Chapter 5 - FIRST MISSION

A couple days go by..

"How's the boy?" The council said, looking down at the man that walked into the lightly lit room.

"He's woken up recently, and started his training with Lieutenant Shaun." The mysterious man said with his looming figure.

"Excellent, prepare him for the worst. Though if that thing appears or sends his enforcements, kill the boy before anything else." The men who watched above, gave orders to the man.

"Yes sir." The man said stepping forwards into the light, he wore a black suit and had short black hair.

"Find Yugon too, we can't leave him off the hook either." The council said.

"I'll personally assess this, in the meantime Shaun will make sure Yohan becomes stronger." The man in the suit said.

"Very well, you're dismissed Lieutenant Aoki. Goodluck." The council said as the lights abruptly shut off completely.

 Shortly later…

"Concentrate. Feel the energy around you transmitting to your inner consciousness." Shaun whispered.

I held my eyes shut relaxing as I sat, I concentrated as he instructed falling into a deep subconsciousness.

Then I heard something, a voice that was faint but detectable. It was as if it were calling out to me, and it got closer.

"Yohan. Yohan. Yohan. YOHAN!" The voice's words had gotten more and more distinguishable, calling my name. That's when my eyes opened, I stood frozen unable to move. I felt the waving motion of water beneath my feet, and the space I was in was brightly lit by a sun far away.

"Hello? Where am I?" I said in response.

"This is the dimension you created, another reality where we exist." The voice said in front of me, materializing into a golden sphere of energy.

It hovered close towards my face, and the breeze blew hard against it.

"I did? Wait, what do you mean 'we' ?" I replied.

"Once you created the reality to speak to me, you also created a bridge to other spirits." The spirit responded.

"I didn't know I was capable of doing that.. Incredible." I smiled, trying to bow but couldn't due to the unknown effects restricting my movement.

"Are you here to learn one of your abilities..? Or is there some other alternative." The spirit said.

"Yes, I'm trying to grow stronger and learn to use Yon." I replied.

"Very well, but in order for me to offer your ability, we must first form a bind." The spirit spoke in a monotone way, while explaining the requirements.

"I see, how does it work?" I said.

"Pledge your loyalty, in exchange for an ability." The spirit said, slowly hovering towards my chest.

I closed my eyes, concentrating on the bind being made. The spirit then entered my body shortly after, as I opened my eyes. "I will." I said, accepting the terms.

"Goodluck, Yohan.." An unknown voice I've never heard before, said to me.

I returned to the real world, and found myself sitting on a bench, in front of me was Shaun, Anya, and Yoshi. "So did you speak to it?" Said Anya smiling from ear to ear at me.

"Yeah, it was incredible. It was gold.." I said.

"Just as I thought, well then you've spoken to it. Now it's time to see what you've awakened." Shaun said crossing his arms, he seemed different, more irritated than anything.

"This?" I said standing up, my dextral foot touching down first as the ground was engulfed in darkness. The shadow ranged far, with a 30 meter radius though only stretched out to 10 feet. No one could move except Shaun of course, considering his Yon was stronger than mine.

Anya grunted, due to the restricting gravitational force.

Yoshi cocked his head back slightly pushing his tongue against the right side of his cheek, he chuckled lightly looking more proud and jealous.

He already has an ability? Yohan is truly strong, stronger than me. Yoshi thought, grinning.

"You guys made a bind, didn't you..?" Shaun asked, walking forwards before stopping just 3 feet away from me.

"Yeah, do you know about it?" I answered, I was curious about Shaun's knowledge on Yon.

"Of course, I'll explain about it later.." He said.

"Follow me, we're gonna test this new ability." He said walking towards the training grounds.

We followed just a few seconds after, and I stared at my right hand the entire way.

"Let's see what you can really do with this ability." Shaun said, smirking hard.

"Okay, how do we do that?" I asked.

"Learn to control it, and we'll see if it has secondary attributes." Shaun replied.

He turned, grabbing an arrow. "I'm gonna throw this at you, and I want you to defend yourself." He said, reeling his arm back with the arrow in hand.

