Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Endfield and Rhodes Island

The Civilized Ringbelt.

This was the term used for humanity's collective body—

provided you followed the rules laid out in the Ringbelt Convention.

The Civilized Ringbelt was made up of many factions, groups, and organizations.

To maintain humanity's basic survival on Talos-II, and to fight for humanity's ability to truly realize itself on Talos-II, the Convention served as the foundation and guiding standard. Under it, members practiced technical division of labor and local autonomy.

Ringbelt Residents.

This referred to humans with an officially recognized Ringbelt identity—people allowed to live within the governed territories of the Ringbelt's various factions, groups, and organizations.

Basically: legal citizens.

Among Talos-II's total population, Ringbelt residents made up over 90%.

And within the Civilized Ringbelt, the three largest factions were:

the Union Workers' League,

the Tower-Ring Chamber of Commerce,

and the Hongshan Academy of Sciences.

By their status under the Convention, these three were collectively called:

"Members with an unshakable position under the Ringbelt Convention."

For short: U3—also widely known as the "Three Great Factions," the "Big Three," the "Three Giants," and so on.

Endfield Industries was also an important member of the Civilized Ringbelt.

And for the sake of convenience and neutrality, the Dijiang had a dedicated venue aboard it where Ringbelt members could hold general discussions—about Convention revisions and other affairs.

Endfield Industries also maintained close cooperation with the Union Workers' League.

Valley No. 4.

This region lay on the edge of the Civilized Ringbelt's sphere of influence.

Because it was rich in mineral resources, the Union Workers' League selected it as a production and frontier-development zone.

They built production bases such as Aberly Quarry, and also ran energy research projects—like Originium cultivation.

And after the incident where the colossal Angel "Astral Body" attacked, they signed a leasing contract with Endfield Industries and launched related collaboration—

Workers' Home.

Located south of Hub Base, it was the residential area for union workers in Valley No. 4.

(For reference: the Central Control Tower was in the middle, the old factory district was to the north, and the base entrance was on the west—step outside and you were in the under-construction zone.)

All of that made one thing obvious: in Valley No. 4, Endfield Industries and the Union Workers' League were tightly intertwined.

So if a union member was in trouble, helping immediately was the natural response.

"Are you alright? Any injuries?"

After dealing with the Landbreakers with ease, the Administrator watched the Perro uncle climb down from a two-meter-tall cargo container and asked with concern.

A sign on the fence behind him bore the emblem of the Union Workers' League—U.W.S.T.

"I'm fine… I'm not going to get crushed by a few Landbreakers."

The Perro uncle still looked shaken as he glanced at the defeated Landbreakers.

Then he noticed an all-too-familiar insignia on their clothing.

"Wait—You're Endfield people!"

He lit up, openly delighted.

"Thank god. When I saw the Anchor drop into your base, I was wondering if I should head over to help."

Apparently, when the Anchor fell earlier, he hadn't been at Workers' Home—he'd been out working beyond the base, so he wasn't hit by the shockwave.

But that also meant he'd been attacked by Landbreakers instead.

"How are things on the union side?"

The Administrator wanted to know what the current situation was like in the under-construction zone.

And what she heard was… not good.

"Angels and Landbreakers keep coming here one after another—we can't hold them back."

The Perro uncle spoke through clenched teeth.

"They smash through walls and windows. We could only fight while retreating… Anyway, thanks. I need to fix up these facilities first, then I'm going back to cave in the heads of those bandit bastards!"

He balled his fist, clearly full of hostility toward the Landbreakers.

Then, as if he'd suddenly remembered something, he added:

"I've got two brothers. If you run into an Elafia and a Kuranta on the road, tell them to gear up. I'll start getting ready here!"

"Alright. If we meet them, I'll pass the message along."

The Administrator agreed.

Conversation over, they prepared to continue onward.

"It's worse than we thought. There are probably more Landbreakers than we expected."

After parting ways with the Perro uncle, the Administrator walked along the uneven road and voiced her conclusion.

Hao Fan agreed.

"Yeah. There are tons of Landbreakers in this area. They even built temporary camps—deliberately positioned right on the route to the planned deployment zone."

He lowered his gaze to the in-game map display. To him, it looked like the Landbreakers were specifically targeting Hub Base.

As for why—

He was a transmigrator who hadn't played the beta. Of course he didn't know. He only felt certain these bandits had bad intentions.

"If the goal is to clear a safe route so Andre and the others waiting behind can pass safely, then we can't avoid these Landbreakers. We'll have to attack them head-on… huh?"

Hao Fan suddenly stopped—he felt like he'd stepped on something.

He lifted his foot and saw a golden stone that looked strangely familiar…

"No way… is this Originium?!"

It instantly reminded him of Arknights' iconic resource.

Even though he'd quit the game three years before his transmigration, he still remembered it.

He just hadn't expected to see Originium here too.

"More precisely, this is originium ore."

Perlica corrected him.

Then, considering the Administrator's amnesia, she gave a broad explanation.

"Originium ore is a basic mineral essential for industrial production. What you stepped on is raw, crudely extracted Originium—probably dropped by some union worker by accident."

In short:

Originium was a crystalline mineral that contained energy.

And it was the foundation of human survival on Talos-II.

Originium from Terra was still the core of energy, industrial production, and arts—everything—on Talos-II.

Although the dangerous environment of Talos-II created fertile ground for theoretical breakthroughs—driving continuous innovation in more efficient energy production and industrial processes over the past 150-plus years—Originium was still the prerequisite that made it all possible.

The pioneers of the new world understood this clearly: without Originium boilers and Originium Arts, even the most basic industrial production would become difficult.

On the other hand, pioneers didn't simply stand still and repeat old lessons.

The emergence of controllable Originium distribution technology made it possible, to a certain extent, to control the growth of Originium crystals—to "cultivate" them in designated areas—and reduce the risk of disasters erupting on Talos-II.

For example: the Union Workers' League's energy research project on Originium cultivation in Valley No. 4.

Because of human intervention, ore in Valley No. 4 had become more and more abundant, supporting industrial production.

As for Oripathy caused by Originium exposure?

This wasn't Terra.

On Talos-II, humanity's ability to prevent and treat Oripathy had improved dramatically.

A long-term prevention-and-treatment program proposed by Rhodes Island had been recognized. Widespread preventive injections and inhibitor therapy were no longer fantasy; and large and small frontier communities had become more tolerant of Infected residents.

All of these signs were hopeful.

But that didn't mean every problem Originium brought would automatically be solved in the new world.

One more thing:

Rhodes Island, the pharmaceutical company that had persisted since the Terra era, had now hidden itself away.

Aside from Endfield Industries, very few people knew Rhodes Island's mission on Talos-II.

That was why Perlica had previously suspected something about the Doctor's identity.

And Hao Fan, staring at the ore beneath his feet—and the Originium crystal clusters growing along the roadside—didn't know what to say for a moment…

It really did feel like he'd stepped into an isekai world.

Then he noticed something on the map: a green dot surrounded by red dots.

"Another union worker is under attack!"
