Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Officer Chen With the Lungmen Mouth

Talos-II.

One of the natural satellites of the gas giant Talos—and the only habitable world anywhere along its orbital corridor.

In the distant past, the civilization on this planet used a stargate at the North Pole to travel to the birthplace of Originium—

Terra.

A faraway planet.

They built a glorious civilization under the shadow of Catastrophes… but lost contact with their homeland.

Then, 152 years ago, pioneers from Terra restarted the stargate and returned to Talos-II. They called it "the Expansion"—though the few who knew the real history called it "the Return."

A few years later…

The stargate was destroyed in the First Angel War.

Talos-II's link to Terra was severed again. The surviving humans could only remember home through records.

Beyond the nitrogen- and oxygen-rich sky—beyond the greenhouse haze—only distant stars and the looming gas giant overhead served as a constant reminder:

Far travelers… you've been away from home for more light-years than you can count.

Fortunately, Talos-II's towering mountain ranges, interwoven bodies of water, and thriving plant ecosystems formed a relatively complete ecological cycle.

In the century-plus since the stargate collapsed and contact with home was cut off, the planet's environment and resources became the key to survival.

And after generations of expansion—

the pioneers, lost in a new world, finally managed to gain a foothold and build a brand-new homeland of civilization—

Arknights: Endfield.

Endfield Industries.

An independent corporate organization.

Its main business: providing cutting-edge industrial R&D services, and developing solutions for building and expanding the new world.

It was originally formed by Rhodes Island Pharmaceuticals and other partners. Among the first scientific expeditions to reach Talos-II, Endfield Industries served as the think tank and pathfinder—and under the Administrator's leadership, conducted detailed surveys across many frontier regions.

And Endfield Industries' headquarters was a vessel stationed in Talos-II's geostationary orbit—

the Dijang.

After countless events, Endfield Industries—together with the Union Guilds, Hongshan Academy of Sciences, the Rim Tower Chamber of Commerce, and other factions—used irreplaceable, non-renewable technological resources to complete an orbital miracle that could never be replicated.

At its core was a massive "Protocol Originium" block, responsible for running the central Protocol System—supporting functions including Protocol teleportation and integrated industrial systems.

And today, the most important Administrator of the Dijang was about to return.

In an empty room somewhere.

A Liberi girl with flax-colored hair and bright blue eyes stood before the enormous Originium, fully focused as she worked the Protocol Originium on her wrist.

Her name was Perlica.

She was a protocol technology specialist, currently serving as Endfield Industries' Supervisor.

Though she could mobilize company resources effectively, she wasn't a harsh manager.

Strict but approachable; flexible and pragmatic—those were the words most people used for Perlica.

And she had once been personally brought back and carefully taught by the Administrator.

Now, she was working to awaken the Administrator—who had been dormant for years.

At this very moment—

A human silhouette appeared within the Originium… and slowly separated from it.

A black-haired girl wearing a black blindfold emerged as the Originium particles dispersed—materializing before Perlica's eyes.

Then her body gave out, and she collapsed—falling into Perlica's arms.

"Administrator… Administrator?"

Perlica called softly in panic, terrified something had gone wrong.

But then, behind her, a white-haired girl with green eyes spoke up—one hand on her hip, offering calm reassurance:

"It's fine. She's just weak."

Hearing that, Perlica finally relaxed.

Cradling the unconscious Administrator, her voice trembling with both longing and a hint of choking emotion, she whispered:

"…Long time no see."

"Boss, please! Spare me!"

The newly arrived transmigrator was currently receiving a hands-on lesson in how this world works.

Hao Fan ran while "making it rain," begging for mercy—hoping the other guy would just let him go.

He had to admit his earlier attitude really had been too cocky.

Nothing teaches faster than physical education.

Unfortunately, the other guy was the type who never lets it go.

"Brat—today I'm gonna skin you alive!"

The Earthsplitter clenched his cleaver and chased him down, cursing nonstop.

