Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Horseshoe Overlook, Part 3

Reiner had retrieved the Broken Pirate Saber, on his way to Saint Denis. He had to meet with Guido privately, to prepare for the eventual transfer of power.

Catherine Braithwaite and her inbred children, the Gray's, Angelo Bronte, and Leviticus Cornwall weren't long for the world.

They'd be lucky if they survived longer than the year. Despite the accord with the Gray's, Reiner wanted to seize control of Ambarino, New Austin, West Elizabeth, Lemoyne, and New Hanover.

He'd start by becoming a landowner. Then after a couple of years he'd run for the post of Lemoyne Congressman, a few years later he'd make a bid for Lemoyne Senator, with the end goal of a presidential election victory. He had a long way to go before all that however. Clemens Point, Clemens Cove, Radley's Pasture, and Clemens Coast were just an excuse right now. Controlling that Coastline would be vital in the future acquisitions in Lemoyne and New Hanover, and acquiring Radley's Pasture gave him a place to set up a public house. From which he could fence off the coast from the property line to the border. He'd looked into it a little while ago, and while it would be quite expensive, it was worth it, that stretch of coastline would be about six thousand dollars to buy outright, while Clemen's Point outright was about forty-five hundred, and Clemens Cove was twenty-five hundred dollars, while Radley's pasture would be around a thousand plus eighty dollars for the Water Rights and twenty dollars for the timber rights. Acquiring the Water rights for Clemens Coast would amount to twelve hundred dollars, while Clemen's Cove would cost around eight hundred for the water rights, and Clemens point would cost around nine hundred for the water rights.

Put together, plus timber rights added in on top of the purchasing of the land outright and the Water rights to just the Clemens part of it, was going to cost him around sixteen thousand and seven hundred and fifty dollars. Adding in Radley's Pasture together with Water and Timber would cost him an additional forty six hundred dollars. Which rounded the figure off to roughly twenty one thousand and three hundred and fifty dollars. Pricey as fuck, but in the end it would be worth it.

While it was extremely expensive, he knew it'd pan out. Because the first purchase of land he buys was a moderately sized stretch of about five hundred and seventy acres. And more to the point, it was in the state of his birth. Spending a few years on the frontier, before returning home with a large sum of wealth for the time, which was but a drop in the well of his true wealth? That was a tale that would win him a seat in Congress.

As for his total wealth… Once a month he collected a small portion of his true wealth for daily expenses, and personal spending. The rest ended up in a highly secure vault in Saint Denis. At this point, his letter should be arriving at Pierre's place, so Reiner planned to extract his public wealth from Lemoyne National Bank in Saint Denis. Word would get around that one of the Bank's more notable clients was withdrawing substantial funds. Though to what end, was the question many would ask. Guido would find out, and know he was in the city. At which point, Guido would send one of his Captains to ask for a meeting. They'd then meet at the usual place.

Théâtre Râleur.

Guido had a private box in the upper level. He and Guido would meet there to discuss business on occasion. They hadn't met in a couple of years, so it would be a reunion of sorts.

--------------------------------

It'd been almost twenty years since Tavish Gray had seen the face of Captain Edward Reiner. Almost twenty years since he'd seen the face of his first son. The boy knew nothing of course, the lads mother had been given a considerable amount of money to claim him as the son of a plantation hand named James Reiner who'd died when the Braithwaite's attacked back in forty-five when the feud broke out for the second time.

It would have been a huge scandal back then if it got out. He was engaged to - as it would later turn out - quite the disappointing woman. Opinionated and Barren. The former he could deal with, the latter was unacceptable. And she was eventually quietly replaced by a distant cousin from Kentucky, who gave him Beau and six daughters.

Regardless, he'd kept track as best he could of his firstborn. He left no clear trail beyond having the richest bank account in Lemoyne National Bank in Saint Denis and a forty-five percent stake in the Cripps Trading Company. Whatever his son was doing, he was depositing several thousand dollars in cash a month. He was richer than the Gray and Braithwaite's in 1805 put together.

Well, richer in regards to money, not in influence or connections. Still, with Beau turning out to be such a disappointment, perhaps it was time to formally recognise his indiscretions.

--------------------------------

Guido Martelli fucking hated Angelo Bronte. It was that hate that led to him agreeing to the deal his longtime business partner had offered up. Bronte would die very soon, as would Guido's rivals.

In exchange the support of the Braithwaite family would be cut at a time that Edward decided upon, and he would open up the distribution of the new liquor to prime establishments across the American West. Martelli would receive a ten percent tax on the moonshine when it eventually crossed into Saint Denis in exchange for also giving some smuggling jobs, some courier jobs, and some robbery jobs. In order for this deal to work, Edward needed two things that Guido would need to do to facilitate this deal on his end. One was to have a shipment protected and delivered to Clemen's Cove where Edward and two associates were waiting. The second thing would be coordinating with Donal O'Driscoll to assassinate Dutch Van der Linde. Guido would supply the weapons, and Donal and Flaco the men.

Edward was playing a long and dangerous game. Hopefully it would be far more entertaining than the performance he was watching at the theater.

Just because he knew how to speak and could understand English didn't mean he could make heads or tails of this shit.

--------------------------------

After leaving Théâtre Râleur, Reiner took a train to Rhodes, where he informed the General he'd return to Rhodes in about a week's time to meet with the real estate man. From there he travelled by train to Emerald Ranch Station. He then proceeded to go hunting. He didn't use a bow very often, but this time he would if only because he planned to get some rabbits and turkey as well as a deer. His saddle was customised to have additional places to tie small game animals instead of just two. In total he could tie six small game animals onto his saddle, three on each side. He would bring a feast tonight for the gang.

Give Pearson some rabbits, turkey, and venison meat to add to the pot of stew he makes. Make it delightful and edible, instead of edible gruel.

Here we are, Chapter 7. Don't have a whole lot to say, except that Reiner's eventual plans for the Legacy of the Gray Family will be altered once they're gone. Makes the plan to deal with them and the braithwaites quite ugly to be honest. Ah well, it's for a good cause.

Kind of…
