She walked back into the pack house as fury almost choked her. Mother, who was coming down the stairs to meet Lunara, gave her a long, deep look.
"What are you still doing here?"
"Lunara…"
"Get out!" Mother interrupted her.
"Mother…she…"
"Out! Out! Out!" Mother continued yelling and couldn't allow her to speak. Lunara snapped her fingers; two of her guards put their hands under her arm and dragged her out of the pack house. She tried to free herself from their iron grip but she could not. It was as though she was being pulled away by a programmed machine. They pushed her out of the pack house and closed the transparent gate violently. She staggered and fell to the floor. The cab driver dropped her books, ran to her rescue, and took her out of the road.
"I need to call for help right away," he said, and began to call the emergency number. Her knees were seriously bruised.
"Don't worry, you will be fine," he said, looking sideways for help. Lunara's guards that were at the gate kept throwing glances at them through the transparent gate. None of them cared to help her.
After a few minutes, an emergency response team came and offered first aid treatment to stop the bleeding. She was taken down to the healing den for proper treatment.
She called Brooklyn with the driver's communication device and she rushed down to the healing den with her belongings. Tears came out of her eyes when she saw her red face and bruised knees.
"The mysterious he-wolf you got mated to did this to you, right?" Brooklyn asked.
"No, Lunara's guards."
"What!! What the hell is wrong with Lunara Greens? Has she gone totally insane? I wished the royal kingdom would see through that devil! She is not good for the moon Prince! She can't rule this great territory with him! Power is intoxicating her and that's a sign of a bad leader."
"Brooklyn, you will go with me."
"Is he the mysterious he-wolf your pack-kins sold you to?" Brooklyn asked, looking at the cab driver that was outside the ward with his hands akimbo, probably thinking about his car that had been towed away.
"No"
"Who is he?"
"A cab driver. Lunara's guards towed his car away."
"What?"
"Calm down, Brooklyn. Please, call him."
Brooklyn stood up and beckoned the driver.
"I want to go back and talk to your pack-kins," he said as soon as he walked into the unit.
"No, please, they are not going to listen to you. I'm going to talk to my mate and see if he will help us. Just drop your number, and she will give you mine. I'll call you in the moonrise."
The middle-aged he-wolf dropped his device number on a small side table. Brooklyn wrote Emma's device number on a piece of paper and gave it to him. He took the paper and left the healing den. They fixed their gaze on him until he was out of the ward. Brooklyn quickly turned and faced her.
"Mate, Emma; you married him legally?"
"Brooklyn, I have no choice."
"Does he look like his sibling?"
"They are not siblings. Mr. Richard is working for him."
"Who is Mr. Richard?"
"The white-haired."
"Wow! I guess he is a rich wolf then."
"Yes, but I think he is on a revenge mission or something….he is so mysterious."
"Why do you think so?"
"He looks and behaves like a nice wolf. I'm going, to be honest with you, Brooklyn; I like him. I feel charged and euphoric whenever he is close to me."
"That's nice, and I hope he feels the same for you."
"But there is a problem."
"Talk to me."
"When I look at him, I feel like I'm going to see myself in the middle of something I can't handle. There is something about him I can't lay my hands on. I want to work on my novels, make a lot of silver and get ready for anything that may surface next moonrise."
"I don't blame you for feeling that way; you just got mated to him. Have you met him before the mating happened?"
"Yes"
"What! Where?"
"I refused to massage him while working at Silver Muscle Haven Therapeutic Den… and got fired by the head beta."
"Oh my moon goodness…Brandon!" Brooklyn screamed. She nodded, biting her lips. What in the moon goddess's name was he looking for on the howling union … ? No…no… I think someone in your pack house is working for him. Someone tipped him off, Emma!"
"Who? And what did he or she tend to achieve?"
"Listen, you just need to be very careful. No sex, no pregnancy; did you get that?"
"He wanted to sleep with me last moon-fall."
" Emma, no!"
"I did not."
"Good, keep saying no to him until we find out what he wants from you and the person that tipped him. You are right, Brandon is up to something! Emma, are you sure you are safe?"
"He is nice….I'm… not sure though. Physically, I'm safe with him; emotionally, I'm not sure. I'm just worried about my heart. I'm falling gradually for him unconsciously, and I don't want to."
"Emma, seal your heart up until we find out who tipped him."
"I think Lunara did; he knows my sibling. No…no, she did not."
"Emma, I'm going to talk to Faith. Together we will find out who did."
"Do not stress yourself; nobody tipped him," she sighed. "Brandon is so mysterious."
"Oh my moon goddess, I'm worried about you, Emma," Brooklyn said, holding her right hand.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'm going to stay a bit far from him henceforth. I hate myself for allowing him to kiss me in front of his guards this moonrise."
"Emma!"
"Brooklyn, you need to see his boldness. I couldn't say no to him."
"Please, stop moving close to him until we find out who told him about the howling union website. He can't be everywhere; he is not a spirit. Someone told him before you even knew Lunara created the profile!" Brooklyn insisted.
She was discharged after a few hours. She cleared the bills with Brandon's credit card. Brooklyn accompanied her to the Nightclaw pack estate and fell crazily in love with the environment.
Paige walked up to them immediately they alighted from the cab, took her things and began to walk towards the main entrance of the pack mansion.
Brooklyn stood still and kept looking around. She was quite bewildered. They had a walk around the pack estate and she showed her the beautiful lake, the French garden which complemented the French chateau and territory site.
"I love the cool colors, the geometric planting beds and the stone works, " Brooklyn said excitedly, looking at the foundation of the garden which was laid with cobblestones and concrete. The beautiful stones appeared on all the paths and created a magical ambiance. Brooklyn kept cutting the leaves as they walked round the garden. She followed her to her bedchamber and stayed with her for a few hours before leaving.
"Remember what I told you," Brooklyn said as she was about to enter the cab Bernard called. She nodded, looking at Brandon's private flying beast that landed on the helipad.
"Brandon?" She asked, looking up.
"Yes, I'll… call... you... tomorrow," she stammered, waved at Brooklyn and walked hurriedly back into her chamber. She noticed Brooklyn frowned when she stammered. She was obviously worried and couldn't wave back at her. She's trying everything possible to avoid Brandon.