He swore he'd never been this furious in his life—especially since the guy was still provoking him—

The coins Hao Fan threw somehow kept smacking the Earthsplitter right in the face like miracles.

The taunt value had hit maximum.

"Boss, I've got money! Rob me! Just please let me go!"

"Who the hell cares about your one-yuan coin?! I want your life!"

Begging failed. Hao Fan could only keep running.

Modern sub-healthy bodies weren't made for intense sprinting—but if you really forced yourself, the potential was there.

He'd never known he could run this fast.

But stamina was his fatal weakness. There was no way he could outlast a Terra native with a monster physique. Getting caught was only a matter of time.

So Hao Fan desperately started brainstorming, trying to recall anything useful.

If he remembered correctly, that outfit meant this guy was a raider from the Bonegrinder clan—

Bonegrinder Raider.

An armed Earthsplitter foot-soldier equipped with basic melee weapons—one of the "majority" that made up Earthsplitter forces.

Poorly equipped, but often appearing in groups.

In other words, the guy chasing Hao Fan was bottom-tier trash among the Earthsplitters.

And yet even that kind of trash had the transmigrator cornered, with nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

When you put it that way…

Hao Fan's life really was tragic.

"Damn it—I've got a system! Isn't this supposed to be a power fantasy?! How did it turn into this… Endfield isn't supposed to be like this!"

He was chased into another bout of "goo-goo ga-ga," despair dripping from every word.

Honestly, he couldn't run anymore.

The guy behind him was holding a heavy cleaver and still wasn't even breathing hard. Born to be a workhorse, apparently.

"Hah—why'd you stop running?"

Seeing the suspicious hooded man finally halt, panting and wheezing, the Earthsplitter's grin stretched wider and wider.

He couldn't wait to do whatever he wanted to him on the spot.

"Damn you… don't think I'm scared of you!"

Forced into a corner, Hao Fan finally decided to fight back.

He hadn't been in real fights before, but he'd learned some military boxing—so maybe his fists weren't completely useless.

"Come on, trash!"

He put on a standard stance and shouted, full of momentum.

"Hah!"

Smack!

A solid, brutal open-handed slap.

The Earthsplitter didn't even bother using the cleaver. He casually slapped Hao Fan down to the ground with zero suspense.

"Pah. That doesn't even qualify as amateur hour. You're garbage!"

The Earthsplitter kept kicking Hao Fan while hurling insults.

Honestly, this was the first time in his life he'd seen someone so pathetic—his physical condition was laughably weak.

He deserved the beating.

"Nggh—hngh—Aaaahhh!!"

Hao Fan hugged his head and screamed as the kicks landed.

There was no helping it.

He couldn't win.

Bare hands versus a weapon was an unbridgeable wall—let alone the obvious species gap in physical strength.

So Hao Fan was out of options.

Even if he begged the system, it only repeated that special abilities could only be drawn once per day.

And as for Making It Rain?

Do I look like I'm making it rain?!

What use is this trash ability?!

"Hah… I've vented enough. Time to send you off."

After the face-to-face beatdown, the Earthsplitter finally felt better. He raised the cleaver—clearly ready to turn violent for real.

"Boss—please! Don't kill me!"

Hao Fan begged again—cowardly enough to be crowned the most embarrassing transmigrator in history.

But his right hand, utterly shameless, still "made it rain" again—using a stubborn single coin to defend his "dignity," to the point the Earthsplitter's forehead veins bulged.

"F—again?! You still provoking me?!"

The Earthsplitter lowered the cleaver, ready to go back to kicking—

But right then, the "damsel saves hero—no wait, beauty saves hero" event triggered—

"Let go of that suspicious hooded guy!"

Azure dragon horns. Twin ponytails.

A draconic girl with waist-length black hair appeared, holding two long swords that looked… honestly kind of dumb, and wearing a thoroughly dumb expression.

That extremely familiar silhouette made Hao Fan feel a sense of déjà vu, and he blurted out without thinking:

"Officer Chen—the one with the Lungmen swear mouth!"
