Chapter 10 - A Curious Observer

"Sofia, I couldn't bear to see you with him," he confessed, his voice barely a breath against the wind. Before Sofia could process the raw emotion in his tone, Cable pulled her into the deep shadows of a secluded alcove. His eyes locked onto hers, burning with a fire that left her breathless.

Without a word, he leaned in, and their lips met. It happened so suddenly that the world around Sofia seemed to shatter. Initially, his kiss was fierce, fueled by the simmering jealousy and the fear of losing her. It was a kiss of possession, so intense that Sofia could hardly draw breath.

Gradually, Cable pulled back, his forehead resting against hers. Sofia took a long, shaky breath. As her heart found its rhythm, she didn't step away. Instead, she reached up, her fingers intertwining in the hair at the nape of his neck, and pulled him back to her.

This time, the kiss was different. It was soft,

lingering, and filled with a tender passion that spoke of soul-deep connections. Cable wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her so close that their heartbeats seemed to merge into one.

As they broke apart for a brief moment, Cable's eyes searched hers for a sign. Her cheeks were flushed a deep rose, and her eyes sparkled with an undeniable affection.

"Sofia, I think I'm falling for you," Cable whispered, his voice trembling with the weight of his confession. "I am starting to truly like you, Sofia. Do you feel the same?"

Sofia's heart raced. In answer, she pulled him down to her once more. This second kiss was like a gentle breeze after a storm—melodic and sweet. It felt as if the world had ceased to turn. The cool evening air brushed against them, the clouds drifted lazily across the darkening sky, and the setting sun bathed the couple in a warm, amber glow.

When they finally parted, a soft smile played on Sofia's lips. She looked into his navy blue eyes and asked, "Have you found your answer?"

Cable's gaze was filled with pure adoration. He smiled, his voice a low murmur. "Yes... I have my answer. I think I knew it the moment you kissed me back."

His hands gently framed her face, his thumbs stroking her skin with infinite tenderness. "May I have the privilege of calling you mine, Sofia?"

The rhythmic sound of footsteps shattered the intimate cocoon Cable and Sofia had built around themselves. Cable's hands dropped instantly to his sides as he stepped back, his heart still hammering against his ribs. It was Emily. Her sharp eyes scanned the scene, landing on Sofia, whose cheeks were still flushed a deep, tell-tale pink.

"Now please give me permission to leave, My Lord," Sofia whispered, her voice trembling slightly. Cable bowed his head stiffly. "Yes." And with a final, lingering glance, Sofia hurried back toward the palace.

Emily stepped into the space Sofia had vacated, a sly yet piercing smile on her lips. "Don't play dumb with me, brother," she said, her tone shifting from playful to serious. "I've never seen you look so... distracted. Especially not around the staff."

Cable shifted uncomfortably, refusing to meet her gaze. Emily took a step closer, her voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "Is it Sofia? My butler?"

"No, Emily, nothing's going on," Cable insisted, though the deep flush spreading across his face betrayed his every word.

Emily raised an arched eyebrow, her frustration simmering just below the surface. She was protective of her brother, but the idea of him falling for a servant—especially her servant—sparked a flash of regal anger in her eyes. "Just drop it, okay?" Cable snapped, trying to end the interrogation.

Emily leaned in, her gaze icy. "I'll drop it... for now. But brother, you are hiding something dangerous, and I intend to find out what."

Meanwhile, in the shadows of Breloff Palace...

Arya and Ethan slipped through the hidden stone passages, believing they were cloaked by the silence of the night. But they were being watched.

King Duke Breloff had witnessed the secret moment between his daughter and his most trusted guard. He saw Arya's hand rest gently on Ethan's arm, their faces mere inches apart in the moonlight.

The Duke's expression remained unreadable, but his mind raced with the implications for Arya's reputation and the kingdom's future. Without making a sound, he retreated into the darkness, leaving the unsuspecting couple alone. Arya and Ethan, lost in their private world, shared one last soft kiss before parting ways, oblivious that their secret was no longer their own.
