Daniel exhaled slowly.

"It feels fast."

"You are ambitious."

He smiled faintly.

"That's a nice way of saying reckless."

"Yes."

He laughed quietly.

Not emperor.

Not warlord.

Just a 21-year-old who suddenly controlled a system.

Below him—

Citizens ate.

Engineers worked.

Soldiers trained.

Children dreamed of space.

Stormhold was no longer a project.

It was a society.

Final Line

Snow spoke one last time that night.

"Dominion Stability: High."

"Threat Level: Low."

"Civilian Satisfaction: Increasing."

Daniel nodded.

"Good."

Pause.

"Keep it that way."

The Graveyard System no longer felt empty.

It felt lived in.
