After dinner, Kiana's resistance toward Chiba Academy seemed to have waned significantly, likely due to Raiden Mei's presence. She was eager to go and see the school for herself, but eventually gave up on the idea since both Hua Yi and Raiden Mei refused to give their consent.
After all, Kiana wasn't a student of Chiba Academy. They couldn't simply let her wander around the campus, let alone visit Raiden Mei's dormitory.
Soon, deep night arrived.
Hua Yi looked out through the dormitory window at the pitch-black sky and checked the time.
It was Friday, eleven o'clock at night.
In any given week, which day was the easiest for people to grow lax? Hua Yi believed it was Friday. With the weekend and rest days approaching, even the personnel left on duty would likely be less vigilant. According to the information Hua Yi had gathered earlier, this relatively minor ME Corp branch had gone a long time without a single incident.
Coupled with the fact that he had already mapped out the locations of the security cameras and prepared various tools for infiltration, Hua Yi decided it was time to act.
Although the Third Honkai Impact had not yet occurred, these were things that needed to be finished before the disaster struck. If the branch's weapon research lab truly housed any powerful armaments, Hua Yi couldn't be certain they wouldn't be transferred before the eruption. If there were none, he would need to come up with a different plan.
Donning a specially made black trench coat designed to mask human body heat from infrared cameras, Hua Yi put on an alloy mask capable of reflecting various detection beams. He buckled a utility pouch containing his gear around his waist and slipped out of the dormitory.
This outfit had cost him a significant amount of money. He hadn't bought it as a finished set; instead, he had purchased bulk materials and crafted the coat and mask himself to avoid drawing any unwanted attention. It was a pity that ordinary people had no legal way to purchase weapons against the Honkai, otherwise Hua Yi wouldn't have had to go to such lengths.
Hua Yi did not head directly for the ME Corp branch. Instead, he took a long detour around the building, approaching from a direction far removed from his own dormitory. He paused for a moment to study the tower before letting out a silent, knowing smile.
Hua Yi never intended to walk through the front door. During his days as an intern, he had discovered that the windows on the upper floors were not made of specialized glass and could be easily broken.
He had brought a glass cutter with the intent of scaling the building and entering through a window, but looking up now, he saw that more than five windows on this side of the high-rise were actually wide open.
He moved to a higher vantage point nearby and used binoculars to observe. Once he confirmed those open windows weren't a "trap for the unwary" but simply a result of the staff forgetting to close them,
Hua Yi moved to the base of the building. Relying on physical prowess that far exceeded common imagination, he scaled the exterior with a few agile leaps, moving from the ground to the fourth floor before vaulting through an open window into the room.
The floor was shrouded in darkness. No lights were on, and no security personnel were in sight. For Hua Yi, this was like a fish returning to water. Standard cameras were useless in this level of darkness, and the infrared cameras with night vision were perfectly countered by his specialized trench coat.
After a thorough search, Hua Yi who had reached the ninth floor via the emergency stairs—finally confirmed that the weapon research lab was located on the twelfth floor. However, the emergency stairs ended at the ninth; any further ascent required using the elevator, as there were no additional fire escapes.
ME Corp was truly a heartless corporation, showing such little regard for the safety of its employees.
Hua Yi grumbled inwardly. He had no intention of taking the elevator to the twelfth floor. Whether it was potential identity verification procedures or surveillance equipment inside the lift, either would expose him prematurely. Until he reached the weapon research lab, Hua Yi was determined to remain undetected.
He entered an office on the ninth floor and opened a window. The biting night wind rushed inside immediately; the building was high, and the wind was fierce.
He wondered if someone with his physical constitution would actually die if they slipped and fell from this height.
The ME Corp building was quite grand, with each floor standing nearly five meters high. Hua Yi was currently nearly fifty meters above the ground, and the twelfth floor was well over sixty.
Hua Yi took a deep breath and climbed out of the ninth-floor window. He glanced upward, confirmed there were no additional alarm sensors installed on the exterior, and continued his climb.
Finally, he reached the twelfth floor.
The area was still devoid of illumination, though many mysterious devices were active, their indicator lights blinking in various colors. The weapon research lab was indeed here, but the door was an alloy structure that clearly possessed formidable defensive strength. It was thick, and the walls flanking it were even thicker.
Compared to the integrated walls, it seemed the door installed later would be easier to break through with brute force.
Hua Yi made his decision quickly. He took one last look at his escape route to ensure he could flee at maximum speed before delivering a heavy kick against the alloy door.
BOOM!!
First came the thunderous roar, followed immediately by a piercing alarm. This was exactly as Hua Yi had expected. Without a moment's pause, he charged into the research lab. Surprisingly, the room didn't hold much; aside from various pieces of equipment, there was only a single light blue greatsword resting in the center.
Perfect. He hadn't come for nothing.
Hua Yi smashed the reinforced glass display case with raw force and pulled the greatsword out. He strapped it to his back, concealing it beneath his voluminous trench coat. Feeling his body suddenly grow much heavier, he felt a surge of joy rather than alarm.
He moved swiftly, returning the way he came. Vaulting out of the twelfth-floor window, he didn't even bother going back to the ninth-floor stairs. Relying on his sheer physical durability, he slid all the way down from the twelfth floor to the ground. He sustained a few minor scrapes, but they were inconsequential.
Just as Hua Yi reached the ground at a terrifying speed, the security personnel inside having heard the alarm finally rushed to the twelfth-floor research lab via the elevator. Looking at the mangled alloy door which had been torn
open by some extreme physical force rather than explosives the security captain swallowed hard. She was supposed to lead her team in a search immediately, but she froze. She knew that she was no match for an intruder capable of such destruction. She was afraid.
"Contact the President immediately," the security captain reported. "Our Nagazora Branch weapon research lab has been breached. The enemy is extremely powerful."