I planted my feet firmly allowing the Yon to flow from my legs down to the ground, the ground around me about 5 feet ahead covered in the shadowy energy.

"Ready? Now.." He said moving his arm forwards, the arrow came speeding towards me faster than even sound. He must've applied Yon to the arrow— I thought before it reached me.

I attempted to manipulate the darkness into a dome surrounding me, but all it did was rise to my knees. The arrow was just about inches from my face, and I couldn't put up the dome, I thought I was finished.

But I couldn't just die yet, I had a promise to fulfill, my mother needed me, and I needed to grow stronger.

My sinistral foot dragged behind me, using the momentum I leaned back moving my head to the right. The arrow passed by me, successfully dodging the arrow.

That was close. I thought stumbling back before falling on the ground, I exhaled sharply, and shakily.

Anya gasped witnessing my near death experience, and she darted towards me.

"You okay Yohan?" Yoshi shouted while walking over as well.

"I'm good guys." I said while Anya helped me up, Yoshi placed his hand on my shoulder smiling. "You've always had good reflexes, good dodge." He said then instantly turned his head looking at Shaun.

"Don't worry, you were never gonna be hit. I would've stopped it if you couldn't dodge." Shaun said, folding his arms, sighing.

"Do we have to try again?" I said groaning, I was unsure if my ability would ever work.

"Hell yeah we're trying again, you scared?" He said glaring at me.

"No.. fine." I said finally just giving in.

"Alright, get in position." Shaun said, Yoshi and Anya stepped back.

I planted my feet once again channeling the Yon from my legs down to the ground, the concrete below being completely swallowed by my darkness. An attracting force substituting for the lack of movement within the area of effect, excluding me of course.

Shaun reeled his arm back once again, waiting for my go. I mustered the necessary Yon amount within my ability, when the dome finally conjured around me.

I put it back down, readying myself for Shaun's throw, "Ready. Go." We said in conjunction. He launched the arrow, this time 5x faster than before.

As the arrow reached 10 feet of me, I manifested the dome surrounding me. The arrow penetrated the dome but stopped just before reaching my face, I then expanded the dome outwards separating the distance between the arrow and my face.

"WOO, GO YOHAN!" Anya shouted, smiling.

"That's it Yohan!" Yoshi shouted, smiling also.

"Not bad." Shaun said, clapping while walking towards me. "You've shown great control over your ability, as long as your reflexes are sharp you'll be able to manifest that dome instantly." He added smirking.

"Thanks, but what's next?" I said breathing in and exhaling slowly.

"Combat." Shaun replied smiling widely, this seemed to be his most favored training aspect.

"Combat? You'll teach us Karate or something?" Yoshi said, chuckling, joking as always.

Anya kicked his shin with the heel of her foot, "Shut up." She said whispering.

"Ouch.." He said quietly, listening to Anya.

Shaun dragged me and Yoshi to the deck, and threw us on the platform.

"We have a specialist to teach you actual martial arts." He said gently placing both palms onto our heads.

"Aw, so-" Yoshi tried saying before I cut him off.

"Do you mean Zing?" I said, looking at Shaun.

"Yeah, you can fuse martial arts with your Zing making it stronger." He replied.

 "What's Zing again?" Yoshi asked

"I'm not explaining it." Shaun sighed, turning his back towards us. "There are some head gears in the maintenance closet, grab those and put them on." He said sitting on the bench.

Yoshi and I looked at each other sighing before walking inside the agency, we found the maintenance closet entering.

"Mann I can't believe I forgot what Zing is.." Yoshi said, grabbing head gear and mouthpieces for both of us.

"I'll explain it to you later." I said, taking the head gear and mouthpiece.

Walking back, we put on our gear.

We took our stand next to the deck waiting for further instruction from Shaun.

"Somebody will be joining us, call him Sensei Zuh." Shaun said, exhaling sharply.

Around the corner of the agency came a man, he was short with a long beard. He propped himself upwards with a cane, analyzing us both.

