Chapter 20 - Jealous Teens (1)

So basically, that's how my week went. I trained, developed my relationship with Dina further, and kept pushing myself in training.

Along the way, I realized something interesting about my adaptation ability, specifically, the type of adaptation I have.

It turns out that it's the same kind of adaptation that a certain boy with black hair, who could summon Shinigamis, had.

This particular adaptability belonged to a specific Shinigami general who could adapt to anything. My version of this adaptation is very similar to his, but with some limitations due to me being human rather than a Shinigami.

The first advantage is that I can adapt to anything that could potentially kill or harm me. My body will start adapting as long as the threat is lethal or harmful. It doesn't mean I have to be directly attacked by it. As long as something can bring me harm, my body will adapt to it.

However, if something doesn't have the potential to harm me, it's a slow process, almost useless. For example, if I push myself too hard in training, and my legs are still weak, I'll continue forcing myself beyond my limits. Eventually, I'll get higher resistance, and with that, I'll be able to push on for longer.

Over time, I might become two or four times stronger in terms of endurance than before.

I also discovered another aspect during my nighttime exercises with Dina. As my body adapted to the environment and situations, I became more aware of her body—her sensitive spots and weaknesses.

Our nighttime activities became more intense, but I knew exactly how to trigger her sensitive areas. My body's adaptation allowed me to become so attuned to her that I could predict her responses. I knew her body intimately, understanding her weaknesses and sensitive spots.

Now, enough about that now you guy's know what happened over the one week i had, so let's get back to the present.

Flashback End!

Classes continued as usual. We had four different classes, each covering various topics about the world. It wasn't all useful information, but I did pick up quite a bit. The more I learned, the easier it became to understand and adapt to this new world I was in.

By the fifth period, I was curious. This school was supposed to focus on combat, so when I got the chance, I asked a classmate sitting to my left, a girl named Chichi.

She explained that twice a week, the school had days dedicated to studies— learning about the world, researching information, and conducting experiments. The other three days focused on combat and training.

As luck would have it, today and tomorrow were those two study days, which meant no combat classes.

But starting on Wednesday, we would finally begin the training. I was excited. It made sense, considering how society must have certain rules and structures in place. Like I said before, these study days were actually useful for me, as they gave me time to continue practicing and adapting to my ability.

I could also use the opportunity to learn more about my classmates and their abilities, and perhaps figure out which class might be able to challenge me—like in some of the fighting animes I've seen.

When the fifth period ended, it was finally break time. We were given an hour to ourselves, and as I sat back in my chair, I pulled out the bento from my bag — a bento personally made by Dina.

Just sitting there, with the bento in front of me, the smell wafting up from it, I could already feel my mouth watering. My face shifted into one of gluttony as I stared at the meal, practically salivating at the thought of eating it. I could already tell it was going to be delicious, even before opening it.

Slowly, I lifted the lid, and immediately the strong, mouth-watering scent of the food hit me like a wave. It was like a symphony of flavors in the air, making my stomach growl in anticipation.

"Wow…"

I inhaled deeply, letting the aroma fill my senses, and my eyes nearly closed in bliss. Then, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself, saying, "Dina is not just perfect... she also knows how to cook? Damn, I'm really going to give myself an amazing wife."

It wasn't just the food. It was the thought of having someone so perfect, so capable, standing by my side. I couldn't wait to dig in.

As I dug into the bento, savoring each bite like it was the best thing I had ever tasted, I didn't realize that my meal had become the center of attention. The delicious aroma of the food must've been irresistible because, within moments, I felt a various pairs of eyes on me.

The scent reached the noses of several girls in the class, and their conversations began to shift. At first, it was a low murmur, a few curious glances in my direction, but then one girl, sitting at the front of the classroom, suddenly spoke up.

"Hey, what's that you're eating?" she asked, her voice casual, but her eyes were clearly fixated on the bento box in my hands.

I looked up, noticing the interest in her gaze, and I raised an eyebrow lazily. "Just some homemade lunch," I said, offering her a nonchalant shrug. "Nothing special."

Her eyes widened as if she was taken aback by the answer. "Homemade? Wait, is that from her?" she asked, a slight hint of surprise in her voice.

I chuckled a bit. "Yeah, it's from Dina. She can cook. You know, my fiancée."

There was a brief silence, then several of the girls nearby leaned in, unable to suppress their curiosity.

"Wait, wait—your fiancée?" one of the girls asked, her eyes wide with disbelief. "Like, for real?"

I nodded lazily, giving a relaxed shrug.

