Chapter 56 - 56 SWAN

Her scream scattered her cold expression.

She felt like she was the one who's wrong for all of this.

Why pity her.

Just why?

She was like a woman who had lost everything.

For her, fighting was the sole reason of her existence.

But why pity her for something she loved to do.

Unohana surged in anger at the man before her.

She gripped the hilt of her sword higher.

She won't let this man ever question her, she won't let this man have her katana.

She pulled her sword back.

But Maki was applying 100x strength with his four arms that were holding the blade of her katana.

Maki doesn't know how to properly fight with a sword and how to fight one who uses a sword.

But his abilities weren't normal.

Not at all. The physique of the very first Hokage, a reincarnation of Otsutsuki bloodline, the unique trait of Santa Teresa Resurrección, and the More More devil fruit. Just combining the three abilities was enough to overpower Unohana, but he was an amateur and he didn't know anything about the true scale of power he had because of his ignorance.

But he was using everything he knew and how to apply it to the fight.

He saw that the woman was using greater force to take her sword.

So applying more strength would be a great choice. And while she was distracted, the wood branches below and behind her came rushing to Unohana's body.

The wood coiled around her feet, her waist, her full arms, and even her neck.

She was totally incapacitated.

Maki saw the woman was angry at him. She was still forcing her way out, and he could feel that it required more chakra just to hold her.

It wasn't an ideal type where he was going to enjoy and go crazy and act cool. His life was on the line. And his role?

He was about to test that.

Unohana was still struggling to break out from the wood binding.

Maki was still holding the bloodied blade of Unohana.

And the sword was still corroding his hand; skin and muscles would dissolve, but it would heal also.

He then looked at the woman before him.

Then he looked at the sword.

"What now?" he asked himself.

"What's my role here?"

Maki looked at the woman again, who was now calmer. She wasn't forcing her way out; she was just there, her eyes cold as ever while he was looking at her.

She opened her mouth, and with her dying and desperate voice, she said, "You win. Now end this. It's my loss. Take my life."

It was barely a whisper, but Maki heard her.

Those words were like a reverse scale for Maki. He got angry at this woman who really gave up her life for such a thing. Just because he won, just because of this fight, just because she wanted.

Maki didn't know what he was feeling right now. If his role was just to end her, right here, right now.

But can he really kill someone?

He undid his Resurrección. It slowly faded in yellow particles and molded back into its original massive crescent moon blade.

His clothes were tattered with many slices.

But there were no wounds left on his body.

And the red liquid blooded katana he was holding also returned to its original silver blade.

He walked slowly toward Unohana.

His expression couldn't be seen because his head was lowered.

Then, when he approached the woods coiling to her, she was suddenly rose up to meet Maki's face.

Then Maki raised his head and looked into the deep dark blue eyes of the woman.

Unohana also stared back at him.

She didn't know what to feel in this very moment. Her memories ran through her mind: how she loved to fight, her excitement, her beating every opponent in her way and being the victor.

But she never imagined that someone would show pity toward her, even though she came to kill him.

She saw Maki's hand was raising, and she knew this was the end of her life.

Then suddenly, her mind wandered to a crying girl she found on the street, she was crying and looking for food, how she took care of her until she grew up, and the reason she really wanted to change.

She whispered, "I'm sorry, looks like mom is going to leave you too."

Tears flowed from her eyes.

She closed her eyes, waiting for her end, accepting her fate.

Then—

A sound echoed through the chamber —

PaAaaaAaaaaaAaaaak

Unohana was startled. She opened her eyes and saw the man's right hand outstretched.

Then she felt an itching pain in her left cheek. Her cheek turned red.

Maki slapped Unohana.

And it was so strong that the slap echoed literally.

Maki wasn't finished. Using his hand, he grabbed Unohana's collar, then pulled it toward his face, and shouted at her,

"Then don't fucking waste your life, you bitch! There was someone waiting for you, and you want to die? Are you fucking nuts? And you wanted me to fucking kill you, are you turning me into some fucking murderer?"

Unohana just stared at him. She was looking at his ruby eyes.

And she stayed silent.

But Maki wasn't letting this woman go. He shouted again,

"Hey, didn't you hear me? Answer me, your fucking bitch!"

The grab on her collar was getting stronger. He was pulling her closer to his face until their foreheads were leaning on each other.

He continued,

"What are you looking at, ha! Answer me!"

Maki then tilted back his head, then brought it down to Unohana's forehead.

Baaaaaang—

"What, you're not going to answer me!" he said.

Then he repeated his action, tilting back his head and slamming it into her.

He was really pissed now, but then he smelled something familiar. A pink-like mist appeared surrounding him.

And he was slowly feeling drowsy, really sleepy.

But before he could close his eyelids,

He slammed his head one more time into Unohana.

And he said,

"Remember this, bitch. Don't ever—ever play with your life, or else I'll hunt you even in hell if you ever die..."

He said his final words to her, and his control over the woods was released.

Unohana fell to the ground, and Maki's head was still leaning on Unohana's forehead.

They both fell to the ground like swans in a pond.

Enjoying the serenity.
