Chapter 4 - Chapter 4:News

"What news?" Robert asked her. He knew something bad had happened to him. He felt different, but still felt the same. His arm was still stiff and sore from using Dyrnwyn at 25% manifest.

"Sir, your scan reads that your body was reborn? You may be 19, but your body's stem cells and white brain matter are the same as those of a newborn. What did you do to yourself?" She said with tremendous worry in her voice. She had been a nurse for a long time and had rarely seen these results in a 19-year-old.

"Well, all that really happened was -" Robert proceeded to tell her all that happened to him "I was told that I basically don't have a soul, then a girl jumped on me and bit my ear, then a dude stabbed me in an alleyway, I forced Dyrnwyn to manifest, and then I think I died, then I woke up and walked to here."

"Wait, wait, you are telling me all that happened to you today?" She was flabbergasted. All this in one day. Robert was just a child in her eyes, but the world had been so chaotic and cruel to this boy. "Yep" was his response to her.

"Robert. I am going to say this as your doctor, even if I am only a nurse. You need to slow down. Your mind has been pushed to its limit, and you were heavily injured. There is no medical reason you should even be alive"

Robert stared blankly at the nurse before getting curious, "Then how am I alive, nurse?" The nurse just stared at Robert, biting her tongue and then answering, "If I had to guess, I would say Dyrnwyn saved you."

{How the hell did a concept save me?}

"That does not answer my question. How did a Physical Concept that I summoned save me from death?" The nurse smirked at that and raised her hands as if to surrender, "I have no idea."

Robert slammed his head against the ice-cold wall. IT was insane to think that a Doctor or nurse does not know how he was saved from death.

"You are useless," Robert said coldly, but that did not bother the nurse; if anything, it made her want to tease him more. "Well, I can offer you some answers, but ONLY if you instate me as your personal Doctor," she said, her voice steady and proud.

"How can you even be my Doctor if you are only a nurse?" Robert asked, but she instantly responded with "Well, that is a story for another time, but know that I am a licensed doctor and am just a nurse because the Hospital can't afford more than 251 doctors." She softly smiled as she spoke, but her voice held a hint of jealousy, like maybe she really wanted to be a Doctor.

"I don't know. I don't even know your name, and why do you want to be my Doctor? I can't afford to pay you," she chuckled at his weak but true answer. Doctors are expensive, and personal ones even more, but she was so interested in Robert that she felt she had to do it.

"My name is Ava Stark, and the reason I want to be your personal Doctor is that I am interested in your power and what the future holds for you." She sounded delighted in her confession, as if this was all fine and logical.

{So I got one girl who is obsessed with me and one who wants to dissect me.}

"So Doc, you want to open me up and see what makes me tick?" Robert asked a bit sarcastically, but with genuine fear. He had been through a lot and was scared he might end up nothing more than a lab rat.

"No no no. I would never just open you up; you would heal too fast. I just want monthly check-ups on you and take note of your progress and change." She sounded so silly in her wording and kept waving her hands, but that word 'progress' made Robert shiver.

"What do you mean by 'progress'?" Robert asked. "Because silly. No normal human can survive what you survived; your survival was near-conceptual level. " She said that last part with such calm, as if discussing the weather, but the power of concepts is nothing to joke about.

Robert jumped from his chair and gripped the table " Y-you are joking, right? There is no way I had a conceptual-level survival. It was just a stab that was healed by Dyrnwyn's passive ability." Robert sounded flat and unconvincing in his answer to his survival, but he knew that he should be dead.

"I think I have a better answer. When you used Dyrnwyn and then died, it saved you. Most Physical Concepts are not manifested with their sheath, since they are considered a waste of brain power. When you manifested Dyrnwyn and then were about to die, it used you as its sheath. Your empty Soul Slot sucked up Dyrnwyn, and you are now its sheath." She sounded so calm and direct. Ave's explanation was so simple that even a child could understand it.

"So I am fused with Dyrnwyn?" Robert cautiously asked, and she responded with "Yes and no. You and Dyrnwyn are still your own things. It's just that the power of Dyrnwyn will always be with you unless it starts to deem you unworthy," but that just gave Robert more questions than answers.

Robert tried to ask her more, but she turned him down "That was enough info for you. I will answer your questions at our next check-up. Go home and rest up, I heard tomorrow is going to be your academy's Grading day." She stood up and guided Robert out of the Hospital.

They both waved at each other, and Robert finally went home. His day was long, brutal and informative, but tomorrow is going to be interesting.