"Yeah, for real. We've been engaged for a while now." My tone was as casual as I could make it, though I couldn't help but notice the way some of the girls were glancing at each other, whispering excitedly.

It didn't take long for the whole group to be talking amongst themselves, asking more questions. Some wanted to know how long we'd been engaged, while others were more focused on just how "lucky" I was to have someone like Dina.

Meanwhile, across the room, there was another group of girls, but their attention wasn't on my bento. They were all gathered around Akuma, the other good-looking guy in class.

He wasn't even trying to draw attention to himself, yet he had an effortless charm that pulled people in. The way he stood near the window, the sun casting its light on his lavender curls, made him look almost ethereal. His cold, discerning eyes and his sharp features were enough to captivate the whole class.

A few girls had started asking him questions too, though Akuma wasn't as forthcoming as me. He answered their questions with that same impassive expression, always cool and collected.

"Akuma, how's your morning been?" one girl asked, giggling nervously.

He glanced over at her briefly, his icy blue eyes scanning her face before he spoke in his usual low, calm voice. "It's fine," he said, his tone barely above a whisper. "Not much to say."

His responses were always so precise, leaving no room for much more conversation, but it didn't seem to stop the girls from trying. Some admired his aloofness, and others clearly liked his mysterious, almost untouchable persona.

But just as Akuma kept getting attention, I couldn't help but notice the quiet murmur growing around me as I chewed the last bite of my lunch. One of the girls in the front row, the one who had initially asked about my bento, turned back to her friends and smiled.

"Can you believe it? He's ranked among the top two most good-looking guys in the entire high school," she whispered, almost teasingly, though I could hear her perfectly clear.

I gave her a blank look, not entirely sure if I should be flattered or annoyed. But the way she was speaking made it sound as though I was some kind of trophy. A subtle smile tugged at my lips despite myself.

The girl leaned in closer. "It's not just that you're handsome, you know," she continued, "Am sure you'll be also added to this ranking pretty soon."

I raised an eyebrow at her but didn't respond. Instead, I kept my relaxed posture, leaned back a little in my chair, and slowly took a sip of my drink.

"Just don't let it go to your head, okay?" the girl added with a teasing smile. "I mean, who could blame you? You're pretty much already famous."

I chuckled lightly, more amused than anything. "Thanks," I said flatly, taking a deep breath and resting my eyes for a moment. It wasn't exactly what I'd expected, but the attention felt... different now. There was a subtle thrill, but I kept it in check.

As the girls kept chattering amongst themselves, I couldn't help but turn my attention toward Akuma again, who was still surrounded by his own group of admirers.

He noticed me glancing over, and for just a brief moment, our eyes met. He gave a slight, almost imperceptible nod of acknowledgment, then turned his attention back to his own circle.

"Interesting," I muttered under my breath. I had no idea how things were going to unfold in this school, but one thing was clear: I was going to be right in the middle of it all, whether I wanted to be or not.

The conversation among the girls slowly died down, and before I knew it, break-time was over and after 5-more classes school was out for the day. The bell rang, signaling the end of our hour-long respite.

I quickly packed my things into my bag, trying to avoid drawing attention to myself. I didn't want any more conversations or awkward questions, so I decided to leave quickly, hoping to make it out before the girls could catch up with me.

But as I made my way out, I couldn't help but feel a little bit of unease. I didn't mind the attention, but it was starting to get overwhelming. Besides, I didn't want to be known for my looks alone—I had bigger things to focus on.

As I walked, I noticed a small part of me wishing I could just blend in, but that didn't seem to be an option, not here and not now.

I started walking down the mountain slope, trying to keep my pace steady. The path was familiar, but I quickly realized how important it would be to learn the environment around me. After all, if the girls ever did catch up with me or follow me, I couldn't rely on the same route every time. They probably already knew the school better than I did. If I kept taking the same path, I'd end up trapped, with no way to escape.

So, I decided to improvise. I took a left turn, hoping it would lead somewhere interesting. My instincts told me that if I kept moving, kept exploring, I'd eventually get a better sense of the area. I walked down a few steps, glancing at the houses nearby as they faded into the distance. The further I went, the more the mountain's natural beauty surrounded me, as the trees and rocks started to blend with the faint hum of civilization.

I kept walking, thinking about the best way to keep a low profile. Butvi immediately removed this idea as with my personality and goals that wasn't going to ever happen. If I got lost, I'd simply ask for directions.

As I descended deeper into the slope, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was waiting ahead. What, I wasn't sure. But for now, I would focus on getting familiar with the area and making sure I always had a route to escape if needed. The unknown was always around the corner, but that was just part of the fun.
