"Meemaw, for the last time, yes, I packed the pepper spray."
"Don't take that tone with me," Meemaw grumbled over the phone, her face turning sour on the camera.
I was on a video call with her, and her mood seemed to have improved from four days ago when she first found out my parents' case was public.
To say she had been furious was an understatement.
"You're not a cat, Abby! You do not have nine lives. Do you realize what you've done? What if we do not get the culprit?!"
"Meemaw," I sighed. "Finnegan is helping, okay. He was able to get this out there when I couldn't even manage it myself. We know who the culprit is. It's his brother-"
"Yeah, and that's way too much of a coincidence, no?" She grumbled, her lips pressing into a thin line. "I like the hunk, but he comes from a murderous family, which doesn't speak well."
She glanced around before leaning closer to the phone. "What if it's in the blood?"