"So these are the children?" His voice sounded smooth but deep, he walked closer towards us to further examine.

"Yeah, they're alright, but more importantly they're ready for you to do whatever." Shaun said.

Sensei Zuh grabbed my forearm, having gotten closer, he felt the lack of definition and muscle. Then smacked my stomach with his cane to test my toughness.

 "This'll do." Sensei Zuh sighed.

"I told you, they're meat sacks. See you losers later.." Shaun chuckled walking away.

I looked at Sensei Zuh's stature, I assumed whatever was going to happen next couldn't be that bad.

"So.. what is it you're gonna do uh, Sensei Zuh?" Yoshi muttered.

"I'm going to kill you. Put you two through hell." Sensei said with a serious expression on his face.

 "Wait what?!" Yoshi said nervously.

"Don't be such a chicken Yoshi." Anya remarked as if Sensei Zuh was bluffing.

"I'm not a chicken, he just said he's going to kill us!" Yoshi shouted.

"No, he's going to test us." I said shortly after.

"Test?!" Anya and Yoshi said simultaneously.

"Enough yap, let us begin." Sensei Zuh said before I could utter another word, he knew I had figured it out but didn't want Yoshi getting out of this easily.

Sensei Zuh made his first move, but beforehand struck a strange position. He stood idly as if he was mustering up something, and posed his arms forward in a combative stance.

His target was me, I assumed he wanted to see if I truly understood.

Even on guard I couldn't keep up with his speed, he easily was able to get between Yoshi and I.

Yoshi couldn't even perceive Sensei Zuh had moved, but I could. He rushed below me, with a speeding fist aiming straight for the side of my body.

Huh? When did he get there? Yoshi thought.

It was a split second but I was able to move my arm downwards, which allowed my elbow to take the force of the attack.

If Sensei Zuh didn't hold back, he would've blown my entire arm off.

But his punch sent me flying where I landed on the ground a few feet away.

"Yohan!" Anya screamed getting into a stance, she had never fought before but she did pack a punch.

"Don't worry, he won't get past me." Yoshi said, gaining some sort of confidence.

Yoshi turned, gently swinging his arm towards Anya pushing her back a few feet, he then charged his fist releasing it straight towards Sensei Zuh.

Sensei Zuh very quickly and easily countered his attack, simply pushing Yoshi's arm away to strike him in his abdomen.

Yoshi fell near me, desperately trying to breathe.

 "Guys!" Anya shouted.

"You shouldn't take your eyes off the enemy." Sensei Zuh reminded us, quickly grabbing my arm and tightly holding it behind my back.

Yoshi coughed, catching his breath shortly after, he stood up getting into a stance.

 "Damnit.." I shouted, irritated.

"Try again." Sensei Zuh said giving us a second chance, his hand moved forward pushing me toward Yoshi.

"Alright, new plan.. we attack together!" I whispered to Yoshi, stepping forwards. Yoshi followed my actions.

 "Got it." Yoshi asked.

We stepped closer towards Sensei Zuh, preparing for an attack.

"As long as you're in the game we should be fine.." Yoshi said.

"Right, follow closely." I said before rushing Sensei Zuh with Yoshi a couple feet behind me.

Sensei Zuh's leg rose upwards in a crane-like position.

What is that stance.. I thought.

As we approached the sensei we split in different directions, I went to the left slamming my fist into Sensei's face while Yoshi slanted to the right to deliver another attack to his ribcage.

But Sensei outmatched us, he was too skilled. He predicted what we were going to do so easily and quickly, he leaned backwards avoiding my attack, whilst simultaneously grabbing Yoshi's arm.

Pulling Yoshi, he threw him straight into me.

We both went tumbling to the ground, while Sensei was already charging his next attack.

Yoshi quickly stood dashing away, while I rolled to the left. Sensei's leg slammed onto the ground where we once laid, missing.

If we had moved any slower we would've been done. My mind went rambling with caution, and how to win this safely.

But Yoshi had rushed behind Sensei. Surely he sees him by now. I thought.

