Chapter 113 - System Upgrade and Homeland System

The day after settling the Night Demon Knight, Chen Ye finally received the system upgrade he had been waiting for.

Just as he was intently focused, the system's voice echoed in his mind:

*Ding!*

*System upgrade successful!*

*New feature added: Homeland System!*

Hearing this, Chen Ye's spirits soared. He eagerly opened the Homeland System interface, but was immediately baffled—the screen was completely blank, with nothing displayed.

"What's the purpose of this Homeland feature? Why is there nothing here?" Chen Ye asked.

*Could this be like that game from a certain company? A Homeland for stealing crops?* he mused inwardly.

As if sensing his confusion, the system explained: "Host, you must first choose a location to designate as your Homeland. Once selected, that place will become your Homeland."

Chen Ye suddenly understood. He needed to select a suitable location to establish his Homeland first.

Curiosity piqued, he continued: "And after it becomes my Homeland, what functions will it have?"

The System continued its explanation: "This Homeland possesses the function of infinite expansion. As long as the Host grants permission, your family members, no matter where they are, can return to this Homeland at any time."

Chen Ye instantly understood. This was essentially a massive interdimensional lounge and storage room.

He immediately grasped the true power of the Homeland System. It wasn't just a cross-dimensional lounge and storage room, but a vital link connecting his family and friends.

Countless possibilities flooded his mind. Imagine Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Harry Osborn, the second Green Goblin, from the Spider-Man Universe, visiting Chen Ye or other family members at any time to chat, or even to collaborate on missions.

Such scenarios filled Chen Ye with both excitement and anticipation.

However, he also knew the Homeland System wasn't without its limitations.

He continued, "Are there any restrictions or limitations to this Homeland System?"

The System replied, "After the Host has fully established the Homeland, please check the settings yourself."

Chen Ye nodded, his heart brimming with curiosity and anticipation.

Chen Ye immediately replied, "Then let's choose the first floor of the restaurant as our Homeland."

He couldn't think of any other suitable location. As for whether the restaurant would continue operating as a Homeland, Chen Ye didn't give it much thought.

After all, he wasn't relying on it for income.

The current Chen Ye was truly not lacking in money.

Chen Ye imagined a fully armed superhero team chatting in the restaurant. If an ordinary person walked in wanting to eat and saw a large group of people dressed in bizarre outfits, they'd probably be scared away.

Alternatively, an outgoing and fearless person might assume Chen Ye and the group were just cosplaying.

The System then prompted, "Confirm Homeland address?"

Chen Ye said with absolute certainty, "Yes, this is it."

In the next instant, a light emanated from Chen Ye, enveloping the entire restaurant.

"Ding! Homeland location confirmed. Please check it yourself," the System announced.

"Wait, can the Homeland location be changed after it's been set?" Chen Ye suddenly remembered a crucial question.

"Yes, you can re-establish the location by spending 10 Family Points," the System replied.

Chen Ye was instantly annoyed by the system's response. *This is outrageous!* he thought. *Ten Family Points would be enough for ten consecutive gacha pulls!* He resolved to never change his Homeland's address.

Then, Chen Ye examined the Homeland interface and discovered he could expand the Homeland's space, rearrange the layout, and change furniture.

However, all these actions required Friend Points.

*This system is obsessed with Friend Points,* Chen Ye cursed inwardly. *It's forcing me to make friends!*

Looking at his stash of over 200 Friend Points, he pondered for a moment before deciding to spend 20 points to expand the Homeland's space. With a light tap, the dining room's area instantly expanded by 20 square meters.

Since the dining room wasn't crowded at the time, no one noticed.

Chen Ye marveled at the 20 square meters that had materialized out of thin air. When he stepped outside the dining room, he found no visible changes—everything looked exactly the same.

*So, only the internal space expanded, while the exterior remains unchanged,* he realized.

This meant the dining room could be expanded infinitely. *One day, I might even be able to play soccer or conduct scientific research inside it!*

"It's not a total loss," Chen Ye muttered to himself. "One square meter for a little Friend Points. At least it's not a square foot."

Big Apple City typically uses feet as its standard unit of measurement, and a square foot is less than a square meter. If it had really been a square foot, Chen Ye would have been ripped off.

Continuing to examine the Homeland interface, Chen Ye discovered that people from other parallel universes could only remain within the Homeland's boundaries and couldn't leave its perimeter.

Moreover, the Homeland's external area was fixed and couldn't be upgraded.

If he wanted to bring family members from other parallel universes over, he would still need to use the Exclusive Skill on his right.

The only feature Chen Ye found satisfactory was that authorized family members could return to the Homeland at any time, anywhere. This meant that if any family member came under attack, they could immediately teleport back to the Homeland.

This function effectively meant that Chen Ye no longer had to worry about the safety of his friends.

"That's it? Absorbing the Space Gem's energy and this is all we get? Is the Space Gem too weak, or is the System just that lame?" Chen Ye complained after reading the Homeland's description.

Chen Ye had initially been excited about this upgrade. While the Homeland section was decent, it paled in comparison to the lottery.

Muttering to himself, Chen Ye clicked through other interfaces, hoping to find some surprises elsewhere. Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he discovered a brand-new skill:

**Impenetrable Defense Lv 1**: Creates a protective shield within a 100-kilometer radius of the Homeland. 10000/10000

This shield skill was exactly what Chen Ye needed. With it, he no longer had to worry about the safety of Hell's Kitchen.

"System, how is the shield's energy replenished?" Chen Ye asked curiously.

"It automatically regenerates 100 points every 24 hours. Alternatively, absorbing energy from Space Gems can double the regeneration rate," the System replied.

After hearing the System's explanation, Chen Ye made up his mind.

It seemed he couldn't return the Space Gem to Black Ludan after all.

He had always kept his promises, but this time, he might have to break his word. After all, the protective shield was too important to him.

After reviewing all the upgrade options, Chen Ye decided to authorize all his family members and then summon them to his Homeland.

He wanted to let them know about this magical feature and also use the opportunity to gather everyone together so they could get to know each other.

Come to think of it, Chen Ye had never hosted a proper family gathering before.

This was the perfect chance to make up for that oversight and give everyone a chance to bond.

Who knew, perhaps under different universes, they could even organize a massive material exchange and start cross-temporal trade.

"It's time for a grand reunion," Chen Ye said, his voice filled with anticipation.
