Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Long before they became known as creatures who went into isolation or more so hiding," the woman began softly, her voice smooth, "they soared the skies, dominated it even." The child beside her shifted under the heavy furs, eyes wide, reflecting the firelight. "They belonged to them." She lifted her gaze slightly, as though she could see beyond the ceiling, beyond the world itself.

"Dragons."

The word lingered as the child eyes glimmered. "They were not destructive beasts, as the stories now claim," she continued, her tone dipping just enough to carry weight. "No… they were will made manifest. Power given form. Creatures that were brilliant, intelligent and most of all, majestic"

A faint gust slipped through the room, and for a moment, the flames bent unnaturally. They soared beyond the clouds, their wings could part storms, their roars shaped the very air.

The child leaned closer. "Did they breathe fire?" The woman smiled faintly "Fire… was the least of what they could do." Some say they spoke in a lost language and others call them calamity class creatures.

"Calamity class?" The child's voice echoed

"Calamity class are given to creatures with the power to wreak havoc on a nation or a continent" the woman replied. "So are dragons bad?" The child shifted closer, pulling the furs of clothing tighter around themselves. "They were majestic creatures, they didn't live by our rules or bound by our restraints, all powerful creatures of land and the skies."

"If they were that powerful, why are they in hiding now?" The boy's curiosity peaked. "They say the humans tried to hunt them down, they also say the dragons ascended to a different realm…but the truth? Well no one knows" the woman explained. "How come you know so much about dragons, mother?" The boy asked. "Because Mori, that is who we are. It all started with your great great grandfather, who was the first of his name. He was an elder dragon, his blood has flowed through every generation of our family and even in you mori." Her hand rested lightly against Mori's chest. Mori's eyes were now gleaming in awe. "No one has been able to fully unleash our dragon's bloodline, the closest has been your grandfather. But due to how potent dragon genes are, eventually it'll fully overwhelm the human half." Her voice was still soft . "Where is grandfather mother?…" "you shouldn't worry about that Mori."

"Mother, Will I be as close as grandfather?" Mori asked as she was getting up. "Yes Mori, because you are special. If anyone can do it. It'll be you." She said gently. He tightened the heavy furs around himself as his thoughts swirled. The woman chuckled softly before standing from beside the bed."But that's enough for tonight." She leaned down slightly. "It's time to sleep." Mori let out a quiet groan. "Already?" "Yes, already. I have to check on your younger brother as well." She tucked him in properly before gently patting his head.

"Goodnight, Mori." "Goodnight, mother…"

The woman smiled faintly before turning and leaving the large chamber behind. The halls outside were quiet, staggering pillars lined up in multiple directions, mounted on them were crystal lights. They lit up the surroundings alongside the moonlight. she made her way toward the main building where she and her husband stayed.

Inside, her husband stood near the window with a drink in his hand, staring out into the dark night beyond. His expression was distant, lost in thought. The woman approached him silently, wrapping her arms around him from behind, she rested her head on his back as her bosoms pressed softly against his back as well. "You're thinking again, you shouldn't burden yourself with so much thoughts" she said softly. "I know, annot. It's just…it's been a year, no words whatsoever." He sighed. "He's your father, he'll he fine, now come rest your head." She said patting the left side of the bed.
