Chapter 107 - When Heaven Remembers

The quiet courtyard room on the second floor remained calm, the soft lantern light casting gentle shadows as Xu Chen sat with Tian Rán comfortably in his arms while Yue Ning stood close with Tian Hào leaning slightly against her side. Their voices were soft, their presence restrained, yet the space itself felt complete.

Far beyond the mortal realm, within the unseen order of this world, the Heavenly Dao suddenly trembled.

It was not a disturbance of power.

It was something far deeper.

"Father."

"Mother."

Those simple words echoed not in sound, but in the very laws that governed existence. The Heavenly Dao froze, unable to process what he had just perceived. His awareness instantly focused on the small courtyard room within the capital.

He saw it clearly.

The little girl in Xu Chen's arms, clinging to him without restraint.

The young boy standing beside Yue Ning, his calm composure softening only in her presence.

Their voices had no hesitation.

No doubt.

Only certainty.

The Heavenly Dao's thoughts shook.

Father… Mother?

For a brief moment, confusion filled his existence. Then, like a flood breaking through restraint, memories surfaced—records etched into the very fabric of the world itself.

He remembered.

The day Xu Chen was born.

That year, the land had suffered under a long drought. For years, not a single proper rain had fallen across the kingdom. Crops had withered, rivers had thinned, and even the spiritual veins of the land had weakened.

Yet on the day Xu Chen came into the world—

Rain fell.

Not a storm, not destruction, but a steady, life-giving rain that covered the entire land. It fell without thunder, without wind, as if the heavens themselves had gently opened.

And within that rain—

A dragon's shadow soared across the sky.

It was not fully visible, not something mortals could clearly see, but the Heavenly Dao had witnessed it without doubt. A presence ancient and supreme had acknowledged that birth.

At that time, he could not interfere.

He could only observe.

Then—

Yue Ning.

Her birth had shaken the world even more profoundly.

On the day she was born, the skies cleared completely, and a radiant light spread across the horizon. Spiritual energy surged, yet instead of chaos, everything fell into perfect harmony.

And above the heavens—

A phoenix soared.

Its cry echoed silently across existence, a sign not of power, but of absolute balance and grace.

Dragon and phoenix.

Two existences that should never appear lightly within a single world.

Two births.

Two impossible signs.

At that time, the Heavenly Dao had already felt something was wrong—or rather, beyond his understanding. These were not beings born under his laws.

They had descended.

Now, looking at the present moment, everything aligned.

Those two were never ordinary.

And the children before them—

The Heavenly Dao's awareness trembled.

If they called them Father and Mother so naturally, then there was only one truth.

They were the children of the Supreme Heavenly Dao and the Supreme Heavenly Empress.

For the first time since his existence began, the Heavenly Dao felt shock.

Not fear.

Not resistance.

But something close to reverence.

He did not delay any longer.

His presence gathered and descended, not forcefully, but carefully, as if afraid of disturbing something sacred. He appeared within the courtyard space, his form faint yet carrying the weight of the world itself.

Inside the room, Xu Chen's gaze shifted slightly.

Yue Ning's hand paused on Tian Hào's shoulder.

They had already sensed him.

Tian Rán lifted her head slightly from Xu Chen's shoulder. "Someone came."

Tian Hào's calm eyes turned toward the faint figure. "The one in charge of this world."

The Heavenly Dao did not look at the children first.

He lowered his head.

Then, with complete respect, he bowed deeply.

"This humble Dao greets the Supreme Heavenly Dao… and the Supreme Heavenly Empress."

His voice carried no hesitation.

Only certainty.

Tian Rán blinked, then tilted her head. "Oh, he knows."

Tian Hào remained silent, simply observing.

Xu Chen did not respond immediately, his expression calm as always, as if such recognition meant nothing to him.

Yue Ning spoke instead, her tone gentle. "You remember."

"Yes," the Heavenly Dao replied. "The rain that returned life to the land… the dragon that crossed the heavens… the phoenix that brought balance to the world… I could not understand then."

His voice lowered slightly.

"But now I do."

Xu Chen finally spoke, his tone quiet yet absolute. "We are not here as that."

"I understand," the Heavenly Dao answered immediately, still bowed.

Tian Rán leaned comfortably against Xu Chen again. "He's very serious."

Tian Hào added calmly, "He is bound by his role."

Yue Ning said softly, "You may rise."

Only then did the Heavenly Dao straighten, though his posture remained respectful. His gaze briefly moved to the children, the earlier shock replaced by clarity.

"They came for you," he said.

"Of course," Tian Rán replied.

"We were curious," Tian Hào added.

The Heavenly Dao did not question further. There were things beyond even his right to ask.

Xu Chen looked at him once. "Continue your duty."

"Yes."

There was no command, yet it carried unquestionable authority.

The Heavenly Dao bowed once more. "This one will not disturb further."

His form slowly faded, his presence withdrawing carefully, as if afraid of overstepping even slightly.

Before disappearing completely, his awareness lingered for a brief moment.

Not on their power.

Not on their identities.

But on what he had witnessed.

A father holding his daughter.

A mother with her son.

A family.

Then he was gone.

Inside the courtyard room, nothing felt different.

Tian Rán stretched slightly in Xu Chen's arms. "He talks too much."

Xu Chen said nothing.

Tian Hào looked at Yue Ning. "He won't tell anyone."

"No," she replied calmly. "He knows what must remain unspoken."

Tian Rán smiled. "Good."

Xu Chen adjusted his hold on her slightly. "Eat."

"I was about to," she replied immediately, reaching for the food again.

Tian Hào sat beside Yue Ning, quiet and composed.

The moment passed as naturally as it came, leaving behind no trace—except in the awareness of the Heavenly Dao, who now understood that the two he governed under were never part of his world to begin with.
