Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Himeko's Room

St. Freya Academy was an organization established after the Second Honkai War. It was founded by Theresa after she withdrew from Schicksal, prompted by the cold-blooded actions of Overseer Otto Apocalypse. The original purpose of its creation was to adopt children displaced by the Honkai and train them as Valkyries or other staff members to fight against the Honkai threat.

Of course, if those children did not want to face the Honkai once they reached adulthood, they were free to leave St. Freya Academy and live a normal life. The academy would not demand reimbursement for the costs of their upbringing.

Theresa's goal was to create an organization full of human touch, distinct from the Schicksal led by Otto. Since St. Freya Academy was born from the former Far East Branch of Schicksal, and because of Otto's indulgence toward Theresa,

he had not revoked her high-level access to the Schicksal database even after she established her own organization. He even frequently provided her with aid. Consequently, Theresa's St. Freya Academy had never encountered any significant setbacks.

Under the protection of St. Freya Academy, the Far East had developed quite well. However, there was one thing Theresa hadn't anticipated there weren't actually that many children displaced by the Honkai.

In the case of small-scale Honkai outbreaks, various cities already possessed sufficiently advanced early warning and defense measures to prevent families from being destroyed. As for large-scale outbreaks...

prior to this Third Honkai War, no major outbreaks had occurred in the Far East. Furthermore, because children generally have a lower adaptability to Honkai Energy than adults, St. Freya Academy had actually been in a state of lacking students for a long time.

Theresa didn't mind this. If the day ever came when St. Freya Academy could no longer recruit fresh blood, there were only two possibilities: either humanity had been driven to extinction by the Honkai, or the Honkai had been eradicated by humanity.

If it were the former, Theresa would be among the extinct; if it were the latter, nothing could be better. Theresa would happily announce the permanent closure of St. Freya Academy.

Currently, the vast academy had only about fifty students, all unified into a single class. They were of similar age and skill level, and most were mediocre. Unless they used Artificial Stigmata with significant side effects like Schicksal did,

none of the students aside from the class monitor would be able to become an A-rank Valkyrie capable of standing on their own against the Honkai.

Now, with the arrival of Hua Yi, Kiana, Mei, and Bronya, Theresa naturally had to make some arrangements.

According to the data collected by St. Freya Academy, Hua Yi was an ordinary high school student from Tachikawa Academy. He had briefly served as an intern at ME Corp for a few days, had little social interaction with his classmates during school, and had long appeared listless. Aside from that, there was nothing special about him.

After reading those files, Theresa felt that the intelligence personnel under her command should probably beg for forgiveness.

A guy who could single-handedly face a Mega-class Honkai Beast during a large-scale outbreak, hard-counter Anti-Entropy Titans, and knew so much about the Honkai was evaluated by intelligence as an "ordinary high school student"?

If the whole world... no, if every student at Tachikawa Academy were as "ordinary" as Hua Yi, then humanity would hold a massive advantage in the battle against the Honkai.

Because of the responsibility Hua Yi had displayed throughout the process and the shocking sacrifices he had made, Theresa didn't intend to press him for too many details for now. She chose to trust him, just as he had trusted her before.

As for Kiana's identity, Theresa already knew it and didn't need further investigation. Of the remaining two, Raiden Mei was the daughter of the former CEO of ME Corp, Raiden Ryoma, while Bronya was the adopted daughter of the current CEO, Cocolia.

Behind ME Corp was Anti-Entropy, Schicksal's arch-enemy. For St. Freya Academy, which had broken away from Schicksal, they weren't allies either.

Was this an Anti-Entropy conspiracy?

Because of Mei's performance as the 3rd Herrscher, Theresa decided to tentatively view this as Anti-Entropy's attempt to "pull a Herrscher over to the human side," and withheld any exaggerated wariness for the time being.

However, she naturally couldn't just assign Mei to live with the ordinary students of St. Freya Academy. To avoid making the girl feel she was being treated differently, Theresa made an immediate decision:

Raiden Mei, Kiana, and Bronya would all move into Himeko's home. There were several empty rooms there, and given Himeko's strength, she wouldn't be helpless even if something happened with the 3rd Herrscher.

Under Theresa's lead, they entered a residence. Looking at the scene before her, Kiana remained silent for a long while before speaking up.

"...Is this room a trash can?"

For the boisterous Kiana to say such a thing, the room was clearly extraordinary.

The floor was cluttered with scattered books and shoes, several jackets were tossed haphazardly onto the sofa, and a pile of empty beer bottles sat in the corner. There were also large reserves of daily necessities like shampoo and bread, presumably stocked up to reduce the number of shopping trips.

Cold sweat broke out on Theresa's forehead.

"It's as messy as ever. Oh well, this is the world of an older single woman for you."

"Hey, is it really necessary to mock me like that?"

Himeko walked out from the back of the room, holding a duster for cleaning and wearing a mask. Judging by her appearance, she had been doing housework before everyone arrived. Just how exaggerated had this room been before?

Realizing this, Kiana, Mei, and Bronya fell into a speechless silence. Hua Yi, on the other hand, felt a slight sense of regret.

He had expected to see some "special" sights, like underwear scattered around or something.

Himeko, who was somewhat concerned about her image due to Theresa's comment, naturally noticed everyone's expressions. Kiana and the others' reactions were expected, but what was with Hua Yi's look? Was this guy thinking about something inappropriate?

Himeko wasn't the shy type, and she had intended to say something to test him, but considering the current occasion, she let it go.

"So, Principal Theresa, you aren't planning on having everyone live here, are you? The others are fine, but Hua Yi is a boy, you know?"