But it seemed Sensei had not acknowledged Yoshi, so I raised my arm and I swung for a strong hook across Sensei's jaw.

Yoshi's eyes were closed and he stood completely still, but he wasn't just standing in fear, it looked like he was concentrating on Sensei, or something else.

Sensei immediately avoided my attack, but he still didn't notice Yoshi for some reason.

"I understand." Yoshi whispered slowly walking up behind Sensei, unannounced and unnoticed.

He doesn't see him? It doesn't matter, this is our chance. I thought again, jumping forward.

Yoshi's arms swung open quickly, as he grabbed hold of Sensei. It seemed his hold on Sensei was too tight for him to escape, so I took this chance.

"Hm?" Sensei's confident smirk turned into an interesting expression. He definitely had something up his sleeve.

"Use your shadow's Yohan!" Yoshi suggested shouting in the process.

"Yeah!." I responded, concentrating Yon I stored earlier into my feet, darkness casted from beneath me swarming all three of us.

Sensei stood still looking at me as I walked towards him, Yoshi kept his hold on Sensei even though neither of them could move.

"Good teamwork boys.." Sensei said, commending us.

 "T-thanks.." Yoshi said grunting.

"So we win, right?" I asked, pointing my palm downwards at the ground beneath us.

"That is correct." Sensei replied, relaxing his body, my field of darkness was nullified suddenly. Sensei took a step forward patting my shoulder, and he smiled.

"Wha.. how did you do that?" I asked, surprised by this trick..

"I think that was Zing, I felt his muscles tensing and his body getting stronger, then I sensed the Yon surrounding us start dissipating." Yoshi explained.

"How do you know?" I asked.

 "I sensed it." Yoshi replied.

"Quite the genius, both of you." Sensei said, chuckling.

I walked over towards Anya, holding her hand.

"Good job guys." She said, smiling.

"Thanks." Both me and Yoshi said simultaneously.

"I will teach you boys how to use Zing, and control your Yon better." Sensei said, clapping his hands together signaling the start of our training.

  A few weeks go by..

My eyes fluttered open, I propped myself up using my elbows sitting up straight. I wiped my eyes before getting out of bed.

Walking to the bathroom, I tidied myself up and headed out of my room.

Almost every time I forget we're in a huge dormitory, with only three rooms.

In the dining area was Anya sitting at the table drinking a cup of OJ, and Yoshi who was in the kitchen probably cooking up some monstrosity.

"Sup." I said still with a groggy voice, lifting my shirt with my hand to scratch my stomach. Anya looked up, noticing my abs and toned body. She smiled with a light pink blush to her cheeks.

"Hii Yohan, how did you sleep?" She asked with her soft beautiful voice.

"Pretty good.. Uhm what is Yoshi doing.." I asked with a shocked nervous expression.

"I don't know, probably something bad again.." Anya whispered.

I sighed sitting down in the chair, grabbing a piece of toast laying on the plate in front of Anya eating it.

"Hey, Yoshi whatcha cookin' up?" I asked, finishing the piece of toast.

Yoshi jerked the frying pan upwards with his wrist, making the pancake fly upwards, forming into edible food soon after.

"Just some pancakes, want some?" Yoshi asked, shouting over the noise from the stove.

"Nah, but thanks." I shouted back, I definitely didn't want food poisoning.

"Suit yourself." Yoshi shrugged, finishing his grotesque breakfast.

A few hours went by, and Yoshi and I headed out for our finalized training.

"Ohayō, boys." Sensei said bowing before us.

"Ohayō, Sensei." Yoshi and I replied, while also bowing.

Walking up next to Sensei was General Zhou, I assumed he had come to see us train, and see how much we progressed.

"General Zhou will be taking over now, you'll both fight him and use everything you've learned." Sensei said, tapping both of our foreheads with his fingers.

"Everything we've learned huh?" Yoshi said, exhaling, clenching his fist and readying himself for a fight.

"I won't go easy." Zhou said, smirking.

"Yeah, we won't either." I said, cracking my knuckles smiling.
