Chapter 95 - The Overlord of the Viridian Forest

Bonus chapter

[It hit!]

[Damn… guess that saying really applies: I can fail countless times, but you only get one mistake.]

[The gap is still too big. Pichu turned the fight into a Souls-like battle—this really was pushing it too far.]

[Not good! Another hit!]

Seeing its Discharge land on Pichu once more, Elekid—though panting heavily and clearly exhausted—was elated in spirit.

Seizing the opening.

The remaining electricity surged again around the twin horns.

Thunder Shock!

Chen Mo immediately sensed Elekid's intent, but Pichu's condition was already terrible. It was obvious that it could no longer keep using Quick Attack.

"In that case—Pichu, we'll use Thunder Shock too!"

Despite severe stamina depletion, the Electric-type energy in Pichu's body was still abundant.

At Chen Mo's command, Pichu grit its teeth. Crackling sparks burst from its rosy cheeks.

Two Thunder Shocks shot forward like parallel rivers of lightning.

Boom!

The violent energy clash forced Chen Mo to raise an arm to shield his face from the raging wind.

Dust billowed everywhere.

Moments later, as a gust swept through—

Two figures emerged on the battlefield.

"Pichu…"

Chen Mo stared anxiously at the small figure in the distance.

At last—

After taking three consecutive hits, even with Electric-type damage being halved, the toll was too much for the already-drained Pichu. It collapsed first.

Elekid swayed as well, nearly falling right after, but its remaining strength let it barely stay standing. Its eyes were filled with disbelief as it stared at Pichu.

That… was Thunder Shock?

At that moment, Elekid suddenly heard a warning cry from above—Pidgeotto's voice.

But it wasn't aimed at Elekid.

Chen Mo turned his head, following Pidgeotto's alert. Far off in the sky, a small black dot had appeared.

"That is…"

In the distance—

A Nidoran♂ drinking at the Greenway River seemed to sense something. It glanced up at the sky, then immediately called to its companions. Together, they fled into the nearby forest.

One by one, wild Pokémon vanished from open areas—there was a flurry of movement, then sudden silence.

The black dot in the sky grew larger and larger.

Chen Mo finally saw it clearly.

A dragon-shaped creature, primarily blue and purple, with a thick mane of black fur around its neck. Three pairs of wings spread across its back, and three heads—two of which formed its arms. Its entire form was grotesque and terrifying.

"Hydreigon!"

Chen Mo's pupils shrank sharply.

He finally understood why the forest had erupted into motion only to fall silent again—the Pokémon were fleeing from the evil dragon slowly flying toward them.

"A-Hui, Yi-ge, hide—now! Don't go to the car, head into the forest! Pidgeotto, you too!"

At Chen Mo's shout, A-Hui and Yi-ge immediately nodded.

Seeing the little Xatu… no, the small Natu struggling to keep up behind him, Yi-ge paused for a fraction of a second, then extended a hand in front of it.

On the other side—

As Chen Mo's group moved, Elekid glanced at Pichu, who was still struggling to rise, then quickly bolted into the forest.

It liked challenging the strong—but that approaching Hydreigon was different.

"Pi…"

Through hazy consciousness, Pichu also saw Elekid retreat.

Comparing their states, Pichu already understood.

It had lost.

Footsteps sounded nearby. That familiar warm embrace returned. Unconsciously, Pichu clutched Chen Mo's clothes tighter as tears slipped from its eyes.

Chen Mo understood how Pichu felt.

Even with the boost from the Light Ball, Elekid's experience far surpassed Pichu's. Against an opponent whose strongest move was still just Thunder Shock, the gap was simply too wide.

This wasn't something a few days of training could make up for.

"Mo! Over here, hurry!"

A-Hui's anxious shout came from the forest. Chen Mo scooped up Pichu and ran toward him.

Now wasn't the time to dwell on it. Chen Mo glanced at the Hydreigon drawing closer in the sky and hurried into the trees.

"Mo, I grabbed this potion from the car while running—use it on Pichu!"

Taking the medicine A-Hui handed over, Chen Mo murmured his thanks and quickly began treating Pichu's injuries.

Hydreigon arrived.

Even from hundreds of meters up, its presence pressed down on them like a mountain. Hiding in the forest, Chen Mo and the others still felt overwhelming pressure.

A-Hui felt the Caterpie in his arms breathing faster and faster.

That unprecedented tension and fear flowed through Chen Mo's group, then through Yi-ge's camera, straight to every viewer watching.

[What is that Pokémon… wherever it passes, everything goes silent…]

[I've been watching since Mo started explaining Metapod, and this is the first time I've ever seen him look this serious.]

[That pressure… there's only one answer. A legendary Pokémon!]

[Whatever it is, I just hope it leaves soon. I'm terrified they'll be discovered—this is nerve-wracking!]

The three quietly tracked Hydreigon's flight path.

Then—

The Hydreigon, which had been drifting forward, suddenly stopped. Its gaze fell on the off-road vehicle parked in the clearing.

"Mo…"

A-Hui looked nervously toward Chen Mo.

Chen Mo shook his head slightly, signaling him not to act rashly.

At this point, drawing Hydreigon's attention would spell absolute doom for them all.

There would be no chance of survival.

All they could do was pray it would leave.

Thankfully—

Perhaps because it had never seen such a strange object as an off-road vehicle in the forest, Hydreigon lingered only briefly. Soon, it resumed its flight, heading farther away.

Only then did the three of them finally exhale, exchanging looks of pure relief, the unmistakable expressions of having narrowly escaped death.

"We can't wait anymore. I'm moving the car to the campsite I mentioned earlier—now. By the way, Mo… what exactly was that dragon? That was terrifying."

Though shaken, for A-Hui this was also an experience unlike any other.

No matter what, he knew he'd never forget that terrifying Pokémon.

Chen Mo looked up at the clear blue sky. Hydreigon's silhouette was long gone.

"That Pokémon's name is Hydreigon. And if nothing unexpected happens… it's probably the apex predator of this Viridian Forest."
