Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Foreign Familiarity

Outside the gate was felt like complete fantasy.

It was hard to deny any emotion of familiarity, even when I knew It was something I saw for the first time.

Looking at how late it was getting, I ran through the streets. The former bustling and lively streets was slowly thinning.

But, the feeling of live all around felt fake in a world that should have been destroyed and flooded by corruption.

Passing corners and shortcuts, I got back to the house. Seeing it, made my heart shudder again.

Runes popped for a moment before vanishing again...

It was getting dangerous.

I grabbed the handle and pushed the door open. A broad back was all that could be seen a few meters from the door. Whoever it was, grasped his mother tightly, both of them were in tears as if reuniting after several years.

The moment his mother noticed, i lost control over my body again.

The person turned around, revealing a foreign middle aged faced.

There was a large scar on his face, but even with it, it couldn't taint the warmth that stretched across his face.

He knelt down on one kneel, and had a welcoming look on his face.

Unintentionally, my body lunged, so fast it seemed like i moved completely without restraint.

I stared desparately at his face from within, but there was no clear change on his face .

‡Did you really miss me that much.

I stayed silent, before responding with a Sobby voice.

I was still holding him tightly, when Mia step out of her room.

Rubbing her eyes still unaware of what was going on, the moment she looked up, she broke into tears.

"Dad"

---

When everything cooled down, both me and Mia had to leave and stay in our rooms.

Mom looked really bothered, so the moment I took Mia inside, I merged with my shadow, and hid as i listened.

‡ Everything Is going well, the defense of the city as improved quite a lot, so if things stayed like this, I might be able to return for good.

The moment he stopped, the woman who I never knew personally but the owner of this body did spoke in a way that shocked me.

Anger brimming in her voice she said

‡ I let you go even when ¥¢¥^¢€ was just two years old even when I knew how dangerous it was, it was your responsibility, so there was nothing I could do.

But, I can't help but feel scared. Knowing you will die.

The lord of the city fights with you now, but what if he changes his mind .

And if, a strong nightmare we're to appear like that day, it would be the end.

In this world, where there is no longer any where safe anymore.

If I lose you too, it would be the end. Less and less people are chosen.

This city is the last safe place in this world, you and the rest of the soldiers fight against nightmares, i can't sleep at night knowing how you might be suffering, the nobles all live in the outer regions. Yet, they do nothing to help. Only the lord helps out.

I'm tired of living like this , Mia barely knows you.

I've been thinking about this for a while, but there hasn't been a chance to say it.

Let's Leave.

Night's body grew weak in an instant, the conversation was still going on , but, he got more info than he thought he would.....

It made no sense, but, it felt frightening in itself.

The city was the last safe place in this world

There were seekers in the city

There was some sort of lord of the city

Runes popped up after listing all I learned.

17%]

I knew why the synchronisation increased, but I was too afraid to say it.

I got up, and moved back to my room.

Lying down on the bed, things inside flet familiar and foreign at the same time.

Clothes, books and all sorts of things. ..

Looking at my hands. I released four incredibly black stones and six soul cores.

The black stones were made of the shell of the spiders I killed.

Keeping them safe beneath the bed, I summoned the cleaver.

It's reddish blade made the surroundings feel tainted.

Up into now, I purposely didn't activate the second enchantment, mainly because it would drain all the aen i could use and endanger me. .

But, since I was here, there was no reason not to.

I gripped the hilt, before tapping into a vast amount of aen in the surroundings.

Runes popped up.

[Do you wish to activate the second enchantment]

It was the first time I was using a dormant enchantment.

«There were two types of enchantments that all chronicles could possess.

Dormant and Active enchants

Dormant could be used freely.

Like the [Sharpened edge] and [Morphing Steel] enchantments if the Forgotten blade. They didn't require any aen unless it was to strengthen the enchantment.

On the other hand are Active Enchants.

They were on a completely different level from dormant.

They required a vast amount of aen, and defiled all the laws of physics.»

That was all I knew, still.

Yes

All the aen I could use drained in an instant, yet, it felt insufficient.

Another set of runes popped up.

[You have reached the maximum amount of aen a seeker can use.]

[Your soul is greatly weakened]

[Your body begins to break]

My head ached terribly, it felt like I might die. The pain went on and on, almost making me scream, but unfortunately, I was in no position to make even the slightest noise.

My vision grew dark rapidly, I felt like something else was seeping into me.

And then, another rune popped up.

[Effects of the title"Aen sensitive Soul" grows rapidly]

[Your soul as been strengthened greatly]

The pain stopped, and everything returned to normal.

Soon, I saw another rune.

[You have created an elixir]

I stared down. A small vial in my palm. I stared at the cleaver, it's colour was lighter than before.

It was hard to hide my excitement. But then, my vision went blank.
